Last Month's DIS Newsletter had an article about Texas de Brazil in Orlando as reviewed by one of the staff writers - here's the article:
Is It Worth The Drive?
Each month I'll be telling you about something that shows another side of the Orlando / Central Florida experience. (Believe it or not, there are actually places beyond the Disney property line.) Some of these places will be minutes from the Disney area, others will be further away, but at the end of each article, I'll let you know "is it worth the drive".
This month we will be featuring a new restaurant on International Drive. When most of us think of International Drive (or as the locals call it "I Drive") we think about the frenzied tourist corridor running from Sea World at Central Florida Parkway and ending at the Belz Mall Factory Outlets. I Drive is a mix of restaurants, shopping and tourist attractions, but that's another article.
Today we are going to talk about Texas de Brazil, which is located at the beginning of the Belz Outlets area, across from the new Festival Bay Complex. It's easy to find when coming from Disney property.
Texas de Brazil is one in a chain of restaurants. The Orlando location is new, having just opened this year. The concept is that you have been invited to a Brazilian rancher's home and he has spread out a feast. The restaurant is a huge space, decorated in a Mediterranean style with the largest floral displays I have ever seen. But let me tell you more about how this works.
The restaurant offers an enormous salad bar to start. This is not your standard salad bar. This is a room-sized extravaganza with an amazing selection of delicacies. There are salads, side dishes, soups and appetizers. It is a glorious selection. Upon returning from your table, your waiter provides each diner with a small disc. One side of the disc is red and one side green. This is used to signal the gauchos (carving waiters roaming the restaurant) that you are prepared for them to approach your table.
If you show the green side of the disc, the gauchos will begin. Each gaucho brings with him an enormous skewer of meats and a carving knife. This is truly a meat lover's paradise. On the night we were there, they had filet mignon wrapped in bacon, marinated filet mignon, parmesan encrusted pork tenderloin, lamb, sausage, chicken breast, roast beef - these are the things I remember. There was more, but I can't think of all of it.
I am a BIG eater and I found myself frequently turning the disc to red. The amount and selection can be mind boggling. In addition to the salad and meats, you are also served mashed potatoes and a palate cleanser of sautéed bananas and cinnamon. (don't make a face..it's really good).
The restaurant offers all the other expected items. There is a full bar, al a carte items that can be added to this feast and a full dessert menu, but the focus here is on the main course.
A trip to Texas de Brazil is not a cheap night out. Dinner for adults is $38.50 per person. Children 7-12 are half price and kids 6 and under eat free. The restaurant has a casual atmosphere but, asks that there be no 'athletic wear'. I'm not sure what that means but you'll be comfortable in nice resort wear. The address is 5259 International Drive and the phone number is (407)-355-0355.
This is an amazing place in a city built on offering amazing experiences. It's expensive, but it's your vacation. In my opinion, Texas de Brazil is most definitely worth the drive.
