That Pirate Stole My Tiara: The Pre-Trip Report

Yup. It's nicer than the rest of Foxwoods but small-ish (by casino standards). Mostly slots (which I don't usually play - it makes me said to lose $10 in 6.3 seconds) and not many table games (which we DO play - mostly Caribbean Stud Poker). Great atmosphere, though and the hotel and restaurants seemed nice.

Hmmm, I am not a slot person also. I tend to play roulette and Let It Ride. I am trying to decide whether I want to head up on Franoncia on Friday for the day or down to the casino.

So, in light of all the ADR drama running rampant on everyone's trip reports, I've decided to keep mine just the way they are.
I've also decided what I'm going to eat.
Three months from now.
Because I can.
Don't judge.
This is a big step for my indecisive Libran personality.
Trust me.
(You should also trust that come the time of the actual dinner in the actual restaurant in the actual World, I will rethink my choices and re-decide my decisions. Libran personality. At its best.)

Oh...the blessing and curse that is a Libran personality. I know it all too well, my friend...all too well.

Rainforest Cafe: Animal Kingdom Edition
This is our OOP meal and I'm not completely sold on the restaurant or its menu, but it was Missy's one and only restaurant request and I was more than happy to honor it.
Appetizer: They all seem like your normal, run o' the mill apps. Not sure I'll get anything. Maybe the Coastal Calamari to split.
Drink: Water (I'm trying to avoid soda on this trip. Otherwise I will drink it with EVERY meal.)
Entree: Probably a half rack of the Mojo Bones. They sound nummy.
Dessert: Don't know. Can't find a listing anywhere.

Mojo bones are awesome! You need to get them, you will love them. I'm sure I have a list of desserts from there somewhere...after all...the TK family does like a safari every now and then...we are members.:lmao:

Le Cellier: The Cellar. Of Meat. And Cheese Soup. Eh.*
Appetizer: Pretzel bread and Woohoo Canadian Cheddar Cheese Soup. By the way, the Woohoo part isn't on the menu. Eh.
Drink: Water? Not sure. Anyone ever have the Ice Wine? I'm not a wine-person really, but if it's fruity at all I may like it. Eh.
Entree: Le Cellier Mushroom Filet Mignon - and yes, like the rest of the world, and the World, I'm hoping they put the Maple Glazed Filet back on the menu pre-September. Eh.
Dessert: Maple Creme Brulee - this will be my first foray into the world of brulee. Eh.
*Eh - not as in "meh" or "I'm not enthused" but as in stereotyping Canadian speakers everywhere. (NOMel)
Okay, DH has some cousins/family that live in Canada, his aunts/uncles are originally from Italy but moved there, raised the cousins there. Nothing funnier than people who can speak fluent Italian, but when they speak English, break out into the Canadian eh!:rotfl2:

San Angel Inn: O El Restaurante Esperando No El Sucko
DED!
This is the ressie I'm most nervous about sucking big time. But I figure it won't really matter to Missy as long as they bring on the tequila.
Appetizer: Nachos
Drink: Frozen Strawberry Margarita
Entree: Plato Mexicano - bring on the beans and cheese! Sorry. That sounds so wrong.
Dessert: Arroz con Leche - dear LORD if any of you ever have the opportunity to have hot rice pudding right out of the pot with cinnamon sprinkled on top, DO IT. (No pressure).
Seriously, I so want to eat here, but am so afraid of the quality. Everyone, and I mean, everyone I've talked to gives a big ole thumbs down. I say fortify yourself with tequila and look the other way. Plus, weren't you going to throw things at the people on the ride, anyway? Amuse yourselves, and enjoy the ambience!!!

