TGM says dont do it... but

I don't think you are supposed to post anything that TGM has to say. Good luck with your planning!

What is TGM?

Also, I must be having a brain misfire, cuz I can't think of what restaurant CM stands for?

I'm lost. Why can't you post anything TGM has to say since it is an official DIS board sponsor:confused3

Because his info is available only through a paid subscription.

Well, I didn't do it last year, but I did the year before. I usually go every other year for the fourth of July--it is an AP thing! Anyway, two summers ago at MK it wasn't so very bad. We got there at opening so the crowds then were manageable--though I think they did the opening ceremony a bit early like maybe 10 minutes to move people from the holding pen since there were still a good number lined up outside the turnstiles. We were able to get in a good number of rides before 11am and the park was manageable. I scheduled and ADR for a sit down meal out of the crowds and out of the midday heat. Once we stopped for lunch though and returned to the parks it was elbow to elbow pretty much. We had a bit of a plan though so it really wasn't any disappointment to us. What we did was the "off the beaten path" stuff for the rest of the day. A few fast passes and the leisurely shopping at MK that we rarely do, as well as the less popular shows. It was great to be out of the heat and crowds during the afternoon. Early evening we had hotdogs at Caseys around the dinner crowds to avoid lines and secure seating. The same thing with ice cream from the ice cream parlor a bit after that. we stake out a great spot in the middle of Main Street not too close to the castle, and with a good panaroamic view since from experience the fireworks are all around the MK and MK resorts on that night. Once the fireworks have subsided I usually linger for a while to avoid the massive crowds exiting. If you have a plan and have expectations of insane crowd levels you will be fine. Once we did MGM similiarly the crowds there didn't really pick up until after 4. Then it got insanely packed. MGM does Sorcery in the Sky Fireworks only on July fourth so it was nice to see.
This is our July 4th at MK year again and this is the strategy I have planned for it.

Also to answer your other question--if you exit you are not guaranteed to get back into MK. If you are staying on site they guarantee you will get into a park, but not necessarily the park of your choosing. It is common for the MK to close to off site and on site park goers on July 4th, so you should be prepared that you might not get back into MK.

Tour Guide Mike's information is for people who pay to subscribe to his website. That information is not to be posted on a public forum.

OP, you might want to ask your question on TGM's forums instead of asking it here since you are using information from his site in your question. I know his site is down right now, but hopefully it'll be up again soon.

I believe the policy is, resort guests are guaranteed park admission to a park, not necessarily all parks will be available. From what I understand, plan on hitting MK in the morning, waiting in endless lines for rides & food & wading through the park shoulder to shoulder. It's my understanding that MK usually is full-up by noon @ the latest on the 4th.

I believe I've read they run the 4th fireworks for several days before the 4th, but I don't know if that's just something from last year or if it's routine.

Mike looketh down from on high.
A glint in his eyes.
And suddenly there was with the Mike a flurry of angels.
He speaketh and there was trembling in the Kingdom.
Why hath thou spoken the hidden truths of the website?
And then the day that was so GREEN turned black.
And lo, the people of the Mike were sore afraid.
The miracles Mike wrought began to tumble.
The crowds rushed in and the queues began to fill.
Darkness fell upon the multitudes and Mike looked down no more.
All because a mere mortal dared speak of the hidden truths of the Tour Guide.

I'm lost also. The few tips that have leaked out aren't huge secrets.:confused3

OP, if your family really wants to spend the day and evening in the MK, why not change your CM ADR to Crystal Palace?

If you get to the parks when they open and use fastpass often, you should be able to stay ahead of the crowds.

Enjoy your trip.:wizard:

Resort guests are guaranteed admittance to "a" "theme park", not necessarily the one of their choice.

TGM, UG, Econoguide, Steve Birnbaum, etc. give you plans to optimize the use of your time, not necessarily the delights to your eyes.

Did 7/4 many years ago - before kids.

The fireworks were AMAZING! Felt incredibly patriotic.

That said, I think you definately have to go in with the right mindset. Be prepared to move like cattle.

FWIW, I don't hink it's any huge secret that you might want to avoid MK on 7/4 due to crowds.

OP, I hope you don't feel bad about posting your question. You didn't say anything that most of us didn't already know.:thumbsup2

Well, I guess that's the DIS for ya. Some of us use our skills for helpfulness, some use them to pen soliloquies. :rotfl:

Me? Personally, I love a great Haiku, it's the iambic pentameter I could live without. ;)

Oh, I think I've done a modicum of both, eh, Ms. Housewife?
