The $2,088.47 Disney Dining Experience! Update 9/29 - Everything Pop

You are making me so hungry! What great discriptions of the food.
My DS loves banana splits. I will have to tell him about yours.
We have never gone to the plaza but we plan on it next summer!

It was really, really good. The pineapple was so good. Not fresh off the core, but very good. The strawberries and banana were fresh off the tree/plant. Enjoy!

Great reviews.

Thank you...

and thanks to all the other replies, I didn't ignore you, just get overzealous and forget to respond some times....

I am really glad everyone is along for the ride! Diane.

Great reviews! I am looking forward to our meals at LeCellier and the Plaza.

We had the same experience at Ohana's our last trip in 2007, therefore this trip we won't be eating there.

Looking forward to your remaining reviews!

Oh my gosh, I love your reviews! The only thing is I have been second guessing our 'Ohana ADR. Now I'm seriously doubting it. I've been reading too many so-so reviews, I think I'll try for something else...maybe Mama Melrose!

Can't wait for your next review!

This has been a fabulous way to spend the last hour! I really should be asleep since I need to wake up at 4:00a.m. to make my ADR's. But you hooked me! Loved your reviews and quote's of the day:lmao: This year we are trying Mama Melrose and The Plaza for the first time. Thank you for such a great thread:thumbsup2

We really enjoyed both of these restaurants. Have a great time!

I really don't want anyone to second guess a restaurant because of me. Everyone has different tastes. I would definetely decide the flavors that you enjoy and how much the "experience" along with the food. Sometimes you really have to think about it... While we were at Ohana even though we didn't really eat, DD and DH got to do a dance. When I looked back at the pictures you could see DH was looking at our daughter and a little girl around 5 next to them. I am sure a lot of memories were flooding through his mind, including the fact he could be dancing at DD's wedding soon. Also, they received a lei for dancing. DH gave DS his. It was laced with a very pretty perfume. DS spent the rest of the night sniffing that thing. I am sure people thought he was a little "cuckoo". But being 14 and growing up, this was a smell he was really happy about. Don't get me wrong, to me the food sucked, but if we hadn't gone I wouldn't have those memories... It's a trade-off sometimes.

Sorry for hooking you, and the bad part is I have been extremely insomniac lately so more night time review are probably on the horizon:eek:.

Our non-TS night to balance the 2 credit TS at Hoop-De-Doo. We usually go to the Rainforest Cafe (I earn gift cards throughout the year for this one and my OOP is usually very minimal). I called the restaurant directly even before my 90th. day and had no problem getting a reservation. We chose 5:30pm as we were spending the whole day at DTD.

When we walked up I noticed two things, a long line and that everything was "BIG". The line didn't scare me because we had reservations and I happended to catch and employee who took our information and checked us in. The majority of the people in the line "DID NOT" have reservations but were not being turned away. Don't get me wrong, I am sure those little one's who were definetely ready to eat "now" waited at least an hour for their table. Moral of the story. Even if it is an hour or two before you want to eat, program the Landry Restaurant in your phone, and use the phone ahead option... Much better than those crying "Moms and Dads" who really needed food and drink.

When we walked in all of us were in awe, when I say big, I mean big. So big that even though this is a dining review, my pics will be what surrounded us...

See bigger than life. But really cool. I enjoyed the surroundings much more than the Rainforest cafe. We had a really great waitress. Either she was very bored or we were her last table. She was a chatty Cathy if I ever saw one. She recommended her favorites, talked in detail about a lot of the different items, and was just plain enjoyable. And a little tidbit from our waitress... "The Mesozoic Mahi Mahi and Age of Salmon dishes should not be on your want list - the cooks just can't seem to get it right and more goes back than is ever eaten (under her breath - undercooked everytime). So after a 15 minute conversation we decide on our drinks and an appetizer. DH had a coke, DS - root beer, Unsweetened tea w/lemon for me....But.... suspense, yes here it goes.... Kiddie Cocktail for DD! Yeah:woohoo: we broke the mold. Aren't you all excited. I was and the waitress was hysterical and even brought out two for DD to celebrate it.

We all were having a very hard time deciding on what to order. The oversized menu along with your oversized surroundings tend to stiffle your creative thinking process. So you may want to pick something before you go and stick with it..

