Texting in theater

That's so stupid. Why is texting going to bother someone? Put the phone on silent so there aren't any beeps, what's the big deal?

That's what I can't figure out! This has been a huge story on Facebook today (I have a lot of entertainment sites on my feed) and I just don't get it :confused3

Obviously, talking on your cell phone is annoying. But I can't for the life of me figure out why texting is bad. It's not like you're gonna cause an accident

Oh, I guess I don't text enough, I didn't think of the light being annoying.

You really don't see that your brightly lit phone can be seen by everyone around you in a darkened theatre? It is SO annoying to be distracted from the movie. What I don't get is why your text conversation can't be taken out of the theatre, or better yet, carried on AFTER the movie.

Seriously? It's annoying and distracting and rude, that's what the big deal is.

The last movie I went to (probably a couple of years ago now) at the theater there were only two other people in there besides myself. I was near the back, a guy by himself was near the front, and the girl was in front of me a few rows down and to my right. She texted the entire time. Not just for a minute or two. The entire movie. If I was a confrontational person I would have asked her why she bothered coming to the movie. :confused3 I tried to ignore it, but the light was distracting.

People texting, talking on their cell phones, and talking to each other are the main reasons I no longer go to the theater to see a movie. I don't care to pay for the ticket and high priced popcorn and then have to put up with rude people too.

I prefer to wait until they come out on Netflix and watch at home.

Simmer down granma, we've already addressed that. :rotfl:

Sorry, I mean I don't text enough in general to see the screen being so bright, I don't text in the movies, if I get a buzz in my pocket I go out to the hall. It has never occurred to me to text in the movies, I'm paying good money to see that movie. If someone is calling it had BETTER be a good reason. Since the kids are usually with me, there really isn't anyone I need to hear from during the movie.;)

Wow, unless you are friendly with this poster, how terribly rude of you.

I think people with lit cell phone screens in a theatre should be escorted out. Or, they can reimburse me for my ticket.

Luckily, our movie theatres frown on this and send in employees at random times to check. I hate having to get up and find an employee and I really hate having to speak up. But, I will and have done both. And I'm not afraid of confrontation in this situation.

I love how the girl first says she was just using her phone to find her seat. Then she goes on about how she can text in all the other theaters. Wait! I thought you weren't texting? :lmao:

Add me to the list of those who are annoyed by people texting in a theater.

Why is that rude? Her name is MIGranma? It was funny to me because she's yelling at me and I already read (several times :)) why people thought it was rude.:confused3

There were plenty of other seats. I would have moved to the other side and down a row or two in front of her so I did not see the light.

Was that the only seat you would sit in to watch a movie?:confused3

Try as I might you never take my call when you go to the theater.;)

Out threater posts a not talking and no posting ad before the movie. They tell us too silence our phones too. Only once did I see a person texting (go to the movie about 10 times a year) and that person was doing it in a crowded theater and it ended quickly. The person was on the other end of our row. I don't know who told the person to stop.

"Simmer down," in reference to anyone you don't know, is rude.

Chillax. Call me, let's discuss, I'm at the movies. :cutie: We'll meet for drinks and by 9PM I'll have you telling complete strangers to simmer down. I'll teach ya how to go bad.:woohoo:

I WISH I had an Alamo Drafthouse near me. I'd patronize them just because of their stance on this issue. The pSA is hilarious and that girl is a total moron.

How long till she realizes she is in that PSA and tries to sue?

Add me to the list of people who always notices the little light up screens whenever I'm in a theatre. Do I let it bother me? Not necessarily, but yes, it is distracting.

I don't text in the theatre, although admittedly I did check one time because I was getting many in a row and I couldn't figure out was going on. I opened it underneath my sweater to avoid light and good thing I did because it was an emergency.

We have an Alamo Drafthouse right down the street, how exciting.

I didn't see the other responses so didn't know so many had already commented on that, sorry. :guilty:

I wasn't yelling at you, Fred.

NOW I'M YELLING AT YOU, FRED!! ;)

LOL...go right ahead Granma! It's okay, I post before I finish reading sometimes too. It helps me from letting it get lost in my head.;) If I offended you with said "simmer down" I apologize. :flower3:

According to the article, the former governor of Texas was upset that she hadn't been asked to do one of their PSAs as she was a frequent customer, so they had her make one. Guess it wasn't uncommon for the PSA to play only to have her show up in a seat as the movie began.

The light distracts people....those texting should be removed without refunds (like they used to do to those who talk through the movies)

Hmm..I just read the article and that is what they did, good for them! I wish more companies would take a stand like this.

I've driven through Austin and when I did I made sure to go to the Alamo Drafthouse. It's a fantastic movie theater and I fully support the no talking /texting etc... policy!

I really wish all movie theaters would enforce these rules.
