Yep, I was really lucky to get a "do-over" - and in the same year, one month apart!
Last months trip: We were at Disney for 8 nights on the free dining plan (and MNSSHP on 9/28) with DH and my in-laws, and on party night, we arrived for dinner at LTT at 6pm, and did just a few attractions, watched the early parade/fireworks, and they all wanted to leave.
I had hoped to be there from 4-midnight, I even took a nap during the day so I could hang till midnight, brought tons of glow necklaces and stuff from the dollar store, new mickey pirate ears...and well, yeah, I was pretty disappointed. But the parade and fireworks were the best I'd ever seen and I couldn't stop thinking about going back someday, especially with my Halloween fanatic sister!
Pic from the fireworks last month, I just like this picture:
So...after returning home, and finding the discount code (thanks Dis!) for $29/night at a value resort, my sister said we should go for it, and just do the halloween party, (no regular theme park tickets to save even more money). She is wonderful. She felt bad for me about the last party night, and the clincher was when I told her that I didnt even bring my pirate ears to the party since I knew no one was really into it, she said Thats it, d*** it, were going!
Well, OK then, were going! But wait! How can a Disser plan a Disney trip in one week?!! I mean, come on! We need well over 6 months for these things! My DH was not thrilled that I was talking about going back again so soon, but then he mentioned that I should ask my youngest DD16 if she wanted to go with us, since it would only be three days out of school, and she had just received her progress report and her grades are excellent and she deserved it! And so the girls only trip was on!
We arrived on Sunday 10/21 and the party was on Tuesday 10/23. On party day, we dressed up ghostly, well mostly just my DSis and me. Like I said, she loves Halloween! She takes Halloween off from work every year. She spends the whole day looking as dead as she possibly can. At home, she doesnt just use Halloween makeup. She adds things like oatmeal, mud, leaves, fake blood, etc. I explained to her that this is Mickeys NOT so scary party, and this is not universal studios, so she toned it down as much as she could. Since I decided to "get dead" with her, I started with the black eye liner, and she kept shaking her head at me. No, you need more Well, after a while she just took over my make up and her own.
My DD doesnt wear any make up at home, so for her, just having heavy eyeliner was enough. She thought it would be too hot to wear Halloween makeup at the park.
I had fun just walking to the bus stop! I felt like smiling and laughing, but nooooo! My sister said that it doesnt work for a ghost to look like a happy mommy at Disney world. But, she also said that if a kid looked a little freaked out, then thats when its cool to smile and say hello,
We arrived just a few minutes after 4pm, and since this is our only park for this trip, my plan was to try and do it all. I wanted to get in some things early before the official 7PM party time, that were not open during the party, and do as much as possible by midnight.
We had some relax time at the resort on Monday. We visited other resorts and had a lovely day on Monday, Cape May character breakfast and Downton Disney and lots of nice stuff. We relaxed Tuesday through lunch time. Well, no more relaxing! Its time to Party!! Well, actually its time to follow a Diser who, with spreadsheet in hand is about to take you on a non stop, eight hour touring plan.
Side note regarding crowds: Between about 4 6PM, we didn't see many people wearing party wristbands. I thought the crowds were not that bad during the overlap time with day guests and party guests.
We headed in, walked up Main St and did some photopass pictures. I kept getting yelled at by the photographer for smiling, laughing and giggling instead of looking scary.
The next photographer lady, by Walt and Mickey statue, acted like she didnt even notice we were dressed up scary. Kind of funny. When I get my photopass CD, Ill have to post the pic with Tink in our hands. Too funny.
Headed into Tomorrowland to Monsters Inc (we were hot and we needed a quick cool down since we were wearing all that makeup!)
Then to Space Mountain, and then back to Carousel of Progress (since that would not be open during the party, plus my sister and DD had never seen it, - actually last month was the first time for me to see it. dont worry, I wont sing the song. Wouldnt want to get the Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow song stuck in your head yeah, Ive been singing it for just over a month, thank you
Walked the back path between tomorrowland/toontown to the train station (the train also not running during the party). On the train we stopped at main street, and by then it was getting closer to party time, so the halloween people were pouring in! It was fun to see everyone's costume as they came through the gates at the vantage point of above, in the train.
We were running a little behind in my itinerary, so when we got off the train in Frontierland, we high-tailed it to Jungle Cruise, (also not open during the party). When we exited Jungle Cruise it was now closed, we made it just in time. And we also noticed when we got off the boat, that the park had transformed into the Halloween party! The Halloween Party Music was in the air, and there was a treat station nearby with too long of a line to even think about getting a treat yet. Besides, we were really getting hungry now anyhow.
