Just wondered how this area is looking now?

I know that a lot of places shut down when the recession hit.

Have shops etc reopened now? Has it become a bit safer?

I haven't been to Orlando for 3 years so just trying to get an insight as to what to expect when I visit.

It was fine when we went last September!
Never found it unsafe to be honest and have been staying in that area for the last 14 yrs.
didnt notice loads of shop shut at all, new shops have opened new eateries etc:)

We have usually stayed on 192 and pretty much always feel safe. Only time we didn't was when we went up 192 looking for a particular restaurant that had closed and that was when we realised we had got upto the junction with Orange Blossom Trail .....felt a little uncomfortable then :scared1:

Stayed on Hwy192 on and off since our 1st visit in 1993, found it as safe as anywhere else we have stayed.
Its a very long road from Hwy27 right thru to Melbourne on the East coast is there any particular area you mean?
There is no-where near enough trade for every shop and restaurant to be busy enough to keep going so they come and go.
They have spent a lot of money on pavements, mile markers etc over the past few years.

I was shocked at how run down it was at the end furthest from disney when we went Oct 10.

We drove that way - can't remember where we were going. There was a man coming up to cars at the traffic lights begging, it was at the junction near that brightly coloured town homes complex if anyone knows where I mean. They were all derelict and broken into. DH stopped in the parking lot of a boarded up shop and reset the sat nav and we got out of there.

Think other end is still ok. Not a kissimmee fan though, rarely go there.

I remember seeing those funny multi coloured homes. It's been 3 years though and they looked immaculate when I was there. Can't believe they are derelict now! MAybe they were foreclosures:confused:
