I personally have no issue with what Travis did. His team just fumbled the ball when he got taken off the field, and to that point he had 1 catch for 1 yd. Emotions sometimes get the better of you and there’s a lot of adrenaline and emotion that goes into the game.

20+ years of Tom Brady screaming and yelling at everyone under the sun including coaches and he’s argued as one of the greatest to play.

Brady never physically confronted a coach or teammate that I can recall. He would yell directly at teammates to get the most out of another player. The only blatant outburst I remember was when Bill O'Brien was screaming at Brady, and Brady gave the same back to him. The Kelce situation was totally different and not even close to comparable.....

I’m not sure how I feel about the OT rules, with each team getting a possession.

Shouldn’t it be the defending team’s job to stop the offense from scoring first? Make them punt or turnover on downs.

Sudden death is better IMO.

The Eagles beat Buffalo in the regular season with the exact same scenario. Eagles kicked a late field goal to tie the game. Buffalo received in OT, scored a FG, then the Eagles won on a touchdown on their first possession.

DD said they should play full 15 minute OT periods, like soccer does. Does college football do the same?

I disagree. I don't think sudden death is "fair" in that the offense and defense are such specialties, sudden death would just mean one team's offense is better than the other team's defense. It doesn't mean the TEAM is better, which is what should be measured. Holding a team to a FG *IS* a defensive "win" (when compared to a TD) IMO.

I like the way college does it, but don't think pros should start at the 25. Without running a play, that's a 42 yard FG, for all intents and purposes "automatic" when you get to the quality of the NFL kickers. I think in NFL, the ball should start at the 40. That would be a 57 yard FG, so at least a little "iffy". Even better, start at midfield.

I just don’t take exception to what Kelce did yesterday. He didn’t “shove” Reid but he did get a bit too close with his chest and knocked Reid off balance. Reid normally will scream back in those situations but was caught off guard.

Just much ado about nothing to me.

I didn't think that was a good enough reason to give up the first possession advantage.

Some are speculating San Francisco got confused in the moment and had regular season OT rules top of mind.

That's why coaches get paid the big dollars. One definite advantage to being on O second is you know whether a FG is an option or not.

Agreed. They actually changed the OT rule to avoid the situation where a team could win it without the other team touching the ball. Both teams should have a chance - then it actually does become sudden death. I honestly didn't realize, though, until last night, they actually changed the rule for the Super Bowl (perhaps it was all playoff games) - where if the team getting the ball scored a td, the game was over. Not sure I agree with that, but it is what it is.

Please don't move to the college OT situation..... I find that to be playground rules....!

I've got to agree. There's been a couple times in my life where I've lost my cool and yelled at someone. I've never come close to physically attacking someone though.

You ALWAYS make the other team go first.

College is completely different, and teams will usually play defense first - not the pros. The pros want the ball and they want to score.

I know regular season OT rules in NFL are slightly different than what they did last night. In regular season, if first team scores a TD on offense, the game is over. Last night, both teams were guaranteed a possession.

They changed it after the 2021-2022 season partially after the Chiefs/Bills playoff game ended with a Chiefs TD on the opening possession of OT.

Never came into play during the 2022-23 playoffs.

They need to talk more to 49ers players about the rules..... Last year their players were complaining about rules they didn't understand, too. Not sure what difference it made in Niners situation - they were obviously trying to score a TD to open OT. Kicking a field goal there was never going to end the game - not even regular season.

I think the Niners wanted to go after the tired KC defense first - get them on the field and let their own defense rest. That seems like a better approach. Guess we'll never know if it would have made a difference kicking the ball first.

The advantage of knowing exactly what you need to do by going second on offense outweighs any advantage to going first on offense.

At this point, the guys doing it for a living think offense first. 10 years from now, they might evolve to the defense first! I can remember back to when a team won the toss before the game and actually received the ball first! Now it's all about the second half defer!!

A somewhat interesting point of the new OT rule (interesting in a nerd kinda way) - they played regular 'quarters'. If the game was still tied after 2 quarters, there would have been another 'second half', and Chiefs would have gotten the ball by SF kicking.....! That goes to your point! Just not sure how many OT games have gone 3 quarters!

Under the playoff OT format, you want the ball second so you know what you have to do when you get possession. Knowing a TD wins the game for you (versus a FG) means that you can call plays knowing that you're going for it on 4th down every time (unless you're close enough for a tying FG and it's 4th and long).

I would say that I just hope both teams have fun, but it's more like I wish both teams would have lost.

That display by Travis Kelce was inexcusable, I don't know if a NFL player could be fired, but he deserved to be fired on the spot or at least benched 'til he could be traded to some other team. (preferably whatever the worst team is)

And if the first team on offense scores a Touchdown and Extra Point,the second team has the option to try to score a Touchdown and a 2 Point Conversion to end the game,which is the strategy the Chiefs say they were going to employ if they had won the toss and then been in that situation.
