Ok so has anyone seen the 1968 Movie version of Romeo and Juliet? If you have I have a question for you...

Holy moly.. how old was the girl who played Juliet??? I have a question about the balcony scene....

yeah i've seen it.

she was SEVENTEEN when she made it :scared1:
(you see her b00bs!@!!!)

I saw it a while ago though...so I probably wont remember it enough to answer your question.

My question was this...

What in the world was the director thinking??? It was like oh bye Romeo (makes out) oh Bye Juliet (makes out) bye Romeo (makes out some more)

Also couldn't they have covered her up a little more??? I mean I highly doubt that she was prancing around her mansion with her ****s falling out like that...

agreeeeeed. :O

I was shocked when I watched it.
I thought they were more conservative back then!!!!
I like the Leeeeo  & Claire Danes version better. :goodvibes

I just read that HE was 17, SHE was 15!:scared1:

I haven't even seen it, I was just looking at pics and posters online right now...

I think in the 1968 version (according to my english teacher) she was 15 and he was ALMOST 18...

In the balcony scene he kept jumping on the tree like a monkey. I kept hoping it would break... LOL...

LOLLLL!!!
hahah

i checked IMDB and she was born in 1951 and it was made in 1968.
So i calculated 17.
BUt it probably came OUT in 1968, they probably filmed before then :O

This is what I got:

The movie starred Leonard Whiting( a British actor, who played Romeo) and Olivia Hussey (juliet). They were young when they filmed the Classic, 17 and 15 years, respectably. Romeo and Juliet (1968) , from Italy/U.K., was directed by Franco Zeffirelli. Zeffirelli creates a stunning adaptation with more action, humor and sexiness than has ever been seen in the tale. The playing time is 152 minutes long. This movie was one of the more realistic interpretations of William Shakespeare's Tragedy. This adaptation was the first to show Romeo and Juliet nude.

The first one with teenagers is also the first one nude:confused:

wel that is just according to our crack pot teacher... LOL... no seriously...????

Anyway... I think..in my opinion... the movie made them both a lot more hands on than they were... According to the play they did not get too friscy until the night before Romeo left to Mantua...

But yeah.. my teacher likes all the underlying sexual stuff Shakespeare wrote...she is completly crazy....

holy moly it has nudity in it??? I have only watched half of it so far.. (we are watching it in class) wow did not no that...

Shakespeare was a gross dude. If you know what the people are talking about, then you know a lot of it is perverted...

Did you know that the actualy plays way back when were with all men, so that is why Shakespeare never wrote about Romeo and Juliets love scene....

yeah women weren't allowed on stage back then.
makes sense that he never really wrote any "love scenes".

film directors just like to put em in there between text :P

yep... which is stupid because then it is not in truth with the film...

Like the whole giant b00bs thing... aw well....

In the original play, Juliet was 13, turning 14. Romeo's age was never revealed. Its usually accepted by historians that he is somewhere around 15-16-17.

If you've ever been to an opera, the actresses, particularly, are older. A 30 year old woman could be Juliet. A 55 year old woman could be Juliet.

Talking about the clothing she wore, Welcome to the Elizabethan age. :confused3 Those clothes are relatively close to what nobles wore. Yes, her chest was hanging out everywhere. That was the style. Yes, she pranced around her mansion like that. :confused3

It wasn't perverted. It was just a different time. Yes, Juliet's nurse talks about nursing her. She talks about losing her maidenhead (virginity) at 12 years old. That was the norm back then. Yes, Sampson makes a few crude jokes about raping women of the Montagues. You have to remember, these plays were written to be enjoyed by ALL walks of life. Including the uneducated peasants. He had to keep their attention somehow. They wouldn't catch the puns such as when Romeo asks for a torch when he's talking about Rosaline (the torch connection is the phrase "carrying a torch for her" and then actually needing fire to see.) half the people in the Globe wouldn't understand that.

Okay well I thought that a young girl of 13 would not be prancing around with her chest showing like that. My english teacher said Romeo was 18.

Yes I have been to an opera. What does that have to do with anything?:confused3

I know he had to put gross humor in for the poor people. I just think that it is perverted.

I was talking about the age of the actress, with the opera comment.

Some girls were married with children by the age of 13. thats just the time period.

"teens" are a creation of the last century. It came with not needing your children working to bring in money. Therefor they could continue their education. 200 years ago, you didn't go to school until you were 18. You went to school until you needed to go to work. That was the same when these works were written. She was an adult in the views of most of the public at that age.

That dress wasn't actually meant to be provocative, it was just the style of the times.

At 14 was the time that most girls got married. If they weren't married they would go to the convent. The parents would arrange the marriage. Marriages were not made for love back then they were made for appearance.

I know that is was not meant to be provacitive, I just thought that they should have covered her up more.

actually. most girls were considered adults and of legal age to be married once they started to have their periods.

about the movie, i liked it. the music was my favorite part xD. the one with leo was alright, but whatever. im a little tired of romeo and juliet anyway.
