What time do you eat on Thanksgiving Day?

We eat at 1:00. Then watch football and play outside with the Grandkids. Usually we have a late dinner of leftovers before everyone leaves.

We eat at 2pm.

Both DH's & my families eat around 4pm. We snack all afternoon long while chatting, cooking, watching football & for the kids, playing video games.

We usually aim for 4 but eat closer to 5.

We try for 1 but it's usually 2.

Our husbands (my husband's brothers/family) started a tradition back when I was dating him. They got guys together and played football in the morning while we cooked. It was nice to get them out of the house/kitchen and us gals all chit-chatted and read the newspaper ads and made plans of where to go first on Black Friday. Now it's my kid's friends and their dad's, they all meet up at the college football hall of fame and use the astroturf in front and play football (not as messy as the school yard/park). Sadly we're missing one family this year, they moved 8 hrs away. Two years ago they had Kenny Rogers stop and watch them play.

Our feast is usually around 3ish pm. Our extended gathering usually consists of families from all sides, so this allows plenty time for dessert, adults chit chatting and cousins enjoying each other. Then by later pm we'll all be ready to munch on turkey sandwiches! Can't wait for my fave holiday! :goodvibes

DH works on Thanksgiving so he gets home around 4 and we eat right around then. He has to be in on Fridays at 4 am so we eat as early as we can.

We gather at 1pm and sit down at 2pm. We usually run fairly on time. It's rare that dinner goes out more than 15 minutes late.

Most folks have a fairly long drive, so the out of towners are usually out by 6ish.

We try for 1 PM. One DB & DSIL go to her family's for "dinner" later. Older DS& DDIL go to her family's later too.

I can usually get everything together and ready to eat somewhere between 1:30 and 2pm. I try to get as much of it cooked the day before as I can, leaving my oven open for those things that MUST be cooked at the last minute, like a souffle or something. After dinner we break out the Christmas tree. We do not like football so we put on some sappy movies and decorate the tree. I bake cookies while the kids are wrassling with the lights. Their friends run in and out, helping and watching TV with us. It's a lot of fun and we wouldn't have it any other way.:lovestruc

We go to a local hotel with some friends where we spend the night and play in the amazing pool. We usually check in around 1 or so.

We get our kids their own room (20, 18 & 11) when they were younger we had them in adjoining rooms, then on the same floor and last year we were on 8 and they were on 5 :cool1:

The adults meet for appetizers and cocktails (that we bring) usually around 3 and the kids go swim, then we head downstairs to dinner at the amazing buffet around 5.

We then play in the pool until around 10, the kids head to the arcade til midnight, then they rent a movie in their room. Meanwhile the adults have cocktails and head off to bed.

We all meet for breakfast the next morning.

We have been doing this with our friends for several years and we all really look forward to it and thoroughly enjoy it. It is the one time a year where we can slow down, visit and enjoy each others company.

I like to eat around 2pm. That way you have the rest of the afternoon and evening to overcome that full feeling.

Which time?

I'm usually expected to sit down to no less than 3 family Thanksgiving dinners.

Then there's the work dinners....

And don't even get me started on christmas dinners...

:rolleyes2

Usually midday, it's more of a lunch/late lunch than dinner. Then we start the leftovers and sandwiches at dinner-time!:banana::banana:

First Thanksgiving meal ever at my house this year so I am pretty excited!

Dinner is normally planned for 3 pm. I put out the apps around Noon or 1 pm and that's when the parents usually show up. I prefer to do our visiting more before dinner while munching and prepping. After dinner, I like to relax and usually the parents go home shortly after the table is clear.

It's not that I don't like to visit, but I always have to work Black Friday and that can mean getting up as early as 3:30 am. :headache:
