Thank you cards

We send out thank you cards only for gifts that didn't come from family and for those that were unexpected. I usually find some great ones that say thanks for the Christmas gift and Happy New Year all in one.

If we are with the gift giver when we open the gift, then no we don't. Otherwise I do and I have my 3 boys write them also. In fact, I won't let them use the gift card, cash the check, etc. until a thank you is written. I do allow the boys to make a phone call or send an email (if appropriate) rather than write a note. I have always told them that if someone take the time and money to give them a nice gift, a thank you needs to follow. It may be an old-fashioned way of thinking but I feel it's very important.

The boys are now 20, 16 and 14 so I can only hope this is something they'll continue to do on their own.....

I don't send cards if I open my gift in front of the giver. But, if it came in the mail or via another person (my aunt brought my cousins presents this year since they were unable to celebrate with us) I will send a card!

We are sending Thank You cards to those who sent gifts from out of town. I don't normally send them for the gifts we open in front of the giver because we say our thank yous directly to them.

I agree with the previous posters. If I open a gift in front of the giver, then I give my thanks then.

I sent out a thank you note for a gift that my niece gave me. We were on the road and she wanted me to wait to open it when I got home.

I also sent an e-mail thank you to my SIL who hosted our Christmas get-together in her home. I usually send a written one to whichever sibliing's turn it was to host that year but since I was sending her an e-mail about something else, I included my thank you in the e-mail.

I am with all the other posters. If I am not in the person's presence when I open a gift I send them a thank you card afterwards. I figure if I already said thanks to the person who was with me when I opened it I don't need to rethank them.

I always send thank you cards to every one for gifts received for any occasion.

We usually send thank you's regardless of whether we were with the giver when it was opened. Completing those is on my agenda for the day!

Add me to the camp that we only send Christmas/Birthday thank you cards if the giver is not present when we open them. We always make sure to thank the giver when opening and again when leaving. We do have one family member who is very formal so we always send her a written thank you regardless or else we would never hear the end of it.

I myself hardly ever receive thank you cards for anything and have the time receive minimal verbal thank yous if present, so I think we go above and beyond with our thanking.

If someone cared enough to give us a gift or invite us to a party/dinner/their home, then a thank you card is sent.

Even our little relative who can't do more than print his name was able to choose preprinted thank you notes.

Manners never go out of style.

Yes, as a matter of fact, DD just finished them this morning & they are in the mailbox.:)

Yes, always. Ours are already filled out, but have to mail them still.

We always send thank you note for gifts or party giver. My DD13 just mailed hers out
this morning.

DGD (11) does for all of the gifts she receives from family that live out of town or out of state - as well as gifts she receives from adult friends of mine, her mom's and her grandparents - that she doesn't actually see during the holiday season.. She's been doing this since she was old enough to just barely print her first name.. (Of course someone else had to do the envelopes for her back then or they never would have reached their destinations - LOL..):goodvibes

I also send thank you cards to the people who send me gifts in the mail - not only at Christmas, but year-round "just because"..:)
