I got late notification that I got tickets to see 'Ellen Degeneres' tape her show in NYC today! The taping is next Tuesday and we are busy planning the trip.

Not sure whether to stay till Wed or Thursday?? Will Wednesday be nuts at the airport etc and will everything be closed Thursday such as the Empire State Bldg etc???

Many thanks!!

Can you get a hotel room even? Wednesday will definitely be nuts at the airport. I think it's a safe bet that Thursday will be also, but probably not as bad. Sounds like fun! Make sure to tell us all about when you get back.

The airports will be crazy but I think most touristy things will be open.

Empire State building observatory hours:
Thanksgiving Eve and day - 8am - Midnight Last elevator at 11:15

Myst

That's good...

While 2 of us have been before one hasn't and she'll want to see the touristy things!! She wants to go to Canal street too and get a 'purse' Just want to make use of the day if we stay there!

Just remember you have to sort of avoid areas unless you are going to the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade! It creates a TON of traffic because the parade route is long. Go if you can but be warned, you have to get there at 6:30am or so for a spot near the curb (where you can see) but it is amazing fun... my family goes every other year

If you are there on Wednesday night be sure to go and watch them blow up the Macys Thanksgiving parade balloons over by the museum of natural history! We are going in on Tuesday for the Radio City Show we are going back in on Wed to see the balloons again this year. I put in for Ellen tickets for Monday but guess I didn't get them :(

Oh lucky you!!!! I was hoping I would get tix but I haven't heard anything. How long ago did you request the tix? How were you notified? E-mail? Oh well, I guess I'm out of luck, lol! Have a great time in the city-try to see a show if you can. Go to the TKTS booth in Times Square(they have a website with info-I'm not sure what it is, just google TKTS)for discount tix. You can also check Broadwaybox.com for some ticket codes. Have a blast-say hi to Ellen for me :cool1:

First off - I saw a taping of Ellin in LA earlier this year and it was a lot of fun - great show - she is really funny! I was one of the few guys in the audience though = )

As for when to leave - Stay out of the airports on the Wed. Espicially if you are flying into LGA - that airport can not handle large crowds very well. Your best bet is Thursday Morning - probably will be a lot calmer.

There will be plenty of things to do - Wed night before thanksgiving is the best night of the year to be out. All the Christmas decorations will be up along 5th avenue - they are fixing the windows in Sacks right now. Also, I just walked by at lunch - the Tree is up and the Star is in place - Im sure you will be able to see that as well.

Stay the extra night! IMO of course - Good luck and let me know how it goes!

Where are they taping the show? in a theatre in Manhattan?

Have a great time!!

cool, i wish I would have gotten tickets. Wednesday at the airport will be a mahouse. I'm flying out of LGA Thursday morning, I'm hoping it won't be as bad.

You would be surprised, but this is not true, Thursday is CRAZY in the morning. Early afternoon it drops off. :)

Really - that is shocking - well then maybe the OP should hang out in the AM - watch the parade and catch an early afternoon flight home :teeth:

I'd say Thursday afternoon is your best bet at the airport, by afternoon or evening, anyone traveling "home" for T-Day will be AT home by then, stuffing themselves full of turkey! If you can swing another night, Friday all day should be quiet, as most people who fly for T-Day will stay until Saturday, Sunday or Monday, most people will want to stay longer at Gradma's house than just 1 night (unless they REALLY can't stand their family :teeth: ).

Good luck, and have great time!
