Thank God For Trip Insurance; Our Merry Land/Sea! (Two new updates October 3)

Great comparison. I loved that you used pictures because I'm such a visual person. The pictures describe a lot about the ship. TFS....

P.S. I'm having doubts about our a Dream cruise except we booked it with a lot of friends and I'm not impressed with the ports. I really don't want to go to Nassua (spelling??). It just isn't that great of a place. But we are going with lots of friends from college so, that should make it fun.

Ok, now I totally want to do a RC cruise. I made my DH look at all the pictures. I love all the stuff they have to do on that ship. Was there a lot of people waiting for the putt putt and the rock climbing wall? Did it feel like there were a lot of people on the cruise?

Can't wait to hear more!

Great report on your RCI cruise. I am shocked to hear how favourably it compares with DCL!

Your pictures surely show how much fun the trip would have been. Too bad your DH wasn't there to share in the fun, but that's great you are booked for the next one already!:goodvibes

I love the new pictures. It looks like it was really fun.
I would love it if you did a TR on it after you are done with the disney one...just add it on here...if you want. But I'm sure all of us would love to hear all about it! :thumbsup2

ITA...would love to hear a TR on your new cruise too! (if you have the time:surfweb:)

I've been lurking for a while now. Just have to say great job reporting on the cruises. We are hoping to take one in the next couple of years. I just keep waiting for airfare to go down since we live in the west but would want to cruise in the Caribbean. Your girls are adorable and your TR is great! We are going with our two girls to WDW for the first time in 3 weeks!

First of all thanks for coming out of lurkdom. I bet you are getting so excited. There is nothing like taking your children to WDW for the first time. Have a magical time.

Glad you guys are back and had a good time. I am really enjoying the comparison since we are trying to choose between a second disney cruise and a royal caribbean cruise. :cool1:. Can't wait to here more.

I was truly surprised just how much we enjoyed RCIs Freedom class ship.:thumbsup2

It looks like you guys had a great time! I'm glad your DH will be able to join you on the next one. My parents took their first RCI cruise this week and absolutely loved it! Thanks for the review :)

Me too, poor hubby and his limited vacation time. I am so glad I chose to be a teacher. Having tons of time off is a huge bonus!

I love the new pictures. It looks like it was really fun.

Glad you're interested. I guess I'll have to see how long it takes me to finish this TR up.:goodvibes

Thank you so much for the review. Looks like such a great experience. I am leaning toward RC instead of Disney. I know I want to do a 7 day cruise and for some reason, when I think of a Disney cruise, I automatically want to combine it with a few days at Disney. Due to our work schedules, we have never been able to take off more than 7/8 days max.

You will not be disappointed with RCI.:goodvibes

Your cruise looks fantastic!!! :worship: You really have the wheels turning in my head now! RC actually sails out of Norfolk, VA which is close enough to us that we could drive and wouldn't have to fly. That would save big bucks and my sanity. I am going to give it some serious consideration. Thank you for posting your pics and your opinions on it. It was very helpful. Can't wait to hear about the rest of your Disney cruise and any upcoming cruises that you are planning!

:lmao: Sounds like you have a good idea. It would be great not to have to fly.

Great report and pics-love 'em! I would love to try a new RCI ship, we sailed the Majesty in 2000, and have not done a 7-day yet.

The newer bigger ships are amazing!

Wow! It sounds like you guys had a fabulous cruise! That ship looks amazing! :thumbsup2

Two thumbs up.:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

What a great review! We sailed on one of RCI's smaller, older ships and were not thrilled. But I would love to try one of the newer ships, because it sounds great!

Yep, after being spoiled on the Freedom Class ship as well as DCL, I will probably not go smaller/older.

