Hi all, I think we may be moving to Texas!!! I am going down for a week or two to scout out the following cities, all of which I have found possible employment. I am going to try to set up an appointment at each hospital to chat with HR and try to talk to employees to see what they think, but want to get a feel for each area.

I realize this trip is going to be a lot of road tripping! I want to spend a few days in each area, trying to keep it budget.

Austin, San Antonio, Houston, and Tyler Texas can anyone tell me what to go see in any of these places while I am there for a few days?

Can you recommend a safe/comfortable affordable hotel in any of these areas?

Anything you want to tell me about any of these places?

They are all nice places. I live in Katy, which is in the Houston area. My brother is in Round Rock, that is near Austin. What kind of things do you want to see? Musems, art galleries, the River Walk, we have it all. You are going to be driving a lot. How long do you plan on staying in each area?

I am heading to work. I hope you get lots of answers, but if not I will try to help you tonight when I get home.

San Antonio is lovely any time of the year!
Are you applying to the new Westover Hills hospital? That is fabulous and right next to SeaWorld.

Any hotel near SeaWorld or Six Flags is affordable. Hotels.com has very good rates.

You do not say when you are traveling but in April here in SA hotels rooms are at a premium. This is due to Fiesta which is just like Mardi Gras over a span of the last 2 weeks of April.

A hotel I simply love and is near the airport and center of SA is the Holiday Inn Select Airport. I do business there quite a lot and fees are so reasonable.

Places to visit I would recommend for eating is a must at Rudy's Barbecue in Leon Springs. Near that is the Rim and La Cantera for top notch shopping or sight seeing.

Of course the Famous Riverwalk is a must. Take a river cruise for only $10. You will get some historical facts and see some great sights while on the river. A great hotel to stay at while downtown SA is the historical Crockett Hotel and it is directly across the River Center Mall and next to the Alamo.

Have fun on your travels!

I live in San Antonio. Some places you could visit are the Alamo, the Riverwalk, also a place I like to go is San Antonio Shoe Factory (SAS). Besides having shoes they have cokes for 10cents, popcorn for 5 cents, peanuts for a 50 cents and even icecream.

I love my state and all the cities you mentioned are great (well, Tyler is "eh"). But.... there is no other city in Texas like Austin. It has it all. It started off as a college town that just happened to have state government and a really quirky creative community. High tech moved in, in the 80's and 90's, and changed the face of our fair city. But, our heart still remains. If you pm me with the hospital you'll be visiting, I can give you hotel, dining and sightseeing recommendations in that area.

Thank you so much! Keep it coming! Being that we are from Massachusetts my DF thinks we would be best suited for Austin. lol. Younger and more progressive perhaps?

Oh and I am planning to visit in June! I am so excited! I am going to rent a car and spend 2 or 3 days in each place. It is so hard to get a feel for it in such a short time but I am probably going to end up wherever I get the best job offer.

Former Texan. I LOVED living in San Antonio! It is by far the best place we have lived. We've lived in a lot of places.

I'd go back to San Antonio in a heartbeat. I'd also go to Austin.

Houston is REALLY big. I have friends there who like it though.

We've been trying to get back to Texas since we left (we're going to Denver next.)
