I booked a fireworks cruise for my family as a surprise on the first night of our trip, January 3rd. Unfortunately, my youngest brother (who is 17) decided he didn't want to come and stayed at the hotel. Halfway through the cruise, he called my mom on her cell phone and said that he cut his finger badly.
Our wonderful driver John ran us back to the Contemporary, the nearest resort, and took my mom to the lobby desk. There, a front desk cast member (I wish I could remember her name!) called our hotel, had them get EMS to my brother, and then drove my mom in her own car to the All-Star Music, where we were saying. (My brother needed a few stitches, but was okay.)
Meanwhile, my mom didn't want me, my dad, and my other brothers to miss the rest of the cruise, so John came back and finished the cruise, complete with a breathtaking view of the fireworks. After the cruise was over, John felt so bad about my mother missing the fireworks that he offered to take us out for free on Friday the 5th. He said he would set it up and call me. I didn't hear from him, and assumed he couldn't work it out, that he was already booked. That was okay, because the emergency wasn't Disney's fault at all.
However, when we got back home on the 11th, we discovered that Disney had called to offer us the free cruise, but they left the message on our home phone instead of my cell phone. We were disappointed to have missed it, but really impressed that they offered.
All in all, it was an amazing experience, and John our captain, as well as all the other cast members involved were truly impressive.
