I went to the dr. today to get some stuff to get rid of my cold sore. I got a prescription for Valtrex and Zovirax. The Valtrex was $190 and the Zovirax was $97.00. My copay was $25 each! :teeth:

what on earth do people do if they don't have health/prescription insurance?

and by the way, did you hear about his scandal? suit against hospitals --- they were inflating the bills for peopel who were uninsured, and not being nice about payment options. these were hospitals who were mandated to accept uninsured patients.

I hear you! Chris' clotting factor usually costs around $3000 per dose.

My ds growth hormone meds cost 3860.00 a month and i pay 30.00 copay, Thank goodness for insurance.

I don't know about RX but I know hospitals really work with people who are uninsured to lower their bills. When we adopted our son, his birthmother was uninsured and had my son via C-section. We had to pay her hospital bills as well as my son's. We phoned the hospital and they were very nice to reduce the bill.

I work at a hospital and can't afford the insurance. :( It is $95 every two weeks just for myself. For family coverage it's around $150 every two weeks.

It used to be the prescription plan was a benefit of being an employee but now it's tied in with the insurance. If you don't have the insurance then you don't have the prescription plan.

It is very scary to go without insurance. I don't get sick very often so right now it is much cheaper just to pay my doctor bills as I go. But I know it will only take one bad thing to happen to put me in debt for a long time.

it's just you, right? $95 per pay period? seems to me $2470 a year for insurance is a bargain. a four day stay in the hospital could cost you $15,000 at today's rates.

you don't want to know what I pay for myself and two children.

monkeyboy, there was a time in my life when I had no co pay at all for prescription drugs!

I had an eye infection, I needed drops. the pharmacist gave me aa bottle of eye drops, i swear the bottle was smaller than my thumb, and told me it was free with my plan but would have cost me $75 without insurance (and that was in 1988 -- the smae thing probably costs double now.)

Scrape together the money and get insurance-- even if it means taking another job. If you get a disease you will be uninsurable.

Honestly, everyday I thank God that I have been blessed with insurance. Yes, most companies are evil to work with, but I would be dead today without them...

Each of my infusions is $6000, and that's every 6 weeks. Not to mention the weekly doc visits and slew of prescriptions i"m on all the time. I complain because we have to meet deductibles and pay copays, but it's nothing in comparison to what they fork out...

I don't know what we would do... Until you get really sick, like I did, you don't realize how important it is to have coverage. PLUS, once you get sick, with a chronic illness, you'll be hardpressed to find a company that'll cover you.