DH, DS, and I could not for the life of us decide what we wanted. So we ordered this:

Supersaurus Sampler - For an appetite as big as T-REX! Pepper jack queso with tortilla chips, Brachiosaurus Bruschetta, T-Rexadillas and Onion Rings and added the ribs for DS to eat for dinner and he would share with the rest of us.

DD ordered the chicken pot pie and DH and I ordered the sliders to share. (don't go looking for them on the menus around here, cause they are not there)

First came our sampler. It was three tiers of snacks and the bottom tier was very large. I was actually worried about it tipping and took the plates off and sent the holder back with the waitress. DD and DS immediately took the queso and chips. Ever since Chi Chi's and Don Pablos closed they have been at a loss for good queso. This was up to the challenge. DD let DS eat the majority though since he was sharing entrees. The -Rexadillas were also very good and huge (4 of them on the plate, each the size of a large slice of pizza) The chicken was moist and it had a lot of different veggies and spices inside. Even the closed minded kids enjoyed them. I passed on the onion rings because no one would try the bruschetta with me. It was wonderful. The flavors melded together perfect and the basalmic vinegar was sweet as it should be. Only problem was a very little corner of each one was a little soggy. I am talking a very small area and I just tore that part off. Very, very good though. The onion rings were huge and didn't fall apart while eating. Not greasy at all. We had a few dips including ranch for them. Only one survived. (See pic above:rolleyes1). They also brought DS's ribs out at this time. He enjoyed them, but said they were not the best he has had nor the worst. There was a lot of meat on them and he even gave DH one to try. Our entrees came out. There were 3 sliders on the plate. I took all the onions and stuff off one and gave it to DS. DH and I had the works on ours. Once again, good, not earth-shaking (haha get the reference to the beginning of time:idea:).

So last, but not least out came DD's pot-pie. It was the size of a flying saucer. Huge. And very golden brown on top. Yes, lets start with the top, layers and layers of light, fluffy, perfectly cooked puff pastry. Enough to feed the whole table. And in hind site, we should have just asked for 3 extra plates. The insides were hot and fresh. There were great big chunks of rotisserie chicken, carrots, onions, mushrooms, and I think celery. The sauce was wonderful. Not too thick and definetely not flavored with fake chicken seasoning. It was really good. But between the 4 of us, we only tackled a half of it.

So the waitress returns and asks about dessert. DS wanted back to Disney Quest and his eyes were pleading, NO, NO, NO. And in reality we were all full, but I did order a cup of coffee to drink while the kids walked around and visited the gift shop. The waitress brought my coffee out in what she called the "good cup". It was a T-Rex coffee mug, really cool. She told me how if I didn't finish my coffee, the mug wouldn't be missed if I took it with me. So I did. and I may be going to HE double hockey sticks, but trust me the tip made up for the $5.00 mug....

Would we go back yes, but probably to try the desserts.

Quote of the meal: Me to DH - "Should I take it, do you think anyone will notice?" DH to me - "Yes, I think you should take it, but wait 5 minutes and meet me and the kids out front!"

Great reviews.

I am planning to order the sampler at T-Rex for my party of 4 adults and then a couple more appetizers (we're having lunch there). I'm happy to see a review of it.

Now of course, I'm thinking pot pie.......

The sampler is definetely a keeper, but if I had to do it over, we would order the pot-pie and share and not do more appetizers. What's the worse thing that could happen - you would have room for dessert!:thumbsup2

So I am sitting on the couch, staring at the screen. I am ready to do my Crystal Palace review, but deep down inside, I realize that brings my trip to an end. Yes, I know CS is looming, and there are 40 snacks to re-live in my mind. But TS defined our family vacation. This was MY vacation. The family knew it. My babies were gone. I knew it a few years ago, but now it is etched in school grades and "teens" next to the number of years they have been with me. It was the best time I have ever had. TS was our dinners together, just like at home (even if it was a breakfast while at Disney). The meal that bonds us together. Even if it is a bowl of cereal, we eat dinner together. It has been a wonderful time for us. My DD is a senior this year and getting her home and to the table is getting harder and harder. We have to go look at colleges in the next few weekends. DH and DS want to stay home. Less meals together already. So for those reading and planning, whether it be CS or TS, or even pizza on the bed, enjoy your family meals on vacation. I promise, even if your kids fuss or fart, it will be worth every minute!

