I have been avoiding this site just because I can't bear the thought of no WDW in the forseeable future. It has been a long, very cold New England winter with more to come. I guess it is time to warm up with thoughts of our Thanksgiving trip to Disney!

The week prior to our vacation was to be one of thoughtful preparation. You know, surfing all the great Disney sites and making last minute notes. Laundry, packing and generally running all those last minute errands.

Hah!

The Saturday prior to our departure we were awakened by what we thought was an animal in our garage attic. Something sounded like it was running from end to end. What was it? Branches breaking off the trees and falling onto the roof. A
freak ice storm had blown in and coated everything in a thick covering of ice. Trees all around us were snapping like twigs. They sounded like gunshots piercing through the still of the night.

Our power went out around 2 a.m. Sunday morning and was not restored until Thursday at 5 p.m. Our road was impassable. The kids missed three days of school, cutting into our six day allotment for snow days. It wasn't even December yet!

At my house, no power means no electricity, no furnace, no water, no washer or dryer, no television and no computer. We have a well. No electricity/no pump! My stove is propane and will light when the power is out with the help of a match. I was the dispenser of hot tea to all those who could get to our house. All surrounding northwest CT towns were in the same dilemma. NO POWER ANYWHERE!

We had a generator and so we were actually one of the lucky ones. We had intermittent heat, a quick shower (NO HAIR DRYER) and a freezer that stayed frozen. Did I mention no washer or dryer??? Many areas had power restored from Sunday on. You still couldn't get near a laundromat. My contingency plan had me packing up individual loads to be dropped off at relative's and friend's homes where power had been restored.

So went my idyllic week before our departure for Disney.

I did have the presence of mind to have my snow tires put on the van before we drove to the airport. Good thing! It snowed on the way to the airport. It snowed 8 inches the day before Thanksgiving and another totally unexpected 4 inches on the day after Thanksgiving when we returned home from Florida.

I did follow through with daily Disney surprises on the kitchen table. Little notes accompanied Disney trinkets I had stockpiled from the sale shelf at the Disney store or Big Lots.

Coming up... We're packed and ready to go!

So, who is going on this trip?? How many kids do you have? Looking forward to reading more-We will be going Thanksgiving 2003!
