I figure my luck can't get worse (knock on wood) than it's been lately.

I was told Wednesday that today would be my last day on the job due mostly to "Sequestration" worries at my company; I'm too expensive.....

No, never a cheap date or free ticket!

I'm a long-term temporary and might get placed elsewhere in the company but that's a very big "if" and definitely means a big drop in pay. We'll see! I'm already retired (pitiful teacher's pension) and this job was important to keep us from dipping into our retirement funds. If I leave I would eventually get some IRA type funds. I will have to check into unemployment; may not apply in my situation. I will also look for a job outside, after our trips in May and June (bad timing).

...how about subbing? A lot of our [recently] retired teachers sub in our school system - they love that there's no 'red tape'/politics aggravation that they have to deal with and they choose how many days of the week they want to sub...

That's the one thing I will NOT do! I would rather be a waitress or sales clerk than ever teach again.....I loved the kids during my years in the classroom but I spent my last 14 years training adults, working as a computer specialist etc. before retiring. Been there; done that and had enough.

...I know EXACTLY what you mean....yet folks have the NERVE to say how 'easy' it is...

So true....I do not advise anyone to go into teaching anymore; too much testing and accountability and in our local huge school system; too much power in the hands of the parents. Teachers always lose because the system bends to the wealthy, noisy few who know their rights!
