Thanksgiving get-together at HHI-plans on hold

Depending on what happens with MS tomorrow, other people may have to plan their own get-togethers. We checked in tonite only to discover that the last 3 nights(which were supposed to be on Members'Cash)somehow got cancelled. Since we had already booked our flights,I definitely wouldn't have done that and left us without a place to stay for the last 3 nights of our vacation. The front desk said they'd work with us, but they said they're bookedsolid,so I can't expect them to pull a room from thin air. So here we sit, not knowing where we'll be for the last 3 days of Thanksgiving week. DH is fuming, and I know I won't sleep much tonight. Not a good start!

That's terrible. I hope it works out for you. Whenever we've booked weekend nights with cash, we've always been given a reservation number for that too. Do you have one?

I'd be calling Member Satisfaction and asking for them to find you ANY accommodations ANYWHERE near there on their dime! That kind of "boo-boo" is inexcusable!

Well, MS finally called back. They've found us rooms here, but we may have to move each night. Meanwhile the front desk is still working on it as reservations get cancelled at the last minute. As of now, we move from this 1 BR to a studio Tuesday nite, then from the studio to a 1 BR Wednesday nite, then to a 2 BR Thusday nite (a 2 BR is sort of overkill for 2 people, but it's an experience). MS seemed kind of hopefull that we might not have to move by the time Tuesday comes. Meanwhile it's off to the Pig for a week's worth of food (keeping in mind that we may have to move it 3 times). We're going tostay here -that's 90% of the battle! I wonder how rooms materialized, but I won't think about it too much.

I just saw rooms on Travelocity for Saturday at least. A studio is only $106. How much is the member price?

Also on a side note, are there any special activites going on for Thanksgiving? We are thinking about going there next year at this time.

I continuously check my reservations at the DVC member site to make sure nothing changes with them. My plan is to catch any potential errors by MS before they become a huge problem. So far, I haven't had anything weird happen with my reservations but I read enough of these posts at the DIS to know that odds are that eventually SOMEthing will get screwed up. I watch like a hawk.

That would work on points ressies, but ressies on member's cash don't show. So I'd have no way of knowing whether the ressies for those days were "there", but not showing, or cancelled. Oh,and bunny, the Member's price is less than that-if I remember, it was less than $90 for a studio, and about $125 for a 1 BR. But I told DH that this screw-up was a message that we need to buy more points.
Well, off to pick up our SeaPines pass.

I'm also a fanatic about checking my reservations on the website. I check every day to make sure everything is okay and to see if any of my waitlists came thru. Like you said in your post about something getting screwed up, I have personal experience with that!

I booked a last minute weekend vacation, Fri til Tues, a couple of weeks back for Dec 5 til the 9th. Nothing was available ofcourse, but I went on the waitlist for all 4 nights at any 1 bdrm on property. I kept calling MS, about 8 times a day, to see if I could get 2 consecutive nights together (the 5th and 6th or 7th and 8th). A few days later I was able to get the 7th and 8th in a standard view studio at BWV and a few days after that I was able to get the 5th and 6th at SSR in a 1 bedroom. Great! I was still on the waitlist for the 4 consecutive nights so that I wouldn't have to change resorts, plus we preferred a 1 bedroom. One morning last week, I called a little after 9:00 am to see if my waitlist came in and it had not. I asked MS to check availability for the first two nights at BWV in a studio or, alternately, the last 2 nights at SSR in the 1 bedroom. Guess what? She said "oh, I have all four nights at BWV in 1bedroom pref view". So, she booked the reservation and then she checked to see what was wrong with my waitlist, because I should have gotten this via the waitlist. Every possible 1bdrm category at all the resorts was in there, EXCEPT the 1 bedroom pref/garden view at BWV! So, I'm glad I checked. I would suggest that you check on your waitlists periodically to make sure they are set up correctly, especially the ones that are longer and more extensive.

Me too... I can't imagine they don't hold back something for this type of situation. Otherwise, yeah... get me booked somewhere else. What a horrible stress to have on your vacation. Good Luck. Please let us know what shakes out.

The Sea Pines pass was there-Thanks! We went right to the Salty Dog Cafe for dinner. We both had she-crab soup. Originally, just DH did, but once I had a taste of it, I ordered some too. Today, DH golfed the Cupp course, and I rode along in the cart, trying not to freeze my ****off while birding. Cupp course is a nice course, not too challenging, DH described it as a "good resort-type course." Then we went to the Sea Shack for lunch. Their butternut squah shrimp bisque sounds strange, but it was very tasty. I liked their fish and chips, not overly breaded,lots of fresh fish. And a BIG thumbs up from DH for their blueberry key lime pie (another strange-sounding combination,but excellent). We've meant to go there, and I'm so glad we finally did. I'm still full-no dinner for me tonite! Oh,and there's now a brochure available in Big Murgie's Den, showing all the resort prices for all the different size villas. Nice to peruse while having warm apple cider and cranberry nut cookies! Hope it warms up for George Fazio golf and birdwatching on Monday.
