I took my camera to the granddaughter's birthday pool party this past weekend. Everything was packed up in my Pelican 1519 -- including the brand new Canon EF 100-400mm F/4.5-5.6L IS USM I hadn't even taken a single shot with yet. As I was getting out of the passenger side of the car, I heard the hatch open, followed by a THUD... thump, thump, thump.
"Oh, please don't tell me that was what I think it was," I said as I slowly walked to the back of the car. Yep. There was the camera case sitting in the middle of the parking lot behind the car. Driving with my other half is akin to being on Mr. Toad's Wild Ride, and the case had apparently shifted to be resting against the hatch.
Everything is insured, so I tried to keep from panicing. I was loath to explain to the insurance company, though, why I was filing a claim within a month of buying the coverage.
Turned out that I didn't need to. Everything was fine and dandy when I opened the case. Shelling out the $240 for the Pelican suddenly seems a lot less painful.
