Most seniors I know have those Jitterbug cellphones, the ones with huge number buttons, that only make calls, no texting, no internet, no camera.

My dad is 70 and has discovered texting in this past year - he texts back and forth with my niece and nephew all the time (15 & 10)

I'm going to pass this on to him - he'll get a kick out of it! :thumbsup2

Hey, I resemble that! Seriously, I text all the time with DDs, but not often enough with DGD that she recognizes my cell phone number. I once sent her a text that said "I'm so proud of all you've accomplished and I love you so much!" She texted back "Thank you so much! Ummm...who is this?"

Recently had a phone conversation with my dad while he was in the hospital. Part of it went something like this:

Dad: All the doctors and nurses are running around with those raspberry things.

Me: You mean Blackberries?

Dad: Yeah, whatever. Those things.

:lmao: My dad is awesome. :)

My stepdad just refers to them as those berry things when he (rarely to never) discusses cell phones. He once called one a blueberry and was somewhat embarassed when we laughed. My mom calls my iPhone an I Phone. It is two words for her. OTOH, she texts with letters as words, all lower case, and no punctuation "r u guys ready yet" which drives *ME* crazy.

A friend got an i-Pad, her mom keeps calling it an "i-wod"

My grandparents think my iPhone is the best thing ever. They tell friends and family about all the things I can do on my phone. :) However, they both own plain phones and do not text, nor have any desire to do so.

I guess I might be considered a senior citizen. I do have a cell phone, but it makes a pretty decent paperweight on my desk and as long as I don't turn it on the battery stays up for months. Verizon Wireless keeps telling me I'm eligible for an upgrade, but my non-trendy model looks as new as when I got it about three years ago. I do get two text messages each month, both from Verizon Wireless. One tells me my bill is available for viewing and the other one thanks me for paying the bill. Why would I want to upgrade from such a polite phone? I had my phone with me when we went to the Verizon Wireless store for her to upgrade to a new phone. The lady reminded me I was eligible to upgrade so I showed her my phone. She said she had never seen one in such good condition. I have no idea how to text and no desire to learn. About the only one who even calls me is my wife, and that's usually while I'm driving or otherwise can't get to it. A call from her is usually to tell me to pick something up on the way home... and usually after I'm already past that store. My phone can take pictures and movies, but I've never taken any in three years so why ruin a perfect record? One thing I do like about my phone is that it tells me the day, date and time, which is pretty handy for an old guy who may not remember those things very well...

I'm going to send this to my parents-they'll love it!

That being said, my 74 year old dad is more technologically savvy than many people of the older generation. He loves Ebay, email, web surfing, and copy/pasting. He works with a computer program at his business that I couldn'
t begin to understand too.

Texting drives nuts. Something that would be a 15 second phone conversation turns into a 5 minute texting ordeal.
