Cast: me -40yo WDW enthusiast; DW -34yo WDW enthusiast; DD -7; DS -celebrating 5th b-day on this trip
Friday, 11/19
Just days before we were to leave DS comes down with a stomach virus. He seemed better by Thursday night so we went ahead with plans. We were up and gone by 5:30am, fired up about the trip. Kids both did great on the drive down, watching a couple of movies and sleeping just a bit. One of our nice neighbors made treat bags for the kids to open as we crossed each state line. Theye were based on things grown in each state -NC apples; SC peaches; GA peanuts; and FL oranges. Those bags and treats were good for several minutes entertainment each.
We hit a nasty traffic jam in Orlando that slowed us down when we were oh-so-close to the World. In due time we were pulling into WDW. The sight of that "Welcome" sign never fails to move me. We checked in to All Star Music with no problem and no delay.
A side note about AS Music: The place is looking a little rough. We stayed in Jazz #2 and noted several things that were just below standard. I know one gets what one pays for at value resorts. But we noted large mildew patches on teh drums in front of the building. I know this is Florida and all, but they looked like they hadn't been scrubbed in a looooong time. Speaking of mildew, there was lots of black in the shower. The carpet was getting a bit threadbare. The telephone had a brown stain all over the face of it. None of this precluded us enjoying the vacation, but it seemed sort of un-Disney like.
We decided to head over and check out the Christmas decorations as the monorail resorts. Grand Floridian was beautiful. The kids especially liked the large gingerbread house. The Poly was neat too. As we walked from the GF over to the Poly we sat out on the lagoon and watched Wishes. Wow! How beautiful. It was a great prelude to the parks for us.
We had a leisurely supper at Captain Cook's snack bar and headed back to AS Music in anticipation of the next day at MK.
On a scale of 1-5 I give this day