We headed to Columbia Harbour House. We went in the building, it wasnt locked but it was empty. I was kind of bummed since I hadnt eaten there before. We were looking forward to "checking out the upstairs where it is quieter" and the menu looked good too.
There was a treat line on the other side of the building so we went there for our first treat.
Oh well, food would have to wait. We decided to ride haunted mansion since we were right here. Madame Leota (I think that is her name, right?), is sitting there talking to the people in line with that Mae West accent and humor. I could have stood there and listened to her for a lot longer, but my girls were pulling me to get on the ride. I did get about five minutes of video of her, so that was cool. She could really go along with the guests when they would tease her, she didn't miss a beat.
After Haunted Mansion, we decided to check out what the line was for that was right by the entrance line to Haunted Mansion. So it looked like they do a really cool ghost picture over there. We started to stand in line and it did look like the pictures would turn out really cool, but we just decided not to sacrifice that much time, so we bailed out of the line.
We saw a little stand selling Halloween party t-shirts, and the Event CD, with Halloween and Pirate/Princess Party music. This was on my list of things to do today, and again, thank you dis! If it had not been for these boards, I would not have known about the music CD, I was kicking myself for not knowing about it when I was there last month, and thought it would probably be years before I'd get one!
(although after tax, it is almost $30 which seems pretty high, I think).
Now we were more like famished, and getting ready to eat our trick or treat candy for dinner, so we decided to go to Pecos Bills. On the way there we hit the trick or treat candy stop near the Liberty Boat. The line was a good 10 minutes for a few pieces of candy, and I almost got out of the line but we just stuck it out. When you see what happens later, you will see why I shouldnt have even bothered with this candy stop! Anyhow, after the candy stop (where I took this photo of Haunted Mansion, which looks great on my home pc but way dark on the work pc so I hope it looks cool !?),
people were lined up for the first parade, and I knew we would be trapped for a bit, but that's fine. My DD got a burger and fries. My sister got the chicken (nuggets) kids meal, and thought it was cool that you get all these little healthy sides with it, and it really ends up being a very filling meal even for an adult. My DD said she would split her burger with me, so I just got the chili cheese fries. They were great, and filling - which is good, since my DD had no problem eating her entire burger, and forgot about giving some to Mom!
The early (8:30 I think it was) parade was starting, and I didn't want my girls to watch the parade since we were going to the later parade. We couldn't cross anywhere, which was fine, but we were able to get into Adventureland through Pecos Bills. We were near Pirates photopass spot and had to ask them where the restroom was. The one near Pirates is kind of hidden, especially at night, and we had a heck of a time finding it.
We did our make up check in the restroom, and also, since it cooled down some when the sun went down, my DSis was able to put on her halloween gown, aka previously pretty white dress, now all cut up and smeared with dried mud.
Since we were here, we headed to Pirates, and walked right on since a lot of people were at the parade. Here is a pic of my DSis in POC
Now, my plan was to be outta this side of the park by now and to be about half way (or done with) Fantasyland, and ready for the fireworks. We all know things dont always go exactly as planned. I was ok with it, just went with the flow somewhat. So, I decided to head to Splash Mountain to have this side of the park done. When we got out of there, we were all thirsty and stopped for Cokes at a stand and high-tailed it to the fireworks. We just made it, and where we popped out from the bridge area, we ended up a little closer and a little more left of center than I wanted to be, but still very good. There was no way to move anywhere now.
Side note: There were hundreds of people sitting to watch the fireworks. It seemed last month that everyone was standing. With so many people sitting, you could really see how many people were here. It was very crowded.
Watched the amazing fireworks show, and when it ended, we tried to get to Fantasyland to do as much as we could before the parade. I really thought things would be a walk on now, or at least not too bad of a line. Pooh had about a 15 min wait and Peter Pan was even longer, and for some reason it was really warm in the que line. Everyone in line was sweating. I felt bad for the parents carrying tired little ones thru this hot line. Peter Pan and Pooh were kind of important to me because these were two more that my sister didnt get on when we were here last time because the lines were really long. We had to head to the parade in a hurry, but I still really wanted to do Philharmagic, so I guess well have to come back for the show after the parade, Philharmagic is so Disney, dont ya think?
