Has anyone seen this or tried it?
I read about it, so I got the book from the library yesterday. It seems doable, and a good way to jump start weight loss.

I need to lose a few pounds before bathing suit season is in full swing.
I think I am going to try this.

Let me know how its going. I just bought the book and I am going to try it.

I have been doing a modified version of it. I like the idea of eating carbs early because I can eat fruit and yogurt which I always felt was missing from my original diet. I've been at it for a few weeks now and it's not too hard except that I have trouble drinking 8 glasses of water a day.

I've also missed getting the exercise done because of the often bad weather here lately. I need some kind of indoor exercise.

How is it working? are you happy with your weight loss?

I feel pretty good about it but I don't weigh myself. I go by how my clothes fit and I can tell the difference. Of course, the author recommends weighing yourself regularly so I might have to buy a scale. Still I noticed this morning that my pj pants keep trying to fall down. :)

Time will tell as to how much of that might be water weight. Two weeks isn't very long so I don't expect much yet.

I have the book and have read most of it but not sure is it would be possible for me to do. I would be eating 2 eggs in the morning, yogurt and fruit for lunch and then a plain ckn breast with some veggies at supper. Since that is all I would be eating for quite a long time I'm not sure if it would work. I know that after a week or two this diet would get really old. I can't eat fish or a lot of raw salads because of problems and allergies.

Can you eat other veggies? If you can I like to mix it up by stir frying the chicken breast with some veggies. I also like to make the chicken fajita style and then eat peppers and onions with that.

I am about sick of the limited evening choices too. But what's nice is that after 17 days you shift into a much more varied diet for a while. I think of it as a 2 and a half week death march until you get relief for 2 and a half weeks.

Plus I find that eating two yogurts and fruit is real filling. I often end up eating eggs at night.

I hadn't even heard of this before now. blah you have to eat the same thing for two weeks? or do you just get a short list of what is allowed?

I am currently doing the "spark people" thing. www.sparkpeople.com it has a nutrition tracker and it gives me calories goals to reach each day and I can eat anything I want as long as I stay within my goals for calories, fat, carbs and protien. It's very easy and so far I've lost almost 40 lbs....

So for the PP who thought that diet might not work for them with the choices give (I don't like fruit or yogurt so it wouldn't be a good one for me either) you may want to give sparkpeople a try :)

I was just reading that Kate Middleton and her mum followed the Dukan diet before the wedding to lose a few pounds. as if Kate needed to even lose 1 pound!!
this one looks very restrictive. not sure I could do it for the long haul.

You do not need a specialty diet.

What you do need is to be eating a healthy breakfast, healthy lunch, and a healthy dinner. In addition to those things exercise.

I know someone who is diabetic and has to eat a certain way in order to stay healthy and his nutritionist even shook their head at diets like the one being discussed in this thread.

The person I know reads nutrition labels religiously, and is not allowed to have over 60-70 carbs a meal. And walks 4-5 miles a day, and since February has lost 30 pounds.

Yeah they are just variations of low carb diets.
I know a specialty diet isn't needed, I just want to jumpstart some weight loss for motivation :)
I do feel better when I cut back on carbs like bread and potatoes

Well, I have tried WW and the spark people diet and neither one worked for me. I think I need the restrictions because I do not do well eating any carbs, they blow me up. I am going to try this, so if anyone else wants to do it, lets try it together!!

I am going to try this. I need to grocery shop and will probably get started tomorrow.
I am also modifying it a bit, my breakfast has to be 1 piece of toast with peanut butter. I just don't feel good eating anything else.
so other than that small modification, I am going to stick to the plan :)

I have the book, have for months. If you have (anyone) any kind of a stomach digestive disorder, do not use this plan! I do my own like it, but does not cause the problems this book can do. I had contacted the writers on this..

My biggest success came from tracking my calories and protein (I use caloriecount.com), and making high protein choices. I tried to eat "lower carb, higher protein," not necessarily low carb, but less carbs than I ate before, and more protein. Less noodles and a chicken breast instead of a big bowl of noodles, for example. No bread with dinner at home (and just a little bread when I'm having dinner out). Small changes I can stick with for life.

this is all I have done and lost 107 pounds. there is no need to starve yourself!

that is great! I think the changes we can stick with are important.

that is fantastic!:thumbsup2

I tried to do a 40/30/30 balance of carbs, protein, and fat, but it was really difficult for me to do so. It's was like planning a Disney vacation or something.

The reason for the high protein in the Dukan diet (not sure about this) is to feel full longer. There's no metabolic voodoo involved. It's just an attempt to get you to eat less calories.

I did find a way of losing a lot of weight (70lbs, give or take a few), and all I did was burn more calories than I ate (about a 800 calorie deficit daily). I'm not saying it was easy. It sucked. But it worked.

Wow...that's a ton of carbs for one meal!

I did the 17 Day Diet, and had some issues with it. For example, I was having throat problems at the time, and the hot water with lemon in the morning was murder. I did the meal plan (delivered)...I don't recommend it, altho I don't hold up my experience as proof of problems with it...maybe there are people who've had success with it. For one thing, it was just TOO MUCH food. The diet says to just stop eating when you're full, but how much of that $185 a week was I suppose to throw out? And heck, that's part of my problem...finishing everything on my plate. Also, it doesn't follow the plan very strictly at all, IMHO. I lost 5 lbs in the first few days, and stalled...and then, using the meal plan, I was moving on to the next stage, which slows weight loss, when I had already stopped losing weight on the first stage.

Back to Atkins. :thumbsup2 And I mean really DOING Atkins...scrutinizing the information on their website, rather than just thinking I'm doing Atkins by eating a lot of protein and low carbing.

Every diet has its success with some people. I swore by Weight Watchers after my first child was born 23 years ago. Not so much now, but certainly it works for some people.

Good luck!
