Texting While Driving PSA

Gee, I know a parent who let their dd text while driving after failing her driving test.

Yup. Girl failed her driving test. Girl and mom get in car to drive back home. Girl is driving. Witnesses say she was driving like a maniac even before she started texting. While driving home, girl is texting her friends telling them how she failed the test. Mother is sitting right there, doesn't think it's a problem.

Conclusion: Idiocy is hereditary.

I might have nightmares! All highschool kids and new drivers should be forced to watch this.

I remember seeing gruesome films/slideshows of real accident victims when I was taking driver's ed in H/S. Of course then it was about speeding and DUI.

Didn't really phase us because teens always think they're bullet-proof.

We have a state law that is supposed to help this, but there are still plenty that text and drive. At least they can have their license revoked if caught, but it doesn't matter if you have a license or not if you are dead.

Wow, that was powerful. If my daughter was a little older she'd definitely be watching this. I only hope that things like this are around in a couple of years when she's getting ready to drive.

Thank you for sharing this with us.

This should have been completed showing like a news headline "teen charged with such and such number of deaths sentenced to life in prison" or something - KWIM?

Good PSA.

On that note - I have seen people scrolling through their iPods and not paying attention, either. I think this might be right up there with it.

I agree on the IPod thing. I listen to my IPod while I drive, but it goes on shuffle. Once I move from the parking spot, I don't touch it until I reach my destination.

Thanks for sharing. I watched it twice, b/c I didn't see some of the things that the YouTube posters were talking about.

I don't text and drive (heck, I'm too old and don't text well at all). But I think you could substitute almost anything that would distract you (putting on makeup, typing a phone number) for this PSA.

I posted it as a link on my FB to share with family and friends...

Wow, that was intense!

Very intense.

Unfortunately I expect that most teens will see it as a "production" and not something that really happens.

I have been guilty in the past of texting while driving, but with my new phone I don't feel comfortable continuing to do it. They've actually started passing no texting laws in my state. Now if you are a texting driver and really want to scare yourself, you need to see the don't text and drive forward email. It is 100x more graphic than this. I couldn't fall asleep at night and had nightmares for a week.

thats exactly what I was thinking. It's not REAL, therefore it's not something that could really happen to them.

This report was shown this evening on Philadelphia local news...

Wow. If only people would realize that their actions can have life altering ramifications to themselves and others. No one sets out to hurt someone by using their cell phone or IPod, but it can and does happen way too often. It is time that people figure out that these things can wait until they are out of their cars. Many of us lived most of our lives with out phones and IPods. We survived just fine. It can be done.

So sad, but it is too late for our church family.

We had our own tragedy 2 months ago. A young teen was texting (the kind of kid that is usually responsible and does the right thing) when he ran a stop-sign near our church. He hit a minivan carrying the one of our church's preschool teachers and her 3 children. The impact was so hard, both vehicles became air-born and the minivan was thrown into another church member's house. The van caught fire and the teacher died within 2 days. Her children are physically OK but were very bloody at the accident scene. The house burned to the ground. The teacher's widow is a popular middle school teacher and high school baseball coach.

Our church is in a very rural area and the accident was less then a mile away. God provided that there were other people (also from our church) driving by that saw the accident and had to pull the teacher & her children from the burning van. They saved the children's lives. One of the passersby was a teacher of one of the children. The teen was also hurt but he will carry the scars of his mistake for the rest of his life. Until the house was torn down, church members drove 5 miles out of their way to avoid going past the charred remains.

So, a family has lost a wife & mother, a beloved teacher is gone, an elderly family has to rebuild their house, several people have nightmares from trying to save her life & helping the injured children, and a young teen's life is changed forever.

Still...... I see teens texting in their cars leaving school every day, even as they drive past the accident site.

My niece (a year younger than me) texts and drives all the time. I sent this video to her.