What an amazing experience though to sail the Dream it's first year. We decided to keep our 3 day Dream sailing and back it with a 7 night RCI that departs the same day/port we would disembark. If finances fall through we may have to postpone the Disney portion but it's an exciting prospect nontheless.;)

No the upper deck with mini golf and climbing wall and flow rider were almost never crowded. It was the most crowded when we went as we were with everyone else who had not yet experienced rock climbing on the last sea day. The only place where I felt crowded was the Windjammer (their buffet). It can get crazy and at times you have to roam and roam to even get a seat. We learned to deal with it though by finding a seat before getting our food and avoiding it whenever possible. We were big fans of room service for breakfast on port days.:thumbsup2

Just wondering, did I miss the part about the trip insurance?????? :confused3

No, sorry. Our Spring Break trip came in the middle of my TR. It's still coming. My Christmas land/sea vacation still has 2 days at sea followed by a couple on land. The trip insurance part will be coming pretty soon.;)

I'm sure the new Disney Dream will give RCI a run for their money.;)

ITA...would love to hear a TR on your new cruise too! (if you have the time:surfweb:)

Good to know that some of you are interested.:goodvibes

Sounds like you guys had a great spring break! Lots of sunshine!!!:thumbsup2

Too much sunshine!! If there is such a thing.:lmao: I was brushing Faith's hair a couple days ago and had never seen such a thing. Her entire scalp must have burnt (poor thing). It was peeling off in huge chunks that made it look like she had sickly dandruff. Guess I'll have to remember to spray the heck out of their heads next time too.:goodvibes

so awesome!!! no I more than EVER want to take a cruise again!!! Did your kids give a reason as to why they liked the RCL kids club better?
How was the food? Did you do any of the extra charge meals?

Wow it looks like you had a fabulous Spring break! Thanks for doing the comparison. I have cruised with RC before but that was over 10 years ago. I think the newer larger ships look awesome. We are planning on the Disney Dream for 2011 but since it would be only 4-5 nights and lots more $$$ I might have to look into a cruise on RCCL. During next summer Disney dream is doing 2 stops at Castaway cay so those are the 5 night cruises.

Nichole

thanks for the comparison, very informative. We did our first cruise last year on RCL, we absolutely loved it! I agree, the windjammer cafe was the only place that was a little crowded for us. We started getting our table first too. I want to try the Disney cruise line with the DVC points, (hopefully next summer) but the prices are so much higher, if I were paying cash, it would be hard not to go with RCL. It uses tons of points too. I do want to compare them. Our friends that we went on RCL last year just did a Carnival and they had fun but did say the atmosphere was totally different. The party crowd. They also said that they didn't have as much going on, on the Carnival. When we got our daily sheets on RCL, we had trouble deciding what we wanted to do on RCL. We did scavenger hunts, name that tune contests, bingo and enjoyed all the fun contests/activities. We still laugh about being part of the "love train" during the 70's party. I also understand the last day rock climbing. We were on a 5day cruise and never got up there to try it.
Can't wait to hear about the rest of the disney cruise.

You know I think the fact that our RCL cruise was 7 nights may have contributed to them prefering that kids club. They had more time to get to know the staff and do more activities. There also are less kids on RCL which made for less crowded and a more personal experience for the kids.

Too true, there just is too much to do on RCL. Which ship did you sail? You are quite the traveler.:thumbsup2

Alright, back to the original TR. I am sorry for the big gap during the month of March. I know I confused some as I kept getting asked when the need for trip insurance. Well it's coming soon enough. For now, I left off with the DCL TR after our first full day on the ship.

Our Nassau day was my favorite of the cruise and it was a pretty laid back day. There had recently been a lot of news about the increased crime in Nassau. The armed robbery of DCL and RCL passengers occured about a month before we sailed. That helped DH and I decide not to take the girls off the ship in Nassau. We were mainly there for the boat anyway. Our plan for today was to play in the pools and explore the ship then DH and I would get off the ship long enough to do a little exploring just so that we could say we had at least set foot in Nassau.

I woke up pretty early as is usual for me when on vacation. Who can sleep with such excitement around.

I went to deck 9 and grabbed some coffee, had a seat, and watched the sun rise. Early mornings became my favorite as there were not many other people out and about.

I then went walking around. Looks like I explore deck 9, then went to the track on deck 4.

This is also when I found the picture kiosk and took picture of our pictures from the day prior. (on a side note this is one thing DCL does much better Royal Caribbean. RCI does not swipe your card so you are left hunting through thousands and thousands of pictures to find yours.)

The princesses would be making an appearance but my little princesses were fast asleep and had already seen most princesses at WDW.

