Hi Goofs,

Day after Halloween and all is quiet. We had close to 275 kids trick or treat at our house last night. This time, I was prepared! The houses on our street are closer together than others, plus we have a long straight run, so there is maximum candy to be had for less effort. Plus, we get lots of outsiders. It makes for a busy 2 hours.

Shan It is very normal to have doubts during taper. I remember when Cecilia was on the Goofs, she would suffer from "taper madness", as she put it. Try not to doubt everything--hard to do sometimes, but it really makes sense.

Ashleigh Congrats on your race. Beach running is tough!

I need to get out today for a run--didn't yesterday, no excuse other than running around (and wanting to watch some football!) It's cold here right now--29!

Maura

Congrats on your race, Ashleigh. Beach running always sounds like fun in theory, but reality is way different, isn't it?

Shan, I'm looking at starting a Galloway training group since we don't have one in my area. His marathon program does scare me a bit, but I guess I'll be giving it a go for my next race after Goofy. I look forward to hearing your thoughts.

Wow, Maura. That's a LOT of trick-or-treating!

I guess I'm back from my posterior tibial tendon injury. I did back-to-back runs (15 miles Saturday and over 7 Sunday), and my thighs are pretty sore. I have a bad twinge at the insertion point for one of my quads, but I was able to walk through it at an under 16-minute-mile pace yesterday. I hope it's nothing serious. Today it only hurts when I press on the area, so I'll just refrain from pressing on it.

Total mileage for October: 45.4 miles
ETA: I forgot we're doubling race mileage. That brings me up to 58.5

Mornin' Goofs,

Ashleigh - Great job with your race!

Maura - We live in a good trick or treating neighborhood too. I used to count kids and we had around 300 every year. People from the outskirts bring their kids here too. It was a fun but tiring night!

I had a Monster Dash 5K yesterday morning. It went pretty well. I kind of felt odd being one of the only people not dressed up though.

I finished about 50 seconds behind my PR and this course had a few hills so I'm pretty happy with my time. There were some raffles and a costume contest but I couldn't wait around to watch as I had to meet DW and DD for the start of our Halloween activities for the day.

My October miles were 113.8.

Hey Goofs!

October miles were 104.82. I'm still rehabbing, more or less, but no pain for the last couple of weeks, so I'm pretty sure I am on the right track again.

Ashleigh - Great job with your race. Someday, I want to try beach running - it sounds like such fun!

Steve - Sounds like a great race. Are you doing it again next year?

Maura - (I think you are the one who asked) - The river rock is replacing all the mulch that is on our lot. There was a fairly largish section in the backyard which still needs to be finished, and I am almost finished with the front. That would still leave the screened-in patio/one-season room/useless waste of space, plus filling in some small areas. I have maybe 3 cubic yards left to move, if that, and another order to 10 should get everything done. I probably won't order it until next year though.

192 miles & equivalents for me in October (including double for the marathon).

Maura

Steve - Sounds like a great race. Are you doing it again next year?

I would like to try but it depends on the day it falls next year. With a little one at home, we are really busy one weekends this time of year. It was a fun little race and was only $10 and supported a good local cause so I'd like to do it again though.

Hey Goofs! :grouphug:

October miles were 78.

So my first ever 20 miler this past Sunday went rather well!
Took me 4:23, overall pace was a tad slower than my 17 miler, but I'm happy enough with it. I'm trying to keep in mind I'm in this to finish and not beat myself up over my pace. I'm slower, chubbier and older - just trying to embrace that. :lmao:

Last 5 miles were extremely tough, knee didn't bother me up until that point and if DH wasn't there pushing me I could have easily gave up and walked it in. Came home and took an ice bath and later walked the neighborhood trick or treating. I think these two things really helped me cause I felt great the next morning! I'm in shock! I felt way more sore on my other long runs. :woohoo:

Sooo, DH and I looked over the Galloway program and I talked to a few people I know who use his method. I really have two more really long runs according to his program - 23 and 26. We have decided to do a 22 and a 24, then instead of three full weeks of taper, do a 14 miler two weeks before the full. I'm doing Galloway's to finish program, on his for time goal program he actually has a 14 miler two weeks before the race. I hope this works!

Really, I'm sold on his method because I have had knee problems for a few years now and I can't believe I have gotten this far. Plus, I'm way heavier than I was when I ran my last half. I thought these extra pounds would have held me back. True, I'm slower, but if I can finish this and not get swept I will be a happy camper.

155.3 miles of running for the month.
I will be dropping off drastically now that I only have a couple of 5k's to run for the balance of the year.

Shan Congrats on the 20 miles! And for feeling good afterwards. My first 20 miler I was miserable before, during and after! Hope the rest of your plan goes well--sounds like it will.

Jason Yeah, the end of the year is a bit of a mileage killer---unless you're training for Disney!

So I went to the gym to run 5 miles, but bagged it after 4. I think the TM is really beginning to get to me. I really should go outside to run--the miles don't seem as long! But I do like the gym for doing weights, yoga, etc. (And for just getting out). So I'll take today's workout. I really would like to make sure I run at least 15 miles a week for the next month or so until I'm ready to start ramping back up to train for the marathon.