Thanks for these reviews, Tinker'n'Fun. It's really nice to hear someone who clearly is a "foodie" who has nice things to say about Disney restaurants.

A lot of reviews I've read (especially since the DDP came out) use terms like "inedible" or "disgusting" to describe meals that I really enjoy (like the HDDR or Boma).

I often wonder where these people are eating (or, what they must be paying) if Disney restaurants can only manage to produce "inedible" food. :sad2:

I just love your review! We're headed to WDW at the end of Oct. for the first time. Thank you for the pics of T-Rex, I was disappointed I didn't make an ADR there, it sounds great! My daughter is timid and would have spent the entire time in my lap! We took her to Rainforest Cafe in Dallas and she was scared! I notice your location, I too hail from the Land of the Crabapple, untill my prince charming whisked me away to Louisiana, land of the crawfish!:rotfl2:

The last of our TS meals and the closest we will ever come to arope drop at Disney. Somewhere in the back of my mind, I decided our last full day in Disney should be just that "a full day". I made an 8:10am ADR at Crystal Palace. I even had visions of seeing rope drop. The kids were even excited about being in the Magic Kingdom before it opened. All was well in our world.....

We arrived at 7:50 and were let in at 8:00am... It was a surreal feeling walking down Main Street without the masses. It was quiet. Very, very quiet. We window shopped and had our pictures taken, then moseyed over to the Crystal Palace. In all our trips, I have never seen this restaurant. Funny how while trying to make everything perfect, you miss the little things sometime. Well Crystal Palace is not little, but I think you get what I am saying.

We were called almost immediately and sat pretty much in the middle near the Topiaries and the buffet. Our waiter was okay, not good, definetely not great, but gratefully, not bad. He just didn't seem to be with us. He was in his world. Or as a certain bear may say, “If the person you are talking to doesn't appear to be listening, be patient. It may simply be that he has a small piece of fluff in his ear.” We didn't care. He brought our drinks (OJ, apple juice, chocolate milk, and coffee). We were on our own. The buffet was waiting. And it was hardly even touched. Definetely a plus.....

There was everything, yes everything. So I will go with the highlights, Chocolate chip Mickey pancakes. I am jealous. The chef did these free-hand. Delicious, hot and fresh. The omelets - Tooo Dieeee Forrrrr!!!! Puffed french toast - Okay, I have to get serious here. Delicious, but come on - this is not french toast, it is fried dough, fasnachts (if you are German/Polish/Pennsylvanian), or for the rest of you, sugar/cinnamon doughnuts. I ate and ate these, throughout the whole meal. I spied the container and everytime hot fresh ones came out I ran!! (Sorry if I knocked you over). And add to that regular eggs, bacon, sausage, potatoes three different ways, mickey waffles, doughnuts, muffins, and yogurt, and fruit, and I could keep going on but you get the idea.... I love Winnie the Pooh. But today, the Pooh waited for me. I ate first, did pictures later. Oh what a wonderful day in the woods it was!!

We had our meet and greet with the wonderful characters of 100 acre woods and then with a hop in our step walked out the door... and in the words of my favorite character of all time...

Eeyore - "He turned around angrily on the others and said "Everybody crowds round so in this Forest. There's no Space. I never saw a more Spreading lot of animals in my life, and in all the wrong places."

We missed the opening ceremony, the rush had begun!

My quote of the meal, goes to Eeyore above. I was taking in my family and the food, not a word was spoken during some of the meal. It didn't need to be. We all understood, we all understand. Enjoy your meals at the Crystal Palace, it is a wonderful place!

I too have experienced the land of the crawfish... Sucking heads and all! On the bright side, you are closer to Disney! That's what a Prince does, gets you closest to the castle!

I have often wondered also. Thanks for reading along. Now I just need to get rid of some of the "foodie" I brought home on my booty, so I can plan my next trip:rotfl2:.

Great review , entertaining and informative.
loved the quote about pirate costumes.

I have enjoyed reading your reviews. We also went to TRex and I ordered the chicken pot pie. It was just as you described very yummy. I will definately order it again.

I love what you said about enjoying your family during TS meals but I am found it very difficult on our last WDW visit as my children are 3 and 10 months but I am sure that time will come soon enough.:goodvibes