Loved the Mickey hand elevators.
216-1.jpg

I then checked on the family and they were all still asleep so I decided to go to the gym. Loved It! Sorry, I didn't take any good pictures of the gym. I took one out the window while on the stationary bike. I remember that I had planned to get on a treadmil until I saw someone trip up and almost fall off when the ship rocked slightly. I decided the bike would be safer.;) I loved this! It was so much fun to pedal and look straight out as we approached Nassau. I literally felt like I was pedaling the ship into port. Great memory.
222-1.jpg

Finally I made it back to the family. They were just starting to get up and about.
223-1.jpg

After breakfast we went straight for the pool. It was warm enough to be comfortable in swim suits but it definitely wasn't "lay out" kind of weather. If you were sitting on the chair you would probably be most comfortable wrapped in a towel. When the sun went behind the clouds and the wind blew it was a bit chilly.
226-1.jpg

The girls loved the Mickey slide. They went down over and over and over and over.:lmao:
227-2.jpg

228-2.jpg

The girls got a bit chilly so hopped in the hot tub with me for a while.
229-2.jpg

The girls both wanted to get some braids but did not want the corn row tight braids. These braids were super inexpensive, didn't hurt them, and stayed in past Christmas.
233-2.jpg

While Hope got her hair braided Faith got a picture with Daisy then they switched.

Final result.
237-2.jpg

We returned to our stateroom and our overstuffed fish extender.:cool1:
238-2.jpg

This was so much fun for the girls.
240-2.jpg

We washed up, had lunch at the buffet then the girls headed to the kids club. For the Ratatouli cooking school.

Next up: Finally some alone time for DH and I in Nassau!

OOHHHH! So sorry for the sunburned head. I think that we forget about our scalps when out in the sun. Like the part in your hair? My DH is balding, so I'm always thinking about his head, but my kids and I? Not so much.
So I don't remember if I asked you about the fish finder thing? What exactly is that and did you do it or does the crew do it?
Hope you had a nice Easter!

I think that robbery thing occured when we were on Nassau a few weeks before you. I didn't know anything about it until we got back. We popped into Nassau to get our rum cakes and 3/$9.99 t shirts. I think when we go on the Dream in 2011 I am going to surprise my oldest and my DH with the dolphin encounter on Nassau. Last time we also left our kids in their programs and went on Nassau to Atlantis just my DH and I. I have never felt unsafe just sick of being asked to buy something every few feet!
My favorite thing someone said to me was "Would you like to ride this bike? It's air conditioned! LOL!"
Have a Happy Easter!

Great TR! Love the pictures. We are thinking about going back to WDW in early December next year, so the pics of all the holiday decor and activities make me that much more excited! :)

We cruised the Monarch of the Seas, it's one of their smaller ships, but seemed huge to us and took us days to find our way around. I'd love to try the new huge ones. But for our first cruise it was still wonderful! A great experience.
Can't wait to hear what you thought about Nassau. We went out and did a cab tour of the island. Just got a cab once we got off the ship. There were 2 other couples from our ship that did the tour with us. It was very interesting, he stopped a few places to let us take pics and explore. He took us over the whole island and toured Atlantis. I think it was $30.00 a piece. I'm forking over the $ to do the waterpark at Atlantis if we go back. Then we went back on ship for lunch, and back out by the pier in to the straw market and Senior Frogs. The only thing there I'd like to do again is Atlantis.
I like that they do the hair braiding on the ship. I think I'd work out more if I could do it with that view...:rotfl2:

Great trip report! Love all the pictures! Your girls are adorable.

We loved the Freedom and Liberty. Mostly because I have older teen boys. That pic of your daughter going into the "donut", the lazy river circle brought back many memories. My DD loved the H20 zone, the teens loved the flowrider and I loved the deck space.

Loved all the outfits :)

Great updates!

I loved the comparisons between the two cruise lines! It looked like you had a blast on your last cruise!!

I love early morning at the Disney Resorts as well. It is a nice change of pace from the loud and busy day. I think it was a good choice to stick to a bike!

Your girl's braids came out great! I love how you got a pic with Daisy! I just wrote about how hard it is to get one with her in the parks! Her shoes are to die for. Can't wait to hear about your Nassau day!