Tutto Italia: Home of the Carbs
If the portions are anywhere as big as my nonna's, fahgeddaboutit. They'll be ROLLING us out.
Appetizer: Prosciutto di Parma - this girl CANNOT under ANY CIRCUMSTANCES pass on good prosciutto.
Drink: Water. I need to make sure there is ample carb space.
Entree: Bucatini Gratinati - you know that sound that Homer Simpson makes? Insert here.
Dessert: Mocha Tiramisu
Cannot wrap my head around this not being Alfredo's anymore. I could seriously write a whole chapter about my experiences there and how several waiters knew me, my mom, and fam by name, but no hijack. I'm glad you're eating here. DH and I are very, very picky about eating Italian food out, him being Italian and an excellent chef, we are snobby. We admit it. We are not snobby about much, but this is definitely one of those things. I can't wait to hear if you like it.:thumbsup2

Kona Cafe (breakfast): The DUH one.
Breakfast is my favorite meal. Pity we're only doing one.
Room service anyone?
Drink: Lilikoi juice and coffee
Entree: Tonga! Tonga! Tonga! Toast!
  :yay: :yay:
As for counter service meals and snacks, it's really going to depend on where we end up and when. I have some ideas but I'm not tied to anything.
Except a Dole Whip.
And a TK Junky Apple.
And maybe the Cannonball sammie from Earl of Sandwich.
And a treat from Goofy's Candy Co.
And a stuffed pretzel from MGM (NODHS).
And a churro.
And the Tangerine Daquiri from Morocco.
And the orange Grand Marnier thing from France.
And school bread.
And a tea slushie from Japan.
And a Mickey Bar.
And an Itzakadoozie.

And I'm totally coming back from this trip ROTUND. And wasted. Apparently.

Yo Ho!

:flower3:

It's amazing how once you think you've completed your food foray, oh look! What about me, Mr. Counter Service? And me, Ms. Snack? Don't forget us, Tink, don't forget us! And I'm flattered it's become the TK Junky Apple. Not to be confused with the TK chunky thighs. That's a whole other world of trouble.

Look! It's a Twofer! It's two, two, two for you!
I'm doubly blessed!!!

Anywho, today and this weekend I took care of three important items:

lincoln-towncar-limousine.jpg
Look who's got a ticket to ride! Go'n with your bad self!

Important Item Numero Dos: Pretty Toes!

I also made our pedicure appointments today with the Niki Bryan Spa at the Grand Floridian. For 50 glorious minutes our tootsies will be scrubbed, rubbed and polished. Oh how I cannot wait for my feet to be pampered. Constance was sweet enough to make our appointments for the same time - 2:00 p.m. for 9/20/08. The treatment is $65 per person plus tip and I'm paying for Missy's as part of her birthday gift (along with her MNSSHP ticket).

Psst...TK - this means we can make "official" Lapu Lapu Fest plans. I think my O'hana ressies are for 6-ish, so what say you?
I'm flattered that you'll be prettying yourself up before Lapu Lapu Fest. I just don't know if I could accept you without nicely done toes.;)

We can plan Lapu Lapu Fest?

Like a real time?

Real plans?

:hyper: :hyper: :hyper:

Now I have to think.:faint: Let me check my non-itinerary itinerary and verify...I think my lunch is at 1145. I expect DS to be napping sometime around 1-130, perhaps. My plan truly was to maybe hang around Main St a bit after lunch, and then head on over to the monorail resorts/Poly and just chill whilst waiting for you to be available. If DS is sleeping, we'll be able to just roll his stroller right onto the monorail without waking him, which is awesome. What time is good for you guys, giving you enough time to chill after your pedis?

Cue choir of angels.

Only where this one is white, mine is teal. And it's the perfect size - bigger than a wristlet and smaller than a purse. I'm looking forward to having something just on my wrist and so, well, clutchable.
Oh, my mom would be so proud. She loves teal/turquoise. It's a fabby color!:)

And thanks for the two chapters.

I soooooooo needed these today.

So, in light of all the ADR drama running rampant on everyone's trip reports, I've decided to keep mine just the way they are.
I've also decided what I'm going to eat.

(You should also trust that come the time of the actual dinner in the actual restaurant in the actual World, I will rethink my choices and re-decide my decisions. Libran personality. At its best.)

So, in no particular order, here are the menu items that have struck my fancy at the table service restaurants we'll be frequenting. Frequently. With frequence:

Rainforest Cafe: Animal Kingdom Edition
This is our OOP meal and I'm not completely sold on the restaurant or its menu, but it was Missy's one and only restaurant request and I was more than happy to honor it.
Appetizer: They all seem like your normal, run o' the mill apps. Not sure I'll get anything. Maybe the Coastal Calamari to split.