Hope everyone is doing well on this post-election day. I am glad it's over. Now if they would all learn to "play well" with one another--and be reasonable--maybe we could get something useful out of them!

Maura

Hey, Goofs!

I had 54 miles in October. November is not off to a good start, however. I got strep throat  this week and have yet to get a run in. I am still pretty exhausted just getting through the day and my throat is still a little soar, even with the antibiotics. I will see how I am feeling after a good night sleep tonight and maybe get out on a short jog tomorrow. If not tomorrow, hopefully on Sunday. I need to start picking up the mileage a bit more now...the Princess 1/2 is only 4 months away!

Maura-I'm with you on the TM! It feels like the miles just drag by! Unfortunatly that is how I do most of my weekday runs...at 5:30 in the morning:crazy2:

Shan-Congrats on that 20 miler! Good luck with your upcoming long runs...those distances just seem so intimidating to me right now! I'm scared about making it to 13!

Rich-I don't know that I would call the beach run fun...but it was a neat challenge! I think if we could have run down near the water on the wet sand where it was packed down, it might have been easier. Most of the sand was dry and loose, especially the sand on the trail section, so it was very difficult. My legs were hurting for 2 days after!

Just added up my miles and it is a sad 22.2 for October. After running the F&W relay and taking a week or so off, it has been hard to get back into training. But I'm training for my first half now! I'm on week 11 out of 40! So the mileage will be increasing!

Hope everyone has a happy fall! Saw my first snow flakes yesterday:goodvibes

Happy Turkey Month all!

71 miles for me for October. Certainly down from the 155 a couple of months ago. October did have my marathon, the furthest I've ever run, but since then its been a struggle to get the motivation. Watching today's NYC marathon made me resolve to get my butt out there and start making the time to run again. Hope everyone stays healthy and happy this month and doesn't over indulge in all the seasons yummy offerings.

Jeanne

Another back-to-back weekend done. Seventeen miles on Saturday and 9 on Sunday. My TNT coach tweaked her ankle recently, so we've been doing our Sunday "runs" as mostly walks, with the goal of not dropping below a 16-minute pace. I'm a SLOW walker, but I was able to keep the miles faster than sweep pace for two Sundays in a row and that is a huge confidence booster. I feel better than I did after last weekend's back-to-back, despite going two additional miles each day this weekend. Guess that means I'm getting stronger! :)

Kim That's great that you can do back-to-backs. I have never done those before.

Jeanne Our little trick....double the milage for races. So your 26.2 is actually 52.4!

Bettina Hey....I saw those flakes too! Not too many fortunately.

Ashleigh Hope you're better by now. And don't worry, you have plenty of time to get the miles in.

As for me....a marathon of another sort yesterday....driving 750 miles w/dog to visit my mom/family in MA. Believe me, it is just as tiring. Ran into some nasty weather near Albany--snow, slush slow driving. Yuch. But I made it in good time and my mother is in heaven seeing the dog (her "great grand-dog", she calls him). At 86, it's the little things in life that bring joy.

May not get in any runs, but will take the dog for some long walks.

DISboards WISH racing team members....

If you are interested in the order for WISH Racing Team Headsweats hats and or visors please go to the following thread to place your order.
http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2537249
I have to have a minimum amount of orders to place an order, so this is usually only done ONCE a year.
If you want a WISH Racing Team hat/visor for the up coming year's races, now is the time to get one.
I need the minimum order placed by November 20th to get everyone's hats/visors to them by WDW January Marathon weekend.

Thanks,
Tracy

Jeanne Our little trick....double the milage for races. So your 26.2 is actually 52.4!
Maura

Ok so Maura says I can double my mileage for races, so add 26.2 + 3.1 (I did a fun 5K two weeks after the marathon to benefit a local Boys&Girls club)to my October total of 71 for a NEW total of 100.2.

Thanks Maura for letting me know the trick!

Still working on the motivation here. Although the weather is calling for 60 degree days for the next couple of days, which is GREAT:woohoo: for upstate NY in November. So maybe that will motivate me a bit.

Thanks!
Jeanne

Hello Goofs,

Can't believe November is almost half over and Thanksgiving is just around the corner. Time is flying by for me. I will have to go back and read through the thread but congrats to everyone who has been racing and getting their miles in. Its been cool for us here in FL in the mornings so its a big change from walking in 90 degree weather at 8am!!

I decided to sign up for the 5K only this January instead of the half. I've done it twice already and signed up for the Princess 1/2 again, its the same course and I dislike it very much! Anyways, I was able to sign up for the January 5K, a local 5K in December and a distance dare of a back to back 10K and then 5K this weekend for less than the cost of the half marathon alone. Crazy!

Hope everyone is doing great and staying injury free!!

Hey Goofs!

I am still on the road to recovery - not hurt, but trying hard to make sure that it stays that way! I am reintroducing the Vibrams, but keeping those runs to only a couple of times a week for the time being. Hope to be back to long runs (ie, those of an hour) by the end of the month.
