Hi,

We've just returned from our vacation to California, and would like to say a big thanks to everyone who had answered the queries I posted, plus other posters whose information I hoarded away!!

We had four full days in San Diego staying at the Best Western on Shelter Island - great location, nice pool area, and walking distance of several restaurants.

We visited the Zoo Safari Park up at Escondido, took a Segway tour around La Jolla at sunset, took the Old Town Trolley Tour around the city, and a day driving around the area. Have to say we could have easily spent another 3-4 days in the area - a great location, and very easy to drive around (at least in late July/early August). Favourites were La Jolla and Coronado Beach - we are definitely considering returning in the future.

We then moved north to Anaheim via Carlsbad Premium Outlets :scared:, where we had three full days at Disney, plus a day when we visited the Newport Beach area (it was a Sunday so very, very busy), and an afternoon/evening at the Ventura Country Fair where we also caught Hall & Oates - a bargain for $12 admission!!

Thanks again to everyone who answered my queries and helped us have such a great vacation.

I was not one that helped, but we are planning our first trip to SD/DLR for next march and do many of the same things! I was wondering if 3 days in DL was enough? I'm trying to decide how to split 7 days between the two cities, when I really want to spend about 14! Thanks for any advice!

TBH, there was a lot in San Diego that we didn't get round to doing. Balboa Park could take two days in itself with the Zoo and the various museums.

I would say that three days would be enough for both the Disney parks. We managed to get a lot done by using Fastpasses and switching between the parks on our third day. We also found it useful that the hotel we stayed at (the Howard Johnson) was about a 10 mins walk from the entrance to the parks, so very easy to get back mid-afternoon for a swim/rest, and then get dinner at one of the restaurants along Harbor Boulevard.

Thanks! I'm starting to think we better save SD for when we have more time :(
