We are planning on being in MK on Sunday too. If I see a guy with glassy eyes, the shakes and hands still cluching the steering wheel I will know its you :rotfl:

psimon get off at howard rd exit make a left at red light go under bridge and make a left this puts you back on 295 n next exit is southeast / southwest freeway exit .this exit will be begin about 200ft from the ramp your coming up meger it sometime backed up.once on the se/sw freeway exit stay to your left . this run right into the beginning of 395 south. from there get over to the left as hov lanes start just before you go across the river.back up should be from were suoth capitol street ramp jions 395s to the hov lanes bridge.have left from baltimore on friday evening plus have worked in dc for last 18 yrs.so i know about dc traffic. 103.5 fm wtop has traffic on the 8's.if there is an accident all bets are off that this way will be faster. :thumbsup2

We'll be doing the I95 drive too. We are leaving at midnight on Thursday. DH will be doing most of the driving. His friend gave him a tip- use Seabreeze astringent when you want to feel refreshed. The smell is enough to pep you up a little and keeps your face clean! We bring a thermos of coffee and he eats his Wintergreen Lifesavers. Last year he bought caffeine tablets, but never used them. He is able to stay awake but by the time we hit JAcksonville, we pull over and he naps a little. This trip by breakfast time he should be ready for a nap. I'm trying to figure what state we'll be in-should be N Carolina. We'll find a Cracker Barrell and he'll nap while me and the kids eat breakfast.

My body is aching already, thinking of the drive. Happy, safe driving everyone!

Nice to hear so many other people who will be driving down. People look at me like I have 4 ears when I tell them we're driving.

We're leaving around 7:30 PM on Friday, 11/17 and driving straight through. We'll catch 95 on the southern end of Baltimore. We'll also be looking for a place for breakfast (I'm hoping it's our only restaurant stop) along the way. I'm packing dinner the night before and we'll be eating in the car when we get on the road.

I am very familiar with Howard Road. Do that trick all the time (did it 3 weeks ago on the way to Myrtle Beach). But then, it was 8AM on a Saturday morning. That was the easy part. Quantico was still a mess even that early.

Thanks....

Paul,
Are you in a part of SJ that's convenient to the Cape May Ferry? We've found that the time from Ocean City to the NC border is the same as I95 if we take the Ferry(app$30), US 113/13 down the DelMarVa, Bay Bridge($12), and Us 58 from Norfolk to I95 at Emporia. It's the route we've taken for the last eight years and, if the DC area is in the insanity mode, can be quicker.

Just a thought. :)

Though in Southern NJ, I am across the river from Philadelphia. Consequently, I don't gain any time driving to Cape May to get the Ferry. I actually lose a little.

I could go through DelMarVa after I cross the Delaware Memorial Bridge. I had thought of that.... but figured getting through Norfolk might not be to easy. Still leaning towards 301 through DelMarVa, crossing at Annapolis, and heading south on 301 until I get to the belt around Richmond. Still time to figure it out. :teeth:

Good read on getting through Norfolk. If you should choose that route, I recommend a fair amount of map study before you go and someone to act as navigator as you work you way thru. One wrong turn and you will be unhappily on your way to Hampton Roads. :sad2:

Like another poster, I am in the Piedmont Triad. We don't have quite a 15 hour drive, but it is far enough to be a big deal. My best tool for staying alert is conversation with DW. She likes for me to drive, which is OK by me. We get some good conversation in while the kids are watching DVDs. I also drink lots of Diet Mt Dew. Nothing too original but it works.
