I have a question for those of you who go during thanksgiving...we will be coming to wdw for the first time next Nov. to be exact we will be flying out on Thanksgiving night...Im from CA so its a coast to coast trip...being that none of us are used to the time zone and depending how this gas thing goes, we may have to change planes at some point....so let me state that I am FULLY aware of the "a request is just a request and we cant be guaranteed anything" but what do you think the chances are, if I fax in a letter and indicate upon making a reservation that we really need to have a room as early as possible, that it would happen? We will have at the time a 4yo, 6yo and 9 yo and their sleep is going to be broken up as it is and I know we're in for serious meltdown issues...

If I'm right you are asking if you can check in and get a room first thing in the morning. Is this correct? Also, where are you staying?

We also fly from Calif and unless you take a redeye I can't see you getting in before 3pm. The direct flights take 5 hours and then you have to add three hours for the time change.

That being said we did ask for early check in when we moved resorts on our last trip but did not get in until 3pm. They were so busy over thanksgiving. I think you can always ask and they will do what they can.

Hope you have a great trip

we are taking a red eye and being that its the day after thanksgiving, being busy is what Im worried about...i guess we can always pass out in the lobby:lmao:

There's a chance you'll be able to get your room right away -- probably more likely if you don't make other requests and tell them you'll take whatever becomes available first -- but I don't know that a fax will help. Mention it when you make the resservation, mention it again when you get there, be very nice to the CMs, cross your fingers, etc.

Otherwise, keep comfy clothes -- or swimsuits if it's warm enough -- in an easy-to-access bag. Drop everything you can with bell services, go get something to eat in the resort, and then park yourselves on pool chairs (even if it's not warm enough to swim) and take a nap. Hopefully, you're room will have opened up in the meantime.

I hope it all works out for you!

I had friend who packed their suits and went and sat by the pool when they got in. Only problem is the weather in Nov, but you might give it a try. I know the little ones can be wiped after the long flight.

While you may always make the request...Thanksgiving week is very busy at WDW. The truth is that it will depend if the resort you will be chenking in to had any vacancy's the night before your arrival. That's the only way the room would be ready when you arrive.

Good Luck.

I hear all of you...thanks so much for the replies....we are going to go in and expect the worse and hope for the best...we're also going to do our best to stay up all day even if the kids dont make it and have to take naps...that way we can have an early night and I am going to try to get as much sleep as I can a couple nights beforehand so its not as bad for me when I get there....

We've gone the last three years exactly like that a red eyer from Wa state coast to coast just like you!! We leave thanksgiving day again this year at 10:30pm to arrive in FL at 7:30am friday (or 4:30am to us!!) but we take a non stop flight which gives us at least 6 hours of sleep straight. My DD10 has been doing this since she was 4 and we hit the ground running when we get there check in at POP and go to DTD then dinner at chef Mickeys and finish the night at EPCOT get back to the room at midnight!!! :cool1: :cool1: We have unfortunately because of the time of year never had our room ready but all of our other faxed in requests have always been met instead, I guess it was a trade off and we just got used to going "disney commando" from the start!! :rotfl2: Good kuck and I hope you have a wonderful time when you get there no matter what the turn out is! I can hardly wait until november!!

We had a similar issue when we flew in from Australia into LAX on our way to WDW. We decided to stay at DL for a few days to acclimatise. We arrived at 8.30am after a 15 hour flight and time zone changes. We checked in although room was not ready and hit the CA straight away.

We kept the family going until 8.30pm that night including 2 DD aged 5 and 8. Then we crashed for 12 hours sleep woke the next morning pretty much ready to go and spent another day in DL and acclimatised to the time change.

Where are you staying? That will really help with us being able to give you advice.

For example, if you are staying at Pop Century, the lobby is not the place for you to unwind at all. It's always busy and loud. So is the main pool. You would want to move out to the bowling pin or computer pool. Or even better, go towards the lake and lay on the grass out there.

But, if you are staying at the Animal Kingdom Lodge, those chairs and couches in the lobby are to die for. You can sleep forever there.

I will be staying at ASMu.....

The lobby isn't going to be good for you. Too noisy.

I'd go back to the piano pool which is directly out the back doors of Melody Hall and all the way back at Country Fair. There will also be grassy areas around Country Fair. This area is away from the parking lots and all the way at the back of the property.
