That's Banana's! MORE Grocery Store Fun...

I LOVE the line

"Did that make you feel better?"

It is so all-purpose at shooting down all sorts of busybodies, the possibilities are endless! BRILLIANT!

Thankyouthankyouthankyou ::yes:: ,

i worked in the produce dept. at a grocery store for 5 years. not only did we not stop a customer from breaking bags of grapes and cherries or bunches of bananas, but we told them they could do it. you either put the grapes/cherries you don't want in another package, or get a produce bag and put what you want in that one and leave the rest. it's not just ok to do it, it's expected.

I used to work at Publix part-time, and we were not allowed to deny a customer anything. If someone wanted me to pick through a bag of grapes and put the 20 best grapes in a seperate container, or seperate a bunch of bananas and package it, I had to. I was not allowed to say no (there were consequences for unhappy customers). If you want something seperated, but don't want to do it yourself, just ask!

To the banana busting protester, I would have said, "Those four bananas will surely go to a good home, don't worry about them."

To the calcium stealing advisor, "I have an over abundance of calcium, and have to drink a few of these a day."

Well, I might not have thought that quickly at the time. I am good at coming up with retorts two or three hours later.:)

So, you think I SHOULD take the non-credit stand-up comedy course from my local community college? ;)

I'd have no problem asking for their phone number, saying as soon as my shock wears off at their audacity, I'll be happy to contact them with a proper response ;)

This isn't food related but I think it fits. Last week at the grocery store, a strange woman came up to me completely out of the blue. Seriously, it was like she was standing there waiting for someone to walk by. She grabbed the child seatbelt on the cart and attached it threw the straps of my purse. I just stood there with my jaw open because I wasn't quite sure how to react at first. Then she said.."if you buckle this around your purse then it's harder to steal." I just blinked for a moment and said.."Thank you, but the only person who has ever touched my purse in the store is YOU." Then I unbuckled my purse, smiled, and walked off. I know she was trying to be helpful but jeez, people just need to keep their helpfulness to themselves sometimes. I'm sure it was just her delivery, coupled with the cranky mood I was in, but I didn't appreciate her.

around us the grocery stores have a designated spot or basket to put the single or bruised ones you tear off...:confused3. I am pretty sure they do not mind you purchasing the amount you need, unless they are going to start growing bananas in numered bunches of 2,3, 4 etc :rotfl:You should have said due ot your "extremely contagous virus", you can't eat more than 4 bananas.

I am always careful when I do it, but I only want 4 bananas at a time, so I always break.

.49lb is our normal price, when it hits .29lb I get extra and freeze for muffins .

How do you freeze them? I never knew you could..
That would be great for making muffins and banana bread..:thumbsup2

So, I did some googling to find out more about these baby bananas people are talking about.. apparently I stumbled onto the DIS of bananas! Complete with forums on banana identification, banana economics, and ornamental bananas. :upsidedow

In case anyone is curious to learn more about nanners.. ;)

I just split up a bunch today. I always get some greener bananas and some not-so-green. I don't like them really ripe. I also read somewhere that if you split them all up when you get home, rather than leave them connected, they won't ripen quite as fast. I think it works.

Well thank you to all those banana breakers...

Since I usually only buy a few at a time, I just pick through the singles and take the best looking ones. Which is so much easier than looking through the bunches.

I always split banana bunches. I usually get a couple of ripe and a couple of greenish ones. I must be particularly evil because yes...I open bags of grapes or cherries and split them, too. If there are ones in the bag I don't want, over ripe or under ripe..yep, I leave them. These fruits are sold by the pound, no minimum required at my grocery store. I also open the ears of corn so I can see if they are going to be tender or tough. I guess I am a grocer's nightmare.:confused3

I do all of the above as well.

I worked at a grocery store in high school and none of that was ever frowned upon-never even came up with the produce manager, it's all good.
Those grapes have like 2 lbs in the bags, I don't want 2 lbs, I just take what i want and place the bunch I don't in another bag-none of them are sealed shut.
As for the corn, my grocery store has a trash can there for you to peel your corn into. It's expected that everyone peels the corn to see if they're good enough to buy.