Entree: Probably a half rack of the Mojo Bones. They sound nummy.
Dessert: Don't know. Can't find a listing anywhere.

50's Prime Time Cafe: Gimme S'Mores or Gimme Death
I haven't eaten here in years and I'm really looking forward to it!
Appetizer: Beer Battered Onion Rings. Mmmm. Tink likes.
Drink: Mowie Wowie - heavier on the juices.
Entree: Either the Traditional Meatloaf or the Old Fashion Pot Roast. Mmmm. Down home cookin'!
Dessert: Duh. S'Mores

Eh.

Kona Cafe (breakfast): The DUH one.
Breakfast is my favorite meal. Pity we're only doing one.
Drink: Lilikoi juice and coffee
Entree: Tonga! Tonga! Tonga! Toast!

O'hana: Means Family. And no one gets left behind. Or forgotten. Or underfed.
I was up in the air whether or not to cancel this and just do a Kona dinner too. I'm still feeling a little wishy-washy about it.
Appetizers: Everything.
Drink: Hopefully Lapu Lapu numero dos from the Tambu Lounge.
Entree: Everything.

Ok, I don't know how I missed this post, which preceded the later one, that I just recently read....It would seem I should have read THIS one first, since that's the order in which they were written! Dang DIS e-mail notification rules (as in I hadn't visited the forums recently so I never got any further updates).

*Ahem*

If I wasn't crazy-excited over the ADR part of my upcoming trip, I dang well am now!!!!!!!!!! Girl, you can make a person DROOL! I'm not eating at Rainforest Cafe (we've been to the Burlington, MA too many times to make it seem "Disney special" anymore, and besides it's not on the DDP....:rolleyes1 ), and I'm not eating at Kona (don't even have the slightest interest in Tonga Toast...). (<-------Who said that?!?!, me??:rotfl: ). I changed my mind on initially wanting an ADR for San Angel but went with something else precisely due to the El Sucko factor (thank you DIS reviews...). I'm actually not eating anywhere you are, but despite that, you have me thinking of menus and the perfectly delectable delicious decadence that I will partake of.

I am in on Goofy's Candy Co., the churro, the school bread, ANY "Grand Marnier thing!", and most definitely a Mickey Bar!! :lovestruc

.

Kona Cafe (breakfast): The DUH one.
Breakfast is my favorite meal. Pity we're only doing one.
Drink: Lilikoi juice and coffee
Entree: Tonga! Tonga! Tonga! Toast!

Breakfast is also my favorite meal. And we never had one outside of our room during our trip. And we were too cheap to ever do room service. I have concluded that six mornings of yogurt when at the World is so many different forms of wrong that I'm surprised the universe didn't implode as we scraped the sides of our last containers of Yoplait. Or was it Dannon?

Next time, though. There will be breakfast. Oh yes.

Edit: It was 7! Seven mornings and not a one of them included a real breakfast. I hang my head in shame.

And you will get everything done! I have faith in you!

Faith. Hope. Trust and a little pixie dust! :tinker:

I am currently having bag angst as well. It's a small world, afterall. :lmao:

I tested mine out this weekend and it's just not making me happy.

Do what I did - think about what you want and don't want in a bag and then what you'll be carrying.

God. Who knew choosing a park bag was more difficult than choosing a life partner? LOL

As I was reading, I thought "I have a friend who swears by her Vera Bradley wristlet thingy - I should recommend it to Tink." But a COACH! wristlet-y clutch-y bag? Perfect. :thumbsup2

Aw you were tinking of Think? I mean thinking of Tink. Awww.

I have to admit, I am intrigued by this wristlet thingy. I must investigate! :magnify:

It's $98 regular price and comes in a lot of colors. Check them out HERE.

DUDE!!!.....You CAN use Magical Express with Southwest!!! The only way it "doesn't" work is on your return flight, you have to bring your bags with you on your bus (they won't magically disappear from your room like the reverse when you arrive). But they WILL load them on the bus for you and then you collect them at the airport and do your own check-in.

Hm. Good to know. The return trip actually wouldn't even matter for us since we're not flying home out of Orlando but out of Tampa.

I will probably keep the limo since we've saved up to really splurge on ourselves. But we'll see.

