Thanks for honking - I _know_ I can...

... turn right on red; I choose to wait for the green arrow. I know it's coming. I've been through this intersection five days a week for the last six months.

It's going to change as soon as the right-of-way traffic clears. Honest. I stopped just this side of the stop line, so the sensors know there's a vehicle waiting. Five seconds, tops - once there's no oncoming traffic and it's safe to proceed, of course.

Right on red is a option, not a rule.

Driving the speed limit is also an option and not a rule. Please don't honk at me if I drive under the speed limit while I am in front of you for miles and miles. lol :rolleyes1

I wouldn't. I would deduce that you are making an intelligent decision based on your own driving experience, familiarity with the road, driiving conditions, and other things of which I'm not aware. If you're driving too slowly for my comfort and I have an alternate route even if that route ultimately takes me longer but allows me to travel at the speed limit, I will use that. If I don't have an alternative and arguing with the talk show host (not on the phone, just to myself ;)) or singing along with the radio doesn't ease any tension I may experience, I will pull off the road and engage in an alternate activity until I presume you're far enough ahead of me that traffic delays simply CAN'T be ascribed to you.

On the other hand, if you stop in the middle of the main road/right of way even though the alternate traffic has both a stop sign AND a flashing red light and refuse to move until every vehicle from that side road has proceeded, every driver behind you - including me - WILL be honking. That's just plain dangerous.

Once more, I would like to point out that on March 8, 2010 (i.e. once in six months) in the time it took me to come to a complete stop, look to the left to assure myself that oncoming traffic had cleared, and turn my head to the right because that's the direction in which I intended to proceed - the green arrow appeared. Less than five seconds.
