Thanksgiving 2005

Hi there

My DH and I will be in Orlando during thanksgiving this year and wondered if anyone could suggest something that we could do. I know that the parks will be sooooo busy but am not sure if they will be so bad we should not go. We would like to do something to get into the spirit of the day but not being American was wondering if anyone would be offended if we did. We are from just outside Glasgow in Scotland, thanks for any help.

Several of the on-site hotels have terrific Thanksgiving Day menus -- and a few even have characters visiting and cavorting

One of the most popular, I believe, is at the Swan/Dolphin, in one of their massive ballrooms. They have a fairly extensive buffet that begins around noon and has seatings through the afternoon and into the evening. Yes this does tend to be a busy weekend at the parks.
If you wish to eat anywhere on Disney property I would strongly suggest making a PS 90 days before your arrival. Otherwise your choices are extremely limited.
Pretty much all the restaurants on Disney property serve some form of the traditional THanks. meal (Turkey, Dressing, Cranberry Sauce & Pie).
Probably the most popular is the LTT. Guest want that colonial feel for the holiday and it will be the first to fill up.

As it list all of last years Thanks. meals and will give you a good idea for this year. It wont really change that much.
Some great places for Thanksgiving Day, Brown Derby, Trails End, Boatwrights and Yachtsmans Steakhouse. We have celebrated the holiday at all of these locations and it was very good.

I suggest going in the evening to see the Osbourne Lights at Disney Studios...may be crowded, but its outside, not really any wait lines.

We went for Turkey Day 03 and I tried to make some PS ressies two days after the 90 day window opened and I was shut out. We stayed off site that year at the Marriott World Center. They had a wonderful buffett dinner and it wasn't too expensive either.

When you say "shut out" do you mean that none of the resturaunts were available for Thanksgiving dinner, or just the 1 or 2 you were considering? We're going to WDW for Thanksgiving 2005, for the first Thanksgiving trip and we have no idea what to expect as far as making PS is concerned.

By shut out I mean I tried to get several character meals but the only times that were left were really bad or not existent. We were able to get some regular sit down meals scheduled like Boma, Yacht Club, and our T-Day dinner. I would defintielty try and book at the 90 day window if you know you want something hot.

I went last Thanksgiving and the one thing I found MOST helpful was getting to the parks when they open! I got to the Magic Kingdom to see the opening ceremonies and then "poof" I was off and running! I actually rode Buzz Lightyear, Indy Speedway, Winnie the Pooh (I believe) and Mickey's Philharmagic all in my first hour of the park opening! Whew! It was worth it!

I also used fast pass and really did not realize any major crowd issues. Using fast pass sure was a plus!