I am trying to decide whether I want to head up on Franoncia on Friday for the day or down to the casino.

What would be your plans for Franconia? I love NH.

Mojo bones are awesome! You need to get them, you will love them.

I'm not normally a rib girl but this sounded good to me. And there really wasn't anything else on the menu that was screaming, "TINK! EAT ME!"

Yes. I'm aware of how bad that sounds.

I say fortify yourself with tequila and look the other way. Plus, weren't you going to throw things at the people on the ride, anyway? Amuse yourselves, and enjoy the ambience!!!

I'm feeling more and more secure about our O'hana reseravation and less and less secure about this ressie. The biggest issue is - where else would we eat? She'd mentioned Teppan Edo, which I'm willing to try, sans ginger (NOZZUB) but I haven't decided for sure. I wanted to try Restaurant Marrakesh, but she nixed that one ("It smelled weird." LOL). I'm not into French cuisine too much, but I guess there's always France or the UK too. And Germany...There is always Coral Reef too. I dunno, I'm not stressing too much yet.

And I'm flattered it's become the TK Junky Apple. Not to be confused with the TK chunky thighs. That's a whole other world of trouble.

K. Well, I imagine we'll be gone for the pedi's from about 2 until 3:15ish and if we haven't checked into the room yet, we'll need to do that then. So would anytime between 4 and 6 (again, I really need to confirm that O'hana ressie time!) work for you?

Cue choir of angels.

I changed my mind on initially wanting an ADR for San Angel but went with something else precisely due to the El Sucko factor (thank you DIS reviews...).

::sigh:: Yeah, I think this one is going to get changed.

I have concluded that six mornings of yogurt when at the World is so many different forms of wrong that I'm surprised the universe didn't implode as we scraped the sides of our last containers of Yoplait. Or was it Dannon?

I thought I felt a disturbance in the Force.

That bag is adorable!!!!! I love me some Coach!

Right on sista!

LOL - No, but I love having a Mel on my thread!

It's kind of a joke about Mel "1000happyhaunt" of the "Unfinished Trip Report" Hall of Fame. If you've ever read a LaLa or ZZUB trip report you might know who I'm referring to.

Dude, when am I NOT in the midst of bag angst?!
When you are having hair angst

What jcc said. ;)

Hm. I didn't know there was one in Burlington. Might be nice to try it out before the trip.
I have been to Rainforest at the DTD location and the Burlington, MA location. The Burlington was delish, DF and I had a great meal there and that is saying a lot since we almost went to Cheesecake Factory which we :lovestruc
The DTD not so much, I wasn't impressed but I have heard the AK one is much better.

Burlington is veeeerrry close to LL. ;) ;) ::yes:: ::yes::

Seriously? Seriously. I've tried SO HARD to avoid the whole ADR changing scenario. Really, I have. I have enough drama in my non-dinners-three-months-from-now-life. I don't need any victual drama to boot.

And yet, sadly, here I am.

Intensely considering a change in ADRs.

I am afloat on the sea of indecision.
titanic-058.gif

("I'll never let go, Jack.::shiver:: I'll never let go. ::more shivering::Oh look! A boat!::lets go:: )

We are currently the keepers of an ADR at the San Angel Inn in Mexico in Epicot. I've wanted to eat here since, like, forever. I'm so in love with the Mexican pavilion that it could be considered ridiculous. I love the animal carving in the entrance of the pyramid (though I've yet to buy one). I love the "night time" feeling of the belly of the pyramid. I even loved El Rio de Tiemp pre-rennovation. I'm not saying I thought it should be a Fastpass (NOMaelstrom) or anything but it didn't make me want to vomit either. And, so, I've always been enamored of the idea of making an ADR at the San Angel Inn and requesting a table by the water. As a matter of fact I almost did it as a walk-up on one of my last trips but they were transitioning between lunch and dinner and wouldn't be available for about an hour. And I didn't feel like waiting.

But alas, I have not heard one, single, solitary good thing about this restaurant except for the ambiance. And I can't, in good faith, waste a TS credit on ambiance alone.

I mean, I can't eat the ambiance, you know?

And so, I'm at that crossing of the roads. That point of no return. The re-making of an ADR.

You'd think, with the multitudinous number of restaurant options in Epicot and vicinity that this would be fairly easy.

