Texting over wifi in MK

For just texitng, i'd also recommend hangouts. As another poster said, most people already have a google account so installing hangouts makes sense. its very reliable too.

i've used Tango. Its good, but not so much for texting...its better for video chats and voice calls. Texting with it is a bit delayed. I think facebook messenger, and WhatsApp are more reliable for texting. I'd probably go with hangouts or facebook messenger.

I too recommend Google hangouts. I use it regularly at home anyway, but we've used it to text, call, and video chat from the parks on wifi.

On almost all cell phones you can turn off data and cellular. Easy way is putting the phone in Airplane mode and just turning wifi back on manually or you can go into the settings and turn them off. That is the only way to really prevent surprises. It is what i do on cruises or out of the US. My phone never came off airplane mode when we visited Canada.

Yes, this is also an option and also a good way to save on battery life. I buy the out of country data plan because I like knowing I have continuous service, even if I hit a wifi dead zone and it came in really handy the year I stayed at CBR and the wifi signal was really weak. It's minimal costs (I pay about $35 for the duration of the trip).

When I was at AoA 3 weeks ago, the cellphone reception was bad. I tried to call out and didn't have service. It popped up on my cellphone asking if I wanted to call via wifi. I said yes, it went through a setup and I then could call out using at&t wifi. I was at my aunts this weekend, she lives in a rural area and noticed it said at&t wifi instead of bars (well, circles).