We got to the parade, this is the first time tonight that I could tell my girls are getting a little beat, I know, because I was starting to feel it too.
We stood between the castle bridge and tomorrowland so we could lean against the fence on the other side of the sidewalk. We didnt have a great view of the parade, since we were a little late because of the lines in Fantasyland, so we missed the Headless Horseman at the beginning. Not sure we would have had a great view of him anyway since we were behind the crowd. But it was fine. If you guys havent seen the Boo To You parade and Hallowishes fireworks on the main dis page wdwinfo.com under events, you gotta watch those. They are excellent! (and you get to see the headless horseman!).
After the parade we went into Philharmagic. The guys behind the curtain where the 3D glasses trays are, were scaring the crap out of people who were trying to reach for a pair of glasses. It was a fun show just sitting on the carpet in the que area watching the new victims young and old come in and get the crap scared out of them! We got to see those doing the dirty work just as the doors to the show opened, and we gave them a round of applause.
OK now we are pretty good on attractions (but its about 11:15!). We havent hit too many candy stops yet, and since there are a bunch on the path between Toontown and Tomorrowland, that will work out perfect, cuzz if we have time, Id like to hit a couple of things in Tomorrowland like Buzz. We popped in the Fantasyland candy line, and it started to drizzle. Then, it briefly stopped to a light mist. We got to the Tomorrowland sign for our last Photpass pictures (I forgot to mention we hit the photopass pictures at Pirates too).
Side note: Is it worth it to get the photopass CD for a one park day only trip? Well, you know how I was at Disney for 8 nights last month? Yeah well, see I didnt buy the CD yet, so I was able to put tonights card on that same account before purchasing it once for both trips! Yep, pretty happy about that!
Side note on crowds: yes, crowds!! What is up with that? Its going on 11:30 and there are a lot of kids (and kids at heart) still dancing at both dance parties (Ariels Grotto and Cosmic Rays). And, there were still pretty long lines in Fantasyland after the 2nd parade, and I thought this would be the dead (hee hee) time of the night.
We stopped in Joes Garage in Toontown to use the restroom, and when we were heading out of there, it was pouring.
Yeah, thats ok with us since we are right where we want to be getting some final candy treats and then heading towards the exit since it is almost midnight anyhow!
Did I mention it was pouring, yeah really pouring down and making small rivers and the whole thing. Well, some of the candy people took shelter too. Like in Mickeys house and over by Barnstormer somewhere. Couldnt really see well at this time, yeah it was pouring so hard it was kind of hard to see! Our makeup was pretty much staying on, surprisingly, so we kept walking toward the path. We were right over near the train, and a candy lady came down the path and handed us each a full bag of candy! Yeah! Cool !! We kept walking the path, and were each handed two more bags! Each of the three of us had four full bags of candy!
See? Wish I wouldnt have stood in that long candy line earlier! We made it through the path, it was still raining but not nearly as hard. I wanted to ride Buzz for the last ride of the night (it was about 11:50 pm) and my DD wanted to ride Space Mountain again. Fine. Even though Space Mountain makes me say, Oh Crap like a hundred times before its over. Oh, and since we were soaked it was a little chilly too! We made our way to the bus, walking as slowly as possible. I hate leaving Magic Kingdom. The CMS were holding up signs reminding us that they will see us real soon, and we got to the bus and made it back to the room about 1 am. Funny how in the bus line, and also various times throughout the park, when ya see other people dressed ghostly, or kinda like you, they/you kinda do the "nod" - the "Hey - Cool, wassup" kind of nod. I thought that was cool.
When we got back to our resort we sure wished they had even just one little food section open in the food court for the "after party people". We were pretty hungry. Luckily, I had some snacks in the room to eat while we dumped our candy on the bed.
OK, now reality sets in. We came here with no checked luggage. And a few souvenirs and twelve bags of candy later, we gotta figure out how to stuff everything back into our carry on bags (backpacks).
We decided to think about that tomorrow, and as it turned out, after we sorted, and realized we had a million of those bite sized chic-a-stix and the carmel things with the white stuff in the middle, the excess could be left behind. So, we left our tip for mousekeeping, along with two full bags of candy. Hope they like that kind!
We left our room, and hung out at the pool. We were hoping for our last dose of sun before heading back to autumn and winter in Ohio, but it got really overcast. But that was ok, its still Disney!
Thanks for reading, and for all your help and advice too! Hope you enjoyed .And last but not least
HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!!!!