Nay.

We've already got our other "must do" ADRs at Epicot: Tutto Italia and Le Cellier.

And even though there are probably no fewer than 20 other options, I am still at a loss. Here's why:

Coral Reef: I've heard so-so reviews and I'm not a seafood lover. I know they have other stuff but...meh.
Rose & Crown: Nothing on here screams to be ingested (though the Guinness is probably begging to be imbibed by Missy). I like the idea of the steak and fish, but I don't know. Nothing thrilling.
Biergarten: While the atmosphere sounds totally appealing NONE of the food sounds good to me. Wurst and kraut are not my style.
Chefs de France: In my experience (which isn't much) French foods are heavy. And while I can get past this, again, nothing on this menu calls out to me. Except the escargot. And the only thing they are saying is, "SAVE ME!"
snail.gif
snail.gif
snail.gif

Nine Dragons: This is a slight possibility. The honey-sesame chicken sounds delish and they have some savory appetizers. This one is maybe in the running.
Restaurant Marrakesh: This would've been my choice but it has been vetoed by Missy. And considering she only made ONE restaurant request and let me do all of the other planning, I feel I have to honor this.
Teppan Edo/Tokyo Dining: Ok, first and foremost, can someone explain to me the difference between these two restaurants? Their menus seem very much the same. We have a fabulous Japanese steakhouse in Providence (Oki's) and I love the food, the concept, everything really...but the ginger. So this one is also in the running...if I can figure out the difference.

And then there are the choices in the Epicot resorts area, of which, only a couple appeal to me:
Big River Brewing Works: Missy's a beer-lover so I think she'd get a kick out of this and they have a decently sized menu. I'm not sure if they participate in DDP and no nothing about their reputation. Anyone have any info?
Yachtsman Steakhouse: I'm a steak kind of gal and I've heard good things.

So, that's where I'm at. I'd rather not leave the Epicot area and I really, really don't know if it would be worth giving San Angel Inn a shot. What's a girl to do?

sorry-3.gif

I ask you, my dear DIS friends, what to do. I may also mosey on over to the dining board to leave a post there for advice too. Just someone, please help me with this gastronomical decision!!!

V - where are you. Sell this girl on weinersalad!:thumbsup2

Weiner.
Salad.
Weiner Salad.
WeinerSalad.

Nope.

Sorry.

No matter how I say it it just doesn't sound remotely appetizing to me.

Not to mention the fact that sausage and I don't normally get along.

(DON'T ANYONE GO THERE. Because I went there in my head immediately upon typing this and it would most definitely get me/us banned from the boards.)

:ahem: Anywho...

Meats like that, which are normally full of big-time preservatives, are migraine triggers for me. Sometimes even the smell of a hot dog is enough to set me off.

Are the little guys in your signature going to Party like Pirates with you?

They are adorable!!

So, I was thinking, as I perused through my 33 subscriptions in my CP, that we talk an awful lot about non-trip stuff on our PTRs/TRs. And some of us are nearing 100 pages and our trips are still months away! (The threads are closed down at 200ish pages and new threads must be opened.) Not to mention that sometimes it's really tough to keep track of what conversation is taking place where at what time and CARP! did I catch up on that one yet?

So...Tink got to thinking.

(Never a good thing.)

Tink got to thinking about posting a chatty type thread on the CB (Community Board). One for us to chat in and make EVEN MORE new friends (and potential Lapu Lapu Fabby Fest members).

What do y'all think? I don't mind creating the thread and posting a link on here and in my siggie and then y'all could do the same and we'd all be on the same Bat Channel at the same Bat time and we'd only have ONE place to catch up on our non-trip chitty chat, leaving PLENTY of room on our PTR/TR threads.

I was thinking we could call it:

"The Fabby LapuLapuettes: Welcome. Have A Pineapple. "

I don't know if this will help, but DH & I actually liked San Angel Inn. ::yes::

It's kind of more authentic Mexican than tex-mex, so it's not really spicy, and we really enjoyed it. It was a couple of years ago when we last went, but I think we had a chicken mole dish, which was delicious. Kind of a chocolate based sauce - it's not as weird as it sounds! It's really good! :thumbsup2
