Im considering a direct add on at VGC.

Anyone been able to buy direct lately?

I don’t want VDH - that’s purely because of the TOT payable at checkout.

I’m considering 25-50 points so i can go once every 2 years or maybe more often but then combine my points at 7 months.

I bought a small contract after our June trip - we just got lucky and bumped into a guide while walking around and he was willing to look repeatedly for us (and I was willing to repeatedly ask 🤣). It took a couple of weeks.

Thankfully they were selling in my UY (June) though he did mention that wasn’t the case across all.

We loved staying at VDH (used a combo of RIV and OTUP - thank you MMB!) but like you had a rough time with ToT. It helped that the week we plan to travel is fewer points at VGC and the difference in cost between direct and resale for small contracts is not huge (+ being able put it all on my cc is a nice bonus).

Good luck!!

Thanks, maybe I should start nagging my guide every few days until she finds something :-)

“and then combine my points at 7 months”

I wouldn’t count on this….

Nothing is never certain but as I’ve written before I’ve been able to piece together hard to get rooms before so why not at VGC. :-)
Because it’s by far the lowest number of inventory rooms available in the whole DVC system and has a legion of spec renters trying to do the same thing….. especially the studios.

There are a total of 23 studios - not many but since I have luck booking value studio I hope I at least sometimes can pull off booking a studio.

Besides without a VGC contract my chances are smaller.

Yes you'll be able to purchase it direct. It might take a few weeks or even months, depending on which use years you'll buy. Points for sale load throughout the day and guides grab them and check with their clients to see if they will buy. If they don't have anyone willing to buy right then, the points show up to other guides again. Your guide needs to be willing to check multiple times per day. If they aren't willing to do that, switch to the guides that will .

Thanks.

Do you suggest to email my guide daily and ask them to check?

I have twice pieced together three consecutive nights in a studio, the last time was 4th of July 2024. Did it through stalking and waitlists.

We are going to DLR again in Decemeber and I'm not even trying this time. Been there done that. The pool situtation is way too wild west. Too easy to just sneak in as a non-guest. When we stayed at Marriott's Newport Coast the week before we were issued wristbands for the pool. Every 30 minutes or so a staff person would walk around checking, if the band was not visible he asked to see it. If you didn't have it because your forgot it you had to leave and get it. DVC needs to implement a similar system at certain resorts, like VGC and VGF.

VGC have implemented wrist bands for some time now. I would think it would be quite difficult to use the pool as a non-guest.

Not sure when you went because we have always been given wristbands.

I think sometimes people mistake luck for skill and then assume it will continue. I’ll go with the odds.

I also think there continues to be an uptick in spec rentals at VGC, especially in low points season, weekend rooms are gone well before 7mo.

Not impossible if you have time to stalk and play slots, but very very unlikely.

Definitely not impossible, but I would not spend $330pp direct on a small contract with the thought that it should work consistently.

Dont know.
I contacted one through chat, he would check if they had any available. After a 2 hour wait he mailed me and said no.

He did however put me on the waitlist.

My experience has been that you need someone who knows how that system works and, more importantly, willing to persist because it's probably somewhat similar to lurking in the reservation system waiting for walkers to drop days.

We have a FL-based guide who sold us direct at WDW twice and has been great overall. But when I told her I'd be open to buying VGC she told me it wasn't available and will keep an eye for it, but it's been 18 months since then...

On the other had, we recently visited DL and did a VDH room model tour onsite. We told that guide we're not into VDH (restrictions) but would be open to buying a small contract at VGC in either of our two use years. In a span of about a week, that particular guide was able to find two separate contracts in two separate use years that matched our needs. The first one was a bit smaller than what we wanted (we took it anyway because it was close enough), and the second one was exactly what we wanted but in our other use year, so we redid the contract. He found the first contract literally 2 days after we spoke, and the second one 5 days into the escrow period. The reason I got the impression that something similar to lurking was involved was because he discouraged us from trying to split the contract into 25-35 point contracts and said he'd have to release it and grab it again, but someone may beat him to it.

One other thing he mentioned was that he was much more likely to find a contract with a use year that already started (i.e., not one that would also give you the 2024 points at this point in the calendar). That timing worked ok for our ownership, but if you're looking for Sep, Oct or Dec use years, those may indeed be unavailable at all until later in the year.
