I have a quick question for all the Disney experts, are the parks more crowded at Thanksgiving or Christmas. I was just curious. Also for those who have been, if I would opt to go at Thanksgiving, are the characters dressed in their holiday attire at that point. Just curious, thanks in advance for your help. :)

Hi,

Thanksgiving week is very crowded.

Christmas week is VERY CROWDED.

That's about the best way I can put it.....

But you'll have fun no matter what you decide!

I loved Disney at Thanksgiving. No desire to go on vacation at Christmas. We left Boston on Tuesday before Thanksgiving and the parks were very crowded leading up to the holiday-our last day was much less crowded (can't remember if it was Sat or Sun). If I did it again I would stay into the following week instead.

The decorations were very special...as well as the characters dressed in holiday attire.

So the characters are for sure dressed in their Christmas attire over the Thanksgiving holiday?? Just curious. :)

I have been over the thanksgiving holidays the last maybe 3 or 4 years.. and it has never been very crowded, and we love the Christmas decorations.

Christmas decor is up before thanksgiving day. And yep, you'll get characters in holiday attire. I'm trying to remember if it's that way before Tgiving day or not. It's been awhile since we were there that week, but I KNOW the day after it's all Christmas all the time!!!! :santa:

It has been quite some time for us but we went over Thanksgiving and:

1) decorations were all over
2) we saw the filming of an excellent Christmas show featuring a choir and lots of characters while at Disney marketplace
3) saw Goofy dressed as Santa at MGM
4) saw the Osborne lights (while they were on residential street - told you it was a while ago)

It was crowded, but not insanely so. I don't recall waiting really long for anything and we were traveling with my 2 nieces who were 8 and 4 and don't recall the waits getting to them so it couldn't have been too long.

I just checked the dates on my digital photos..The characters were all in holiday attire on Friday (We saw all the holiday characters at Epcot..the double decker character bus at Epcot, also decorated). At MGM Donald had on his winter plaid jacket/hat..very cute and Lilo and Stitch had poinsetta printed outfits. It was nice to get some different pictures.

Also at Epcot are all the Santa's from around the world.

Thank you for all the great replies, this really helps me a lot. Thank You. :thumbsup2

Remember that MVMCP starts before Thanksgiving this year so I would imagine the holiday decorations will definitely be up.

We opted to go the week after Thanksgiving, rather than the week of, to avoid the afore mentioned crowds.

Have fun!!

We used to go down the Thursday before Thanksgiving and leave the Friday after. It is a wonderful time to go! :goodvibes It starts getting a little crowded on Thanksgiving Day but even that is not bad. We changed to the week before Christmas which we did for 4 years. First 2 years were great! :cheer2: Temps in the high 70's all week. Second two years, UGH! :sad2: It was in the 30's and 40's all week both years!!! Guess what? We went back to the week before Thanksgiving!  AND WE CAN'T WAIT!!!! :dancer: party: :jumping1:

This is all great information, my next question is, I probably from the looks of it, won't be able to attend MVMCP, I would love to but they take that long break from the 17-27 and I would be coming home probably on the 26, so it wouldn't work. Anyway my question is, are there usually lots of characters out at this time of year?? Also has anyone ever seen any rare ones at this time of year, your help is greatly appreciated. Thanks so much. :)

You and I are so alike. I'm going the 18th-24th and dang it! There is no MVMCP and I can't tell you how disappointed I was when I found this out.
But, I am extremely curious about Holiday Characters as well.

We were there for Thanksgiving 2005 & 2003. Both years the characters were dressed for XMAS starting the Friday after Thanksgiving, but not on Thanksgiving or earlier. Of course, they may be doing something different this year.

I hope so.

Speaking of characters. I was there last Dec. 9-11ish.
I just wanted to share. About the characters that is. And their holiday attire.
They really just put scarves on some of them. LOL. Great pics though. But it made me chuckle to think that really sometimes all they do is add a scarf and viola! Christmas outfit.
