Welcome back, Teena- I hope you and your family were spoiled last week! You deserve to be treated as well as you treat all of the Beach Club guests you take care of throughout the year. What a great way to celebrate Jeanne's great accomplishments!

As you can see in my ticker- my boys are in a community theater production of Peter Pan- not the Disney version, though- Nate is a lost boy and Ben is the crocodile. Peter Pan's Flight, already a favorite ride for my family, will take on new heights for us in July.

We look forward to seeing you this summer, if you are not away.

Dee

Thanks Dee. Didn't get spoiled but just being on the ship with the whole family was good enough. I love that ship! And please tell the boys I'm so proud of them!!! Looking forward to seeing you again this summer!

Hi Teena ~

Glad to hear that you had another wonderful cruise! Congratulations to your daughter - what a wonderful accomplishment and a great way to celebrate :cool1:
See you in a couple of weeks :) We're on the "other side" this time (BWI) since no CM rates at the BC/YC for our days, but I'll stop by to say Hi!

Just peeking in to see what's going on in this thread.... stayed at BC in April 2009 and loved it.... booked for Poly in October 2010 but seriously considering coming back to Beach Club.... One of my goals is to one day have stayed in each Disney resort so I hate to repeat :rotfl: but I think I found my favorite in BC!

I'm curious about what goes on at the BC for Halloween time... anything special? Cool decorations? I'm trying to be convinced to change my ressie from Poly to BC I guess :lmao:. We are planning on a 6 night stay, and my son suggested we stay 3 nights in each resort, which sounds great in theory, but to me it seems like it will be such a pain to pack back up to move rooms halfway through the trip.

Teena, do you know if Josie is still working at the front desk at the Yacht Club? We plan to be there in May and I'm looking forward to seeing her. Also, Raouf, with activities.

Thanks!!

BC does not put up any Halloween decorations. The gift shop has some Halloween themed items but nothing gets decorated around the hotel--atleast they didn't last Halloween.

On the boardwalk there is kids activities on Halloween evening.

If I'm doing the math right, that means you are arriving in July?? If so and it's on a Monday, I should be there waiting to greet you (unless I decide to jump on that cruise I was just talking about on the Wonder that has two stops at Castaway Cay).

We arrive on mon 28th june but you may have finished work for the day by the time we get there. We're coming on magical express and will be the very hungry, pale and pasty family just about able to stay awake long enough to unpack and eat before falling fast asleep only to awaken in the wee small hours of the morning:rotfl:
We normally wear a look of complete and utter happiness at being back in the world's most magical place:)

I see that you seem like the expert. We are just joining the thread - we're staying at BCV in about 1 1/2 weeks and would like to know if the rooms have been refurbished lately. I've read a couple reviews from early last year that say the rooms are in need of updating. Any info is appreciated.

Thanks

Hi Teena,
We're making our first trip to the Beach Club soon  It's where I've always wanted to stay!! Can't believe the "dream" is going to be a reality in just a few weeks! So, needless to say, I've been lurking on this thread for quite a while, reading all the great info that you, and everybody else, have provided. After quoting you several thousand times, my daughter wants to know who this Teena person is :goodvibes
I told her we'd be able to meet you soon, but I notice you are going to help out your daughter soon after we arrive. I was wondering if you'll be at work at all the beginning of our trip. We arrive on 4/17.
Hope we get to meet you!

Yep, saw both of them recently.

Can't remember the exact dates but it was about a year ago they had a soft rehab meaning new bedspreads, drapes, rugs, some furniture, etc.

Hope we get to meet you!

I'll be there on the 18th and 19th (Sunday and Monday). They are trying out different hours for my position in the lobby so I can't tell you for sure the hours I'll be there. Normally I worked either 7:30 to 4:00 or 8:30 to 5:00. The last two days I worked 9:30 to 6:00 and I have a feeling that might be what they go with permanently. I'm looking forward to meeting you also. I love my disboard friends!!

Hi everyone-

I've been lurking on this post for months and most of my questions have been asked and answered by other members. My family and I will be traveling to the Yacht club next month. For the first part of the week, it will be myself, my 3 children and my Mom. My husband and my sister will be joining us for the end of the trip. I'm a planner, love to plan and find that the planning is almost as fun as the trip itself.

This trip is a bit difficult to plan since we find ourselves with a unique issue. My sister has been recently diagnosed with solar urticaria. Basically, her body can't handle being in the sun. I know people have varying degrees of sun allergies, but trust me, she only has to be in the sun for 5-10 minutes and her skin turns bright red and she develops painful hives. We've been experimenting with different sun screens, even expensive ones from Europe, without great results. We've purchased clothing with sunscreen, and some of that has worked, but it must be long sleeve and heavy.

I'm sure some of you think, "why bother", but my sister has no kids and is a big part of our lives. This diagnosis is a bummer, but we're trying so hard to come up with creative ways to allow her to be with us and still have a good time. Right now our "plan of attack" is for her to wear the long sleeve jackets, long pants etc. and for us to plan on doing inside shows, rides, etc for the couple days when she's with us. But, it would be nice if we could find some shade at the resort, so she doesn't have to be covered head to toe in the heat of Florida in late April for the entire time.

So, I was hoping some people here would have some suggestions for some shady spots at the resort where she can sit. .:cloud9:

Thanks for your time!

Maureen

I don't know about shady places in the resort, but I had a couple of thoughts. #1-Get her one of those huge golf umbrellas at the American pavilion in Epcot. For $40, she can make her own shade and take it with her. #2-Get her a GAC that would allow her to wait in shady places in line for rides. Maybe that could get her in the handicap or exit entrances and not have to wait in the sun. Check out the disabilities section of DIS for more suggestions.

I have to suggest this company: http://www.sunprecautions.com/
Their clothing is great. I have some of their sport shirts which IMO are cooler then a t-shirt because the sun is not on you and the venting allows total air flow. I have a very hard time in the sun and this clothing line make a big difference.

Thanks for the advice about the different entrances, I will look into that for sure. Could I ask, what is a GAC????

And thanks to lucyem for the clothing suggestion. We have tried Solumbra products. We got an spf 50 shirt, unfortunately it was white, and she had the same problem. We're not just dealing with the UVA/UVB rays, it's the light itself that is problematic. So, only dark clothing it seems will work, and regardless if has spf protection, it can't be sheer in any way. Yesterday she bought long sleeve "heat gear" shirts from under armour. Apparently they're supposed to "draw sweat away from your skin to keep you cool and dry". She's going to give that a try under one of her lightweight coats this weekend.

I've been looking at the maps and think we should be able to minimize her time in the sun at the parks. I was just hoping that when we wanted some down time at the resort, there might be a spot we can all go where she would be in the shade (instead of being inside). I'm glad we're staying where we are, because there's so much available for us to do at night!

At the YC there is a wrap around porch (shaded) with rocking chairs. That should help at the resort.

Momacma, I have never used one. It is short for guest assistance card. You really need to check out disboards.com/forumdisplay.php?f=20 and read their FAQs and ask questions about the GAC there. The people over there are very nice and helpful. Not that we are not helpful and nice.

Thanks, I'll do that. I'm sure there are people who are definitely more in need of assistance than we are, but I'm just trying to be as prepared as possible. We're really hoping for the best, but if it's too difficult for her to spend time in the sun, being able to stand in a shady line for a ride or two may make a big difference. I appreciate you pointing me in the right direction!

:)
