Hello All:

One of our planned trips to DisneyWorld this year falls over Thanksgiving as such I was wondering if anyone here had spent the Thanksgiving Holiday at Disney and if so what did you do for that special Turkey day dinner.

We have a large group of friends and family (15 adults and 6 kids all under 4) going so if you have been there and done something special on this holiday for dinner I would welcome your experience, insight and/or suggestions because I'm sort of at a loss as to what to suggest to our group.

Thanks in advance!

Thanksgiving is our favorite timeof year to go to Disney. For the first few trips we ate at Liberty Tree Tavern in Magic Kingdom. It's a very Thanksgiving-like dinner (ham, turkey, mashed potatoes) and you get that same 'I can't eat another bite' feeling just like you would after a Thanksgiving meal at home. The atmosphere (colonial times) really works and the food is served family-style so it feels very homey.

After a few years, though, we did need a change so we went over to Wilderness Lodge and ate at Whispering Canyon Cafe. The lobby is unbelievable and puts you into the rustic, wilderness-y, log cabin frame of mind. The dinner is served family style and again, there's enough to eat to keep you full for days. It's nice to watch the bubbly stream through the lobby or to sit in front of the huge fireplace while you're waiting for dinner (and there's a lincoln log table for the kids). The antics in the restaurant may not be for everyone but we loved them. And my kids loved the horse race around the restaurant and lobby.

Just my opinion. Have fun! :sunny:

We have gone two times over Thanksgiving, stayed at BCV, with out family of 15. Both times we ate at Cape May. We may have gone to Liberty Tree Tavern but if not everyone was at the Magic Kingdom that day, then travel time became an issue, not to mention that weather could come into play.
Cape May was near our rooms and our “home base” which made it an easy choice.
For a party of your size, you have to remember that finding a table to seat all of you may not be possible. I was told that 16 was the max at Cape May.

Your reservations should be made ASAP for a party of that size so that you can pick your time of day.

Wish we were going back again this year...have fun!

Interesting, I was asking the same question on another BB (to which I am apparently not allowed to post a link), as we are also planning our Thxgiving ADRs now. I got a bunch of good responses, including last year's menus from a number of WDW restaurants:

DW wants something on the traditional side, and is looking for Fancy, so I think we've narrowed it down to Le Cellier or Flying Fish. Both of these should be easy since we're staying at our BWV home, and were planning to take it easy Thxgiving day. When I called Disney Dining last night to check our 180 day mark (my answer was the 24th, based on my arrival day), I also asked which restaurants had Thxgiving menus out this early; I heard menu selections for both Chef Mickey's and Le Cellier (apparently Flying Fish wasn't out yet).

Good luck with you planning, and we might just see you there (amidst the throngs of other Thxgiving WDW goers...)

We ate Thanksgiving dinner at AP. Beautiful atmosphere, wonderful service, great food, There was a choice of 3 for appetizer, salad, entree, and dessert. I had the turkey with a great cranberry stuffing and butternut squash soup.

We had Thanksgiving dinner at Chef Mickey's. We were a group of 12, seven adults and 5 kids. Every one had a great time. What was nice was because it was a buffet, those who like the traditional Thanksgiving foods were covered, and those who aren't all that into turkey and all the fixins were also good.

If you want dinner in your villa, I suggest Publix.

The last few years of my Grandmother's life my mother and I did the Publix catered Christmas Dinner. (Neither of us lived in the same city she did and she found it VERY stressful for us to cook in her kitchen...) I picked it up the day prior and just followed the directions. It was very easy and good. Plus you get leftovers.... You order based on the size of your party..

We are also going for thanksgiving and are considering WCC! We are staying at WL! I am intrigued by Chef M also! Would love to know what kinds of foods were offered?? Traditional turkey and dressing?? :Pinkbounc

We haven't been down there yet for Thanksgiving, but my first thought when I read your post was Liberty Tavern in MK. I would think that any of the character dinners would be fun, especially since you have children in the group. Cape May has terrific food, but I don't think that lunch/dinner are character dinners. Crystal Palace, Chef Mickey's and Garden Grill are favorites of ours, even though our children are older now. Can't beat Winnie the Pooh (Crystal Palace) visiting you on Thanksgiving! GF has some wonderful character dining, too--why don't you check the menues on allearsnet--they might have holiday dinners listed.
Have fun!! We'll make it down there for T-Day one of these years, too :yay:

We are going again at Thanksgiving this year, and staying at VWL. I'm thinking of doing Thanksgiving at the Fort, at the Fort Wilderness campground. I guess it is like Mickey's Backyard Barbeque, but with Thanksgiving food. I'd be interested in hearing if anyone has ever tried this?

Pumpkinboy...
How far in advance can you make dining reservations, 180days out? We will be there for Thanksgiving too, arriving the 21st. I think we will opt for Cape May Cafe since we will be staying at the Beach Club. Thanks for any info.

We were at the Beach Club last Thanksgiving (a group of 12) and we ate at the Yacht Club Galley. It was excellent! A very nice Thanksgiving buffet with a very nice selection! We made an early ressie (1:15)...got seated immediately, ate and then spent the rest of the afternoon out by the pool. If I remember correctly, the price was not too bad either.
