...I've been "lurking" online for the past few weeks and you're all great. This information is truly helpful toward understanding DVC and whether it's right for me and my family (yes, I am a newbie). The DVD we ordered online never actually came to us in NJ. But it sounds like it wouldn't have been useful anyway.

We've been coming to Disney for the past four years and regularly stay at the Contemporary or the Polynesian (love that monorail!!).

I have very little knowledge of DVC, so this is helpful and I just wanted to say "hello" (you'll start seeing my posts) and "thank you" for helping to educate me about DVC.

Please be patient if my questions or posts are silly as I'm still new to the DVC.

No questions are silly. Post away, we have lots of answers here. Or at least we THINK we do! :sunny: HANNAME!

Welcome!!! Also, hello neighbor - :wave2:. We have been a member since the beginning - ask away, people here are great and willing to share their experiences.

We are in Westfield NJ and joined DVC last year. We bought a resale contract at OKW that had about 750 points available. We went last year to VWL and are staying for 10 nights this year in October.

Ask any questions you like, we are here to help.

Welcome........... Everyone here is VERY HELPFUL and pretty SILLY at times too! HANNAME!!!!!!!!!

Welcome!! You've come to a great and wonderful place. :sunny:

Welcome aboard!

The essential place to start looking is the FAQ link at the top of the page.
And here is a thread that a lot of folks have contributed to which has a good bit of worthwhile information http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=778634

Although it is several pages long, and it does wander off course a time or two, there is a lot of good information throughout, so read the whole thing.

It is critical to do your own homework. Whether or not to buy DVC is an important family decision. It's good to get input from others, but it's important to have a sound base of knowledge which allows you to accurately assess whether that advice fits your needs or not.

Keep asking questions until you are satisfied you understand what you are doing. Two priceless sources of information are DVC guides and the realtors at the resale brokerages.

My advice would be to read the FAQ above and any info you get from DVC first, talk to a guide, talk to a resale broker, and then read the link I gave you.

When you go through all of that, you'll be ready to ask the questions which will help your family make the right decision.

Wow - Jim is the best at greating newbies isn't he? Good info there Jim!

Hiya Charming! Ask away, but remember, DVC Sales is no pressure and there have been many who have had very positive experiences with The Timeshare Store and its my understanding they would be just as easy to deal with. So, if it gets into a technical question, make sure you don't hesitate to ask them as well. I, for one, THINK I know more than I know :teeth:

That said.... :teacher: Whats on your mind?

Welcome to the boards neighbor!!! I'm over in East Windsor and DH makes the trip to Princeton Junction everyday for the train.

We looked at DVC in 1992 and finally bought in 2001. It's the best move we made. Lots of great people here, tons of great information. I find myself checking these boards 3-4-5-6 times a day!!!

Hi and welcome. It was only less than two months ago that I got sucked into the Dis, especially DVC Dis for the same reasons as you -- to educate myself about the program. These boards have been invaluable -- much better than the promotional brochures.

How did it turn out for us? Well, thanks to the DIS boards and TTS, we are now proud owners at BWV -- can't wait to go Home!

Do your homework, ask lots of questions (you'll certainly get answers here! more, perhaps, than you'd want sometimes). A question that you might prefer to search for rather than asking: can my 4-year-old that I snuck into the parks as a 2-year-old, save a row of pool-side seats for later, while refilling someone else's mug, during pool-hopping to Stormalong Bay, with the 8 people I'm staying with in a studio at "The Best" DVC Resort (because all the others DVC locations are terrible)?

Oh, and be very careful. This is a VERY serious place. No silly posts are tolerated. Ever. Just ask the talking horse. ;)

hanname!

Edited to add: I'm a former neighbor too! Used to live in Cranbury NJ and was one of those uppity prep school snobs at the place down the street from Princeton. Is the ice cream place that did blend-in's still in Princeton? Can't recall the name right now.

Welcome to the DIS! Lots of advice and experience here. Good luck and keep asking questions -- that is how we all learn.

Welcome! As stated before never hesitate to ask questions, that's what these boards are for. When we contemplated purchasing, the information I gathered was invaluable in makine our decision and continues to be a source of great news and information when we are away from "home".

Oh you are too funny! :rotfl:

And, I think the name of the ice cream place is Thomas Sweet?

Indeed it is! I can still remember my favorite: vanilla with fresh strawberries blended in. Thanks, senility must have set in early for me. (I also have fond memories of buffalo wings at Spring Street Cafe.)

You know, somehow I think I've derailed the thread. Were we supposed to be talking about DVC? I can't remember.
