I have a few points that I need to used by November 2021. We booked a cruise leaving Thanksgiving weekend. I was going to book a few nights at WDW starting with the day after Thanksgiving. Is this a reservation that is going to have to be walked?

I was also thinking about booking a few week at WDW for that same time in case the cruise doesn't work out. How does it work if I need to cancel just a few days of a reservation later? Can you drop a few days?

It may depend on where you own. Some should not be a problem right at 11 months out. Others, if you want that special room that there are only a few of, or it's the newest and hottest, you may need to walk it. Seven months might be a problem.

I would anticipate massive, crushing demand for Fall 2021. There are so many extra points in the system, and bookings are relatively low for Fall 2020 and even Spring 2021 right this moment.

Right now, you can cancel without going into holding and you can unborrow. I would expect those rules to get rolled back, and no one knows when that will happen. But sure, months out you can move days around without consequence, assuming no holding or borrowing.

Unless you are trying for a very hard to get category, I think you should be okay,

Having said that, keep an eye out as you get closer to that time. If you start seeing things disappear for the beginning of a November, then grab when yoy can and walk,

If it is hard to get room, then I’d start watching starting for check in October.

I'm worried about this too. I'm looking at October 2021, 4 days std 2bds at both BWV and BLT. I'm thinking the fall of 2021 may be crazy...

I’ve wondered if the borrowing restrictions in 2020 will turn out to be a mistake in hindsight. Some people who would have borrowed all of their points into 2020 are being forced to leave half of them in 2021, where they will most likely be part of a major point glut. It may have been better to let people who wanted to use up all of those 2021 points do it while there is low demand.

Fall frenzy next year shall be redubbed Fall Crazy 2021.

The glut will be from the extra banked points from this year clamoring to be used next fall.

I’ll be one of those peeps- I’m already looking at bigger rooms bc of all my extra points. Lots of ppl in my boat...

Successfully booking DVC is a competitive sport.

We own at SSR. I usually wouldn't even give this a thought but between the 50th and all the extra points around it makes me nervous.

So I could book a week and then drop 4 days of reservation later? Or do I need the "new" dates to be available for booking? I am confusing the DVC rules with cash bookings I think.

In current Covid rules, you can change and unborrow at will. In the old rules, canceling within 30 days put your points into holding and borrowing changes use year. I would operate within the old rules, because they will come back at some point.

You can walk a reservation without touching the borrowing or holding issues.
