Just back from 5 days at DL and had to relate a story that shows just how special Disney can be. I hesitated at first to post this, because someone could misuse the info. But I'm sure such people don't frequent this board (right?) so it should be ok.

My 6 yr old daughter absolutely loves pin trading and runs excitedly up to any CM she sees with a lanyard. Her very favorite character is Ariel, which is hard to find on CM lanyards. But she's persistent, so over the last 2 years she had managed to acquire 5 Ariel pins on her lanyard (along with several others).

While dining at Ariel's Grotto, she left her lanyard in the bathroom. When we returned, not more than a few minutes later, the lanyard was gone. We filed a lost and found report, but it was obviously stolen. Since we were staying at DLH, we called Guest Services, told them what had happened, and asked if they could possibly leave a little treat in the room to cheer our daughter up.

The rest of the day, every time we say a CM with a lanyard, my daughter would just look away - it was so sad. But when we returned to the room, there on the bed was a letter that read "Dear Megan, Ariel heard that you lost your lanyard and feels very bad. We hope this helps cheer you up. From, your Disney pals." With it, was a signed picture of Mickey and Minney, along with a new lanyard with a few new Ariel pins on it. Needless to say, my daughter was ecstatic.

The next day, she wanted to thank Ariel, so we went to see her at DL. While in line, I snuck over to the CM managing the line and told him the story and asked if Ariel could say something about it. Ariel went on break right before it was our turn, and when she returned, she greeted my daughter by name, asked if she was feeling better, and gave her a few little shells (which it just so happens my daughter loves to collect as well). As you can imagine, it was magical.

Unfortunately, we didn't get the CM's name at guest services who supplied the new lanyard. But in case any CM's read this, here's a big thank you for turning a disaster into a delight. And for anyone who asks why it's worth spending more money to stay at one of the Disney hotels, my answer will continue to be "the magic".

And in case you're wondering, "Ariel" has supplied my daughter with most of the stolen pins. There's only one special one left, and it looks like that's still for sale at WDW, so I'm sure that "Ariel" will send that one while we're there later this year.

<font color=navy>What a wonderful story. I teared up at reading it.

Disney knows how to do it right. Thank you for sharing your story with us.

Very glad to hear that it all worked out.

I am so glad your daughter saw the magic of Disney. I am sure it meant alot to you as well!

People ask me why I want to go back to Disney again and again...it is because of the magic.

Disney Dad, I'm a neighbor from San Jose with a great Disneyland story as well.

We go to DL every year for the 4th of July holiday as my daughter's bday in on July 5th. It is a VERY long story, but basically our camera was stolen. Not lost or misplaced - literally stolen off of my shoulder. I didn't even feel it.

I was so terribly upset that the camera was stolen, not because of the camera itself, but because the camera case contained 2 rolls of film: 1 (which was still inside the camera) and the 2nd one was a roll we had used up during her bday celebration at the Plaza Inn earlier in the day with Mickey and Minnie.

The cast members at the attraction where it was taken combed the theater and found the case, completely empty and cut, in the front of the theater. They immediately called "City Hall" and told them what happened and arranged to have a security guard meet me there.

The strange thing is, my daughter was REALLY broken up and upset because she couldn't believe that "people would steal from other people". It had never occured to me that in her short 6 years of life - this was something she had never experienced. She was crying and was visibily frightened. The cast members at City Hall told her they were going to go find Mickey. Sure enough by the time we were finished at the security office, and had filed our police report - a cast member brought my daughter an autographed picture if Mickey as well as a ton of left over goodies from the "Pirates of the Caribbean" movie premiere that had taken place the weekend before.

But that's not the end of the story. The day after we came home, I received a call from Guest Services. The camera had not been recovered, however, a cast member found a lone roll of film near the attraction, and remembered what had happened to me. He took the film (ON HIS OWN TIME) to Costco and had the film developed. Then he brought the film to guest services where they matched my face to the picture on my AP (I was told it took A VERY LONG TIME to go through their system trying to find my face). Once they matched me up, they got my info and called me to tell me they were sending the pictures of my daughter's bday party to me!!!!

They also asked me who were my daughter's favorite characters. They mailed autographed pictures of all her faves to us along with the pics.

To this day I am still amazed at what everyone there did for us.

Sob sob, sniff--that was sooooo sweet. Yep, I knew I loved Disney for a reason, too.

Ok, thanks Jindy for making me all weepy eyed....
God I love Disney!

So wonderful that out of such sadness, joy and magic can be found. This is what we have experienced with our trips to Disney parks. Glad good things came out of your grief!!

This makes me tear up. We went to WDW this year and I am really missing Disneyland. I feel the CM's are so much better trained and ready to make it magical rather then just get you through the attractions. When I voiced this opinion to a CM at WDW he confirmed that California CM's have longer more intense training. He grew up near Disneyland and can see a difference as well. I am trying to find time and money to make an extra Disney trip this year, back to my love ....... Disneyland.

Thanks for sharing your stories. They remind me why I love that place.

I guess it depends which CM's you interact with. We were at DL this past week (our first DL trip) and we found that in general the CM's there just weren't up to par with the ones at WDW.

It's that way even at WDW. Depending on which shift you hit at a certain place, it can be night and day with whatb you get. Hubby has said he hates working a certain shift because of the way those CM's are, but loves working the flip shift because of how wonderful those CM's are....
I'll tell you, DLP had some down right mean CM's

I think the CM's at both DL and WDW are equally great. Never had a problem with either.

Just read this thread for the first time. Those are both great stories. Awesome, amazing... that level of caring & service are the reason we love Disney. (& Nordstroms, he, he...you know they'll take back anything)

I could abolutely picture something like that happenning to DD4, who would be in hysterical tears for hours. (She has left her autograph book in a DL bathroom before...was still there when she returned)

It makes me feel good to go back to DL again and again knowing that people like those CMs work there. ...& no I do not think that all CM will necessarily give 100%, we all have bad days...but I think for the most part they will rise to the occasion.:sunny:

Thank you Disney Dad and jin diesel for your wonderful stories.::yes::
