Ok I get home from my seminar today, and I turn on my computer and the virus scan runs and this is what I find:

thanksdisney.jpg

If you notice at the bottom it says it is from Pirates online. I use AVG free edition anti virus program.

Thank you so much Disney for suggesting I might like your new game, when you take the game I love away from me. :scared1: :headache: :scared: :sad2: :guilty:    :confused3 :confused3 I try the game, my character is slapped to the ground before she even has a title, and now you have infected my computer.

Ok, now can someone please tell me what I should do at this point. The AVG thing said it deleted the infected file. I am definetly going to delete the entire stupid pirate game, but what else should I do?

Should I be worried? :confused3

Fly :confused3

(Mods please leave this on the VMK board if you think others should be concerned about this, before trying this game)

hmm.. I've never seen that on my computer, but I have been playing pirates since beta. Could that have anything to do with me not having that?

uninstall pirates completely then run the virus scan again, and if it ask to delete the virus say yes.

Yea the other day sweet and I dl'd pirates, went in made characters or tried. I get an ALERT ALERT from my avast virus protection, and it caught a trojan from that site. So yea real nice Disney.

Good thing I hate pirates!

Thanks for the heads up!

Good luck with getting rid of it! Viruses SUCK :headache:

this seems to be a common occurrence for people using AVG, while you should remain skeptical until you can find out more, I think this is just the program that starts(launches) PoTC and you are getting a false positive from your AVG.

I don't think it's likely Disney would infect the computers of people from whom they are trying to get money.

reason for editing: ended my sentence in a preposition..oh yeah and spelling

try System Restore. reset it to a date before the virus infected your computer and you should be fine. it takes about a minute to do that and restart your computer.

by the way, if you are interested in sending some letters to disney on the subject of saving vmk, this is a strong argument on how the "replacements" for vmk are not going to work.

hope your computer gets better soon!

Well now we're really not going to join your other online games, Disney. So what do you think we should do when VMK closes?

I'm not entirely sure that it's Disney.. The programs I run is SUPERAntiSpyware (it's free) and McAfee. Neither of them have found this.

i think trojan horses also attached themselves to trusted files in order to sneak into your computer. so it is more than likely that disney had nothing to do with sending a virus to you. however, it is obvious that the disney program is not secure enough to protect its users from others that may take advantage of disneys name.

A system restore is a little extreme for this issue.

I say like others, uninstall the game delete the POTCO folder from your program files and run AGV again.
I use avast and it does not bring back anything on that file it could just be something in the programming that AVG does not like.
A Trojan is NOT a virus...you can read more about it here..
It really is no ham to your computer..

Interesting.. I usually use the free Avast antivirus, but I read this post and decided to download the AVG free antivirus.. and I ran a scan which came up with a Trojan Horse from Disney Online Pirates Online.

Ok I deleted the game and ran the virus scan again and nothing was there. Thanks for your help.

I am not sure why it only seems to show up on the AVG virus scan.

I am not sure if I want to download it try and play that game ever again.

This is a problem that started with the latest AVG virus update. The trojans name SHEUR.BHDX tells you it is not signature based, but heuristic (behavior based). I have already questioned AVG and they confirm that the file does have the characteristics of a trojan horse, but that does not necessarily mean it is. I have also notified Disney of this problem.

If you use AVG Free Antivirus version 7.5 there is no way around this error. However if you use the new version 8.0 you can just exclude the Pirates directory from being scanned.

Disclaimer - the above was written by Bob - I have no idea what he is talking about :confused3

thats just werid. Buti think someone is using POTCO to send out viruses

OMG That's It!!!!!! The first time i played POTC Online, i started getting viruses on my computer! The Person who is doing this is very rude :sad2:

Please understand, there is no person sending out viruses using POTC - it is the problem that Out said above - not an intentional virus.
