That's what the Arby's employee said to me today when I picked up shakes for my sons. :headache: She was about 17 or 18.

It just annoys the heck out of me. I'm sorry, but I think it's incredibly rude. I am not 10 years old, neither am I 90. Please do not call me sweetie unless we are very close friends (and I'm upset), immediate family, or are intimate!

How do you feel about this?

You're lucky. Today at the physical therapists, an old man told me I was prettier than a new mule.

WTH??

:lmao: One time in a bar a guy told me I was cuter than a speckled pup. I say we take them as compliments.

I'd rather be called sweetie than ma'am.

Doesn't bother me. I don't like it but it's not the worst thing people can say. At least s/he said something though...

Considering some of the things I get called at my place of work, someone calling me sweetie wouldn't bother me in the least.

I swear I think I'd rather be called a *&%&^$ than Sweetie or Honey from someone I don't even know.

To me Ma'am denotes that I'm old

lol I'll have to keep my son away from you, then. He calls all women 21 and up ma'am and all men sir. My husband even calls me ma'am sometimes.

I think it was probably just a speech mannerism that she uses with everyone to be pleasent. I wouldn't be bothered by it.

As long as there is no sarcasm or malice involved I don't care what someone calls me. I just don't see the point in taking offense when someone is trying to be nice.

Sweetie doesn't bother me in the least. Of course, I would probably not have heard her because I would have passed out from the shock of hearing someone say "thank you"!

I don't really mind it but when someone young calls me that all I can think of is "I'm only in my 30's, you can still call me Miss". I am wondering if the woman, or I should say girl that waited on you was on autopilot and just said it, not that it makes it right though.

I understand that her intent was probably not to offend, and that's why I don't say anything to people who do it. I still think it's rude and disrespectful. I mean, they wouldn't say that to a bank president who they're asking for a loan.
