The 2010 Baltic Thread--Cruise Tips and Planning

The Vasa does look impressive but my daughter said going to see a ship that sunk is bad luck while on a cruise...?? :flower3:

I'm sure everyone will have a great day in Stockholm, whatever they decide to see.

There is an ATM in the baggage claim are as soon as you round the corner. It will be the first one you see as you arrive in London Heathrow. The exchange rate is high. There are other ATM's as you exit the airport.

Also, London Heathrow (http://twitter.com/HeathrowAirport) tweeted this last week...

I haven't used this service, but might be worth looking into.

It seems this currency purchase is only available for those folks using Pounds to buy other currencies. I couldn't see on the list how to purchase Pounds with dollars...

I agree. We watched Samantha Brown tour the Vasa musuem. This huge ship set sail and sank on her maiden voyage...right after a big celebration send off. Evidently the design was flawed...

We saw that the same show - the ship looks amazing (even though they really messed up the design) we can't wait to see it

Hi Joanne #2,

I see that you are going to the Baltic, too! Not sure if you remember us from the Eastern Caribbean last year. How are Aaron and the girls? We are on the July 18 Baltic. Please post and let us know how cruise was. I am sure it will be fantastic!!!

I saw a while back there some folks staying at the Royal Garden Hotel prior to the Baltic Cruises... I am as well... I was curious if anyone else remembered when we made reservations that DVC said that Breakfast was included each morning...

Has anyone here pre-purchased tickets for the London Eye? If so, which ticket did you buy? I'm looking at options for our group (4 adults), but I'm not sure which ticket we should go with. Thanks in advance!!!!

A bunch of us on the July 18th Baltic cruise are going through Porters Restaurant. We get dinner, a river cruise and a set time for the London Eye.

Yep, Caro's correct. It will be like a mini-Dis meet!!!

Porter's comes highly recommended and they were very accomodating on the phone and through email.

the national bus company offers 'fun' fares from victoria station to dover central for 3 British pounds...really!!!!!!!!! it is 2.5 hours long, limited seats so try it fast. The return is more money, about 25 pounds but takes 5 hours...we need advice on how to make it to gatwick or stansted airports on the cheap and not spend 5 hours to get there. any ideas?

We are also staying at the Royal Garden, arriving next Monday. When I made the ressie through DVC I was told breakfast was included but I'm not sure if it's Continental or a full English breakfast.

Anyone there next week with us?

I looked on the london eye site. it doesn't seem that you are saving enough to make it worthwhile to purchase in advance...unless you are doubling your cost by buying th tix which allow your entrance with up to a max of a 15 minute wait time.

You are saving the wait time to stand in line to buy the ticket, which can be quite long. If you purchase your ticket along with a meal package that is a money saver. We did that 2 years ago and it was well worth buying the ticket and dinner ahead of time.

which dinner package are you referring to? glad to hear that it worked for you. please share. we are two seniors, just over the age limit. do you think that saves us any?

I'm trying to figure this out too... We're leaning toward getting flexi tickets so we can adjust plans based on the weather... Is there any benefit to the flexi standard ticket, or do you recommend the fast track? If you get a regular ticket, do you still have to wait in a line? How much of a time saver is fast track vs. regular ticket?

I'm not on a Baltic cruise, but I'll be in London in a few weeks. I booked the standard flight on the London Eye for our last night at 9 p.m. The confirmation says:

All standard flight guests wishing to see the new 4D Experience would need to join the 4D entrance queue with their tickets 45 minutes prior to their booked flight time.

We did the standard ticket last time and had to wait about 25-30 minutes in line, even with our timed ticket that was bought ahead of time. We were only there 1 day so he didn't have much of a choice on what day to go or worry about the weather.

Is anyone that booked with Anastasia going to the ballet? And if so, when did they squeeze that in?

Knowing that you already did the London Eye, would you say it is a worthwhile part of visiting London?

Did you combine it with one of the dinner packages? If so, which one? Do you recommend it?
