How is Thanksgiving and the weekend after Thanksgiving in the parks? Does Universal do anything special for the holidays?

Thanksgiving weekend is packed. They do have holiday things like Grinchmas and the macys holiday parade. They generally start in December ( i think the 1st weekend, but I cant remember)

we have spent the last three thanksgivings at PB and it is really not that bad.

i have seen it a lot worse during the summer months. The Wednesday before

Thanksgiving is not bad at all, Thanksgiving morning was not too busy.

it started picking up on Friday and Saturday was always the busiest day.

We ate Thanksgiving dinner at Trattoria and it was excellent!

I don't know if you're planning on staying onsite. If you are, you'll have no problem even if it is crowded since you'll have express passes for almost every ride and you could use early park entrance for the Forbidden Journey. Even if you stay just one night onsite, you get express passes for your entire party for your check-in and your check-out days. We went on Thanksgiving a couple years ago, staying T'Giving night, going two park days and loved it. It was much less crowded than Disney and we didn't have to wait in lines. We were at Disney from the previous Saturday though T'Giving morning.

I thought I had my Thanksgiving trip for 2014 planned out but then I found out about the HP expansion next summer. I am now trying to decide if we should arrive the Wed or Thurs before Thanksgiving week - before everyone gets out of school. I'm worried about how crowded it will be Thanksgiving week due to the expansion. We are staying on property so I know that will help. Do you think arriving the week prior would be better? We plan on 3 days at Universal/IOA and 4 days at DC/BG/SW/Aquatica. If we arrive the Wed prior to Thanksgiving, we would go to Univ/IOA on Wed-Fri, but I didn't want to have to take the kids out of school. I would prefer to arrive the Sat before Thanksgiving and stay until the Friday or Saturday after Thanksgiving. So what are your thoughts on the crowd level for Thanksgiving next year - when should I arrive?

Unfortunately it won't matter when you arrive next year. The Studios will be as busy as IOA was when HP opened...or worse. That said...you should definitely visit before Thanksgiving weekend otherwise the park will most likely close due to capacity.

agree..The studios will see epic crowds for a long long time once it opens.

That's what I was afraid of - Thanks!! Off to plan new dates!!

We are heading to Universal for Thanksgiving this year. We will be there Wednesday to Monday. I only purchased 4 day park to park tickets. Now I'm trying to figure out which 4 days out of the 5 should be park days. Any suggestions? Is Sunday still pretty busy? We are lucky enough to be staying onsite. Thanks for any help!

Sunday is pretty busy but not as bad as Friday or Saturday. Are you staying onsite by chance? If not, I would plan on getting to the parks as early as possible so you can be near the front of the line when the gates open. Eat at off peak times and try to use single rider lines whenever possible.

How about the weekend before Thanksgiving? Will it be bad? We are staying on site, but not sure if my brother and FSIL will be.
