The 2009 DCI, WGI, BOA thread

Yes indeed Crown beat Cavies, not only that but Bluestars beat Boston!

Crown's show is amazing! I got a little of it on video, will try to get some more tonight! If they whoop the Cavies here tonight in Chicago there may be a riot!!

Crown's show is "The grass is greener on the other side". There is a LOT of green on the field! The uniforms, plumes, most of the flags. The theme of the show really doesn't come through till the very end, but the season is early. I will tell you when they wrap up the show with the same music that they start the show with it is amazing!

Bluestars drag a ton of crap on the field for their show "The factory". Basically its a show about working in a factory before and during WW2. Odd, but very good! The must drag 25 6 foot tables with sewing machines on the field :confused3 and the usual amps and stuff. Takes them forever to set up!

The most dissapointing of the evening was Phantom. Don't get me wrong, if this were any other year I would probably be ga-ga over them. But after last year I just expected so much more. The red violin theme is nice, and its a great show for the Regiment, but it just doesn't hold a candle to last year.

The weather is nice up here, everyone is complaining about the heat and humidity! :rotfl2:

I have internet at this hotel tonight, so I will try to recap after the show....

Gah, it would be amazing to see Crown take it all this year. Found out yesterday my college graduation was moved up a week and I'm considering going to finals....Hmmmmmm....

Bluestars = BOA. Meh. Loved their 2008 show though and hope they do well with their 2009 show. I still think it's weird to see them in world class. When I was with Revo in 2003, Bluestars were our main competitors.

I haven't seen Phantom's show yet (I'll have to catch it on the Fan Network soon), but I too think they're going to have trouble topping Spartacus.

The more I watch SCV's show on the Fan Network, the more I'm totally loving it! The company front at the end is pure heaven...old-school Vanguard. :worship:

Okay........I'm going to get really crude here, so prepare yourself.

Cavaliers: I loved the show the first time I saw it......back in 2002 when the Plymouth Canton Educational Park Marching Band did it! Same music. Same "push/pull gags" with the ropes. I think Michael Gaines is wonderful, but the design team is really starting to rely way too much on things they've accomplished in the past to carry their most recent shows. Honestly, for the last 4 or 5 years I've watched Cavies it's felt like I've been watching PCEPMB. Except PCEPMB has done everything several years before Cavies. I guess what I'm trying to say is, The Cavies are no longer cutting edge in this activity. Sorry. Having said that, I hope they start pushing the creative envelope again really soon.

Holy Name Cadets: The first time I saw the show last week I was somewhat pleased. To me it just felt like a WSS medley with no real purpose, although there were a couple moments of real brilliance. And THEN....I saw what they had changed over the past couple days (and it's been a lot) and it blew my mind. How they were able to change as much as they did in only a few days is beyond me, but it improved the show enormously. (I love the condensing company front at the end, almost as if to say, "We're going to bring back our 1990 closer.....but we're also going to bring something new to the table.....so sit back or your face may melt off!" :cool2:) I wish them the best. They have the potential for another gold, but we'll just have to wait and see. April is once again on tour with the guard, so they should start going insane in about a week or so. (Love ya, April. Mean it. :lmao:)

Carolina Crown: What can I say? How cool would it be to see them place in the top 3? The crowd in Indy would go nuts. If they get everything pulled together I think their show will be absolutely amazing. They still have a long way to go, but I can definitely see them doing it. I must admit.....I like the green plumes. :rolleyes1

Blue Devils: ...............erm...........um..........urrrrm.......
Sorry, guys. I'm not seeing it yet. The chairs make it feel like one of your early 90's shows gone wrong. Looks like they're in need of some tender east coast love. :lmao:

Okay, I'm done being a jerk.

PCEPMB? My kids used to march in competition against them here in SE MI. They were something to see and there wasn't another band in their flight that could beat them. I saw that show in 2002, also!

I am still disappointed that the weather was horrible last week in Rockford, but I have to say the Cavies music didn't do much for me. I'll decide after I see it "on the field" Next stop Orlando, then 2 nights in Murfressboro, then Toleldo followed by 5 days in Indy.

Ohhhh yeah. I grew up in Michigan, and while I was marching there were only 3 times I saw them get beaten in Michigan.
-One of those times we beat them at a Trenton competition! (WOOHOO!)
-My freshman year they took 2nd at States, but won BOA Grand Nationals. :confused3
-My junior year they took 3rd at States, but I think it had to do with a really severe 2 or 3-point penalty they acquired from being on the field too long.

Show was rained out tonight! So for $25 I got to see Racine Scouts! :sad2:

sorry. if it makes you feel any better i just watched vanguard get cheated out of a win by a VERY dirty bd show...and i'm not just saying that because i'm a vanguard fan. bd was really dirty.

side note. anybody remember when blue devils used to march and play music at the same time? that used to be fun.

I'm dyin and u guys are making me wanna get the fan network so I can watch these shows. Afterall, I have a 42in plasma and 5.1 surround:cool1: drum corps party anyone???

I cant wait to see everyone in Orlando and then again in Atlanta. It's gonna be a good year!

Go Blue Stars!(I marched 04)

Leaving Chicago for Madison. The weather is beautiful! God I miss the Midwestern summers! Hopefully no rain tonight! :thumbsup2

I'm sorry, Mike. I was wondering why there were no scores for that show.

There's a video of Crown's show on YouTube that I watched and I'm really excited to see where this show goes. (I had to watch it from the end zone last week, which really wasn't a great place to watch from.) This show has a level of creativity that hasn't really been seen in DCI in the last decade, and its this kind of creativity that I'm wishing the rest of the top 12 corps would introduce into their programs. It reminded me of the 80s and early 90s when corps would try something different every year in order to tell a musical story, as opposed to recycling the same drill, aesthetics and musical styles like a lot of corps tend to do now. If I had Crown's director in front of me I'd grab him by the shoulders and tell him, "Don't you even think about worrying what the other corps are doing. Keep doing what you feel is right and what is important to you." Hopefully they'll be rolling rock that starts something in the world of DCI.

Can you tell I'm liking their show this year? :yay: :woohoo:

Rome NY June 30th

1 Carolina Crown 83.000
2 Holy Name Cadets 81.700

Well this could get interisting! Having seen everyone except Bluecoats and the California corps, I think Crown may have a chance at the title.

But it is only July 1st!

I would post a TR but I am dead tired and have to work tomorrow...

I will say I do miss the midwest in the summer!

Say what you want about Hoppy, he is getting the hype out there!

GO!!! Carolina :banana::yay::cheer2:

So I just got off the phone with a friend....seems it may be time for a certain judge to retire...

Gary Czapinski had Pioneer ahead of both the Colts and Scouts in GE Visual. :lmao:

Now that is funny!

Go Pioneer? :confused3

So not sure if anyone has noticed, but I was just watching Crown's Normal, Il performance on the Fan Network and noticed someone just walk off the field about a 3:41. Weird. Never seen that before.

May have been someone who just joined tour and only knew half the show.

I doubt there is a penalty for that anymore. Are there penalties for anything any more? :confused3

85.100

Crown still has the momentum!

Can't wait to see them live at the Orlando show.

I can't wait for the Orlando show either. I am all set and ready to go except my mom is in the hospital with heart related issues. I am hoping they all get resolved by the time I am supposed to leave on the 10th!

pinnie

Oh Pinnie, sorry to hear about that, hope all goes well!

So anyone up for an after show meet?

Hmmm That neighborhood......trying to think of a place where we would be "comfortable".
