I can't believe I'm even considering this! It's so unlike me.
We have two days of school left. My 6th grader has a class picnic tomorrow and a last day of school/going away party on Friday for his teacher who is moving away to get married. My 9th grader is having a last day of school party on Friday. I'm known as "the mom who bakes" so, of course, I've been asked to send cookies to each event. No problem! I can bake a huge batch of chocolate chip/M&M cookies tonight and have enough for everyone!
I don't know what came over me, but I was in a hurry tonight and opted not to pull down my cookbook and use my tried-and-true recipe. Instead, I flipped over the generic bag of chocolate chips and used the recipe off the back.
What was I thinking? My recipe always turns out perfect, except it's time-consuming because I have to haul out the blender and make flour out of oatmeal. I guess the last week of school craziness has gotten to me and I was feeling lazy.
The cookies are gross. They're hard around the edges and raw in the middle and they have this icky taste to them. I quickly baked up a box of brownie mix and added the leftover M&Ms to make them look pretty. Those will have to suffice for tomorrow's 6th grade picnic. As for the other events? I'm seriously thinking of buying bakery cookies, putting them on a plate and sending them to school. Yes, I'm thinking of going to the dark side! I could bake again tomorrow night for the Friday events, but I just don't think I have it in me after tonight's cookie disaster. I rarely bake a gross batch of anything and my baking confidence is shattered! I think I'll be off to the grocery store tomorrow to find some cookies that I can pass off as homemade! Oh the horrors....I don't think I'll be able to look in the mirror for a good, long time......
