That thing that changes the channel

Mote (short for remote)...when you're lazy enough to need a remote, you're too lazy to use the full word and must shorten it to "mote". ;)

We call it a clicker.

And just to be sure I asked DH,

"What do we call this thing?" I was air clicking (akin to air guitaring) and pointing to the t.v.

And he gave me a sideway glance and looked at me like I was nuts and said, "A clicker?" real s-l-o-w like.

So, yup, clicker it is. :cutie:

Okay, this is a little embarrassing but I feel obligated to answer! During all the years I lived with my parents (and occasionally even now with my husband) we would call it a...

beediebobble!

I guess one time one of us must have been asking for it but couldn't think of the name so "beediebobble" blurted out. OMG, now that I'm thinking about it, it must've been my dad who started it because I just now remembered that when I was a little girl he would call my hair rubber bands with the 2 hard plastic balls on each end "beediebobbles".

I guess that was his word for "thingamajig" and finally it just stuck as a synonym for remote. I know it sounds really silly and dumb, but I am seriously so used to hearing it, it's just like any normal word to me!

Well, heck. I guess we're freaks too. We call it the flipper.

When I was a kid it was "the box" . Of course that was back in the dark ages. I was the remote control until my teen years when we finally got a remote control tv! I remember sitting there by the tv changing channels while my dad said "Next, next, next..." :sad2:

I call it the clicker and it drives dh crazy!!!!! He's always says it doesn't click. Well I hear that in the old days they actually did make a click sound, so there!

I'm surprised no one else has said this one yet???

We had a Zenith in the 1970's and it said "Space Command" on the handheld, so that's what we've always called it. We still affectionately call it the Space Command, or Space Commando for variation.

It was a really neat tv with a built-in phone. You could dial from the Space Command and the tv would become a speaker phone. My dad loved to freak people out and tell them we could see them on the tv too! :rotfl2:

My fully programmable one is the Commander .

It's made by Sony and is called the Remote Commander.

This thing rocks i haven't found something I can't program it to do. I even mess with DD sometimes all the way down the hall 4 room away . I can set up a mirror and bounce it to change the TV and Cable down there.

Remote.
Or also referred to as:
-Other remote
-That remote
-Where's the remote?!

I call it a remote. DH calls it "Fred". He says "Fred is the name of the guy who gets up and changes the channel for you." :rotfl2:

I call it the remote. My husband calls it the controller. My kids call it the tuner. Although, all of us, at some point, have reverted to making the channel changing motion with our hands and asking where the "thing" is.

We used to call it the remote. But ever since DS learned to say "Mmmooooat-ah!" we call it the Mote.:happytv:

Oh my gosh, that's so funny! I was just thinking "the Commander"! We just traded in the Commander for a Logitech 880 something or other so now it's back to "the remote".
My parents call it the tv box. that's really weird.

remote...usually preceeded by "where's the darn" (i would use the real word, but this is a family board!)
