This trip was completely unplanned, but worked out totally great! We had my in-laws for Thanksgiving week. By Wednesday night, we were ready for our own vacation. Dh said I could give Disney a call to see if there was any availability for the weekend. I called reservations and Sherry Lou helped me find a room to suit our needs. Our choices came down to a suit at Coronado Springs, a studio room at Beach Club villas or a standard room at PORS. We chose the PORS due to the price. There were no AP rates or Florida resident rates available, so we ended up with a room for $135 + tax. Our company left Friday around noon and Dh got home from work around 4PM. We arrived at PORS around 5:30pm. We checked in only to find they assigned us a 2nd floor room in alligator buyou. With a baby, the stoller, and all the other baggage that goes with baby, a 2nd floor room without an elevator wouldn't work. I asked if we could either have a 1st floor room in alligator buyou or a room at the mansions that has elevator access. It took her some time, but she was able to get us a room...a 1st floor room in the mansions!!! Instead of going to the room, we decided to eat at the food court first. DS(10) had clam chowder and a quesadilla, I had clam chowder, and dh had a salad. All were good! Off we headed to our room, after a bunch of zigs and a few zags, we found the room. I opened the door and wellcoming us on the table was a gift bag filled with goodies. DS ran over to it and peeked inside. I read the card, and it wasn't for us. He was disappointed. I called the front desk to let them know that someones gift basket was in the room. They thanked us and got the info on the gift tag. They said we could keep the gift and they would have another sent to the correct person. DS was thrilled!! It was a nice size tote filled with cheese, crackers, chips, cookies, etc.
We checked out the room. It was great! It had a refrigerator and the room was very clean. We were very pleased with the room.
We left the room and went to our car. We headed over to the Contemporary for pin trading. There was a huge line for the kids board, but ds was very patient and talked with the other kids in line. Dh and I looked at people's pins while DS(7 months) slept. Because of the holiday, DS was given a free pin and was permitted to trade 6 trades instead of 5. He was so happy when he was able to get 6 new lanyard series 3 pins. (He has the whole collection of series 1 and 2.) We left the Contemporary and went back to the room.
Saturday morning, the baby and I went for a walk. We stopped at FQ and got breakfast for us and beignets for DH and DS who were still sleeping. The food court was very empty 1st thing in the morning. I took my time getting us back to the room so that dh and ds could get more sleep. By 10:30 they were out of bed and we headed to the RS food court. As we passed the arcade dh and ds insisted they had to waste some quarters. Ds remembered about the ducks and the duck food so he saved a few of his quarters to feed the ducks. The food court was packed, so we just refilled mugs and went to feed the ducks. I stopped by the front desk to get a times guide. While there, I saw there was a flyer about a campfire at PORS at the theme pool. It's Fri, Sun, and one other night of the week. Went to feed the ducks. DS saw people fishing so we headed over there. He and dh fished and baby and I went to the room.
DS and dh came back from fishing. We decided to go swim at the theme pool. The water was very cool. DS went on the slide a few times, but we were just too cold! We went back to the food court and ate lunch. DS got another quesadilla and a bowl of potato cheese soup. I got soup too. DH got a bacon cheeseburger. Food was good. On the way back to the room, we stopped at the quiet pool. It was so warm!!! We stayed there a long time.
DS and DH wanted to go to DTD to pin trade, so they drove. Baby and I decided to take the boat instead. By the time we reached the bridge it started to drizzle. By the time I reached the boat dock, it was a steady rain. I got out of line, and went to the store to get a rain coat for myself. Baby had raingear over his stroller, so he was ok. Bought the rain coat and decided I was hungry (it was 6pm by now.) Got food and saw the rain had stopped so I headed back to the room. Ate, then headed back out. It started to pour and lightning and thunder. I headed back to the room and waited for it to stop. By 7pm there was just a light rain, so I decided to put baby in a baby bjorn and got an umbrella and off we went to the boat. Luckily I got a seat on the center aisle. That was good, because the people sitting on the ends near the windows got soaked.
We got to DTD around 8pm. I could not find DS or DH so I called the room with my cell phone. They had just got back to the room. They got back in the car and picked us up at DTD. We went back to PORS and parked at the main building to get refills. We listened to the piano guy then went to the food court for a bite to eat.
On Sunday morning, I fed the baby. Then he and I headed over to the quiet pool and went swimming. Everyone was amazed at how much he loved the water. He splashed around for an hour then we went back to the room and packed up our stuff. We drove to Crossroads for lunch and ate at Red Lobster. Then we headed over to Epcot to get a picture of the baby with Santa Claus. Our 1st stop was at the baby center. Then we were off to world showcase. As we passed Norway we decided to check out the wait time for Maelstrom. It was only 10 minutes, so we got in line. The baby actually enjoyed the ride. He was very interrested in the lights. He didn't mind the little hills on the ride. We skipped the movie and headed over to Japan to see the candy lady. I stopped at the American adventure to get a gingerbread man cookie, then met them at Japan. As I got there the candy demonstration was just ending. So we decided to hang around and wait for the next one. DS and DH waited for the next candy demonstration and I took a sleeping baby back to the american adventure to wait for Santa. Just before it was our turn with santa, ds and dh showed up with a candy shark in hand! We all got our picture taken with Santa. We headed over to the Land to grab some dinner. Then we went to see the tree lighting ceremony. After that, it was off to see our Santa picture. They got great, we bought 2. DS had school the next day, so it was off for home!
We had a great weekend. We look forward to our next 2 weekend trips, Jan 21 at PORS and Feb 4 at Pop Century!
