Texas and dictatorship

At my DD13 last doctors visit we asked about this and they said it was too soon to consider it. Instead he advised us to wait a year and see what happens. I was shocked to hear that our state is pushing to make it mandatory for all middle school girls by Sept 07! I don't have a problem with it becoming one of the mandatory vaccines but it does seem a little soon.

I don't think any vaccine should be mandatory!! I believe the concept of vaccination, when first started, was a good one. Now seeing all the reports about vaccine injuries and relatives with injuries from vaccines , I think the vaccine program needs to be reworked. First, not everyone can handle the medium in which vaccines are delivered(mercury, wheat, or yeast based). Next, people with a family history of auto immune diseases should not receive the vaccine for fear an auto immune disease could initiate. I personally think a lot of research is needed when it comes to the vaccine program. I also think in the future, that vaccines will need to be personalized to each individulized person and their genetic make up.

The above is my own opinion.

Anyone considering this can go to their pharmacy and ask for the "insert". Not the one they give you..the physicians one, the one the pharmacist throws out! That will be confusing and may even be unduly scary but will list the possible side effects not listed in the patient literature!

Then decide whether you need to do it now or can you wait.

This is a good point. Another thing not considered is how these viruses (dead or alive) which are injected into our bloodstream are interacting with the thousands of other toxins (pesticides and heavy metals) in our food and water supply.

I have heard of a theory that food allergies might be caused by introducing a new food into a child's body about the same time that child receives a vaccination. The body gets confused about what the actual "virus" is, and makes a "note" to have a reaction whenever that food substance is ingested.

This is typical Texas politics. Perry is actually going against his base here to adopt this regulation. Gov Goodhair's base is the religious right who supported him in the last election and that base is against this vaccine because it may encourage pre-maritial sex. Here Gov. Goodhair went against the wishes of his base in order to appease one of his financial backers.

There is or was a bill proposed in the legis to do the same thing but the religious right had come out against the bill and so Gov. Goodhair had to use the adminitrative order mechanism to pay his financial backers.

I think the vaccine is a wonderful idea...wish they had it when I was younger. HPV comes in many different strands and is not just from having sex...you can be a virgin and still be diagnosed with HPV. My sister is an ER nurse and has had a couple of cases of this...its similar to the herpes virus it lies dormant in your body and stress can set it off. Almost 90% or more of women have active forms of HPV it just depends on whether your body is strong enough to fight it off or whether you have a cancerous strand of it. Once it becomes active it never truely goes away and you live with the thought that you could pass this onto your child, huesband, etc. Men may never know they have HPV marry their sweetheart and then give her a cancerous form of HPV that if not caught and treated in time will kill her. Not exactly what I want to occur to my daughter if there is a way in which I could have prevented it.

Merck is bankrolling efforts to pass state laws across the country mandating Gardasil for girls as young as 11 or 12. It doubled its lobbying budget in Texas and has funneled money through Women in Government, an advocacy group made up of female state legislators around the country.

Doesn't that bother you just a bit? The fact the company, MERCK, making this vaccine, is paying to get it to become a "law" that girls get this vaccine?

The fact that this governor has a special interest in this drug company?

The fact this this governor wrote an executive order bypassing the legislative branch to mandate this?

Just step back and do some research before you buy all this hype.
There is an outbreak of chicken pox throughout the country in children who were vaccinated....fortunately this is a rarely fatal disease and IMO should not be forced either. Thank God people can opt out but not enough know that, let's keep telling them!

To answer the first three questions...yes!!!

Here's some interesting data on Chicken Pox:

Death rate of normal healthy children who acquire Chicken Pox 0.0014% (The Vaccine Guide, Neustaedter). Chicken Pox is a MUCH more dangerous disease in adulthood than it is in childhood (especially if acquired while pregnant). The efficacy of the Varicella vaccine is about 90% (1-3% of vaccinated children acquire the disease annually), and the longevity of the immunity is not known. Some experts feel you may only get 6-10 years of immunity from this vaccine, but no clinical trials have been conducted to test this.

Chicken Pox is being given to children NOT to keep them from dying, but to keep them from the "discomfort" of an almost entirely non-fatal disease (in healthy children), but more importantly to keep this country from suffering economic losses in parental income due to the disease, as parents miss .5-1.8 days of work to stay home and care for sick children (Sullivan-Bolyai, J.Z., Yin, E.K.,Cox, P., et al Impact of chicken pox in households of healthy children. Pediatric Infectious Disease Journal 1987; 6:33-35.)

Here's some very interesting quotes from vaccine researchers:

"It's clear that we can reduce the cost of chicken-pox primarily by reducing the loss of parental income." (Brunell, P.A. Chickenpox - examining our options. New England Journal of Medicine 1991; 325:1577-1579.)

Vaccination of the entire population will save an estimated $380 million in lost income and wages. (Preblud, S.R. Varicella: complications and costs. Pediatrics 1986; 78(supp.):728-735.)

"One would not, however, want to vaccinate against varicella routinely in childhood if immunity wanes and thereby produces a population of varicella-susceptible adults...Practically, however, the only means to determine whether waning immunity will be a problem is to vaccinate a large number of healthy children and follow them for many years. Therefore, only post-licensure surveillance of vaccinated children can be utilized to determine if this will be a significant problem. (Gershon, A.A. Live attenuated varicella vaccine. Annals and Reviews of Medicine 1987; 38:41-50)

Merck (the manufacturer) also notes that the Varicella vaccine has not been evaluated for its carcenogenic, or mutagenic potential, or its potential to impair fertility. :confused3

The chicken pox vaccine also contains MSG (monosodium glutamate). According to the Food and Drug Administration, MSG is not advised for use in infants, children, or pregnant women or children of child-bearing age, and people with affective (mental/emotional) disorders. Dr. A. Lavin of the Department of Pediatrics at St. Luke's Medical Center in Cleveland, Ohio, strongly opposes the chicken pox vaccine.

Many who are anti-abortion should also take note that many vaccines are made with cells taken from aborted fetuses.

Imagine is his "religious right" actually knew the origins of such vaccines!!

:scared1:

My daughter's getting it. I wish I could, too. You never know what life will bring you.

The Texas legislation says that girls entering 6th grade(therefore, most likely 11 and 12) in 2008 will be required to get this vaccine. In addition, the state health departments are being required to offer the vaccine to girls 9-18 who do not have private health insurance, or whose insurance doesn't cover the vaccine. Also, Medicaid is being asked to pay for girls 19-21. All of those details were in the report previously quoted. I missed the part about 4th grade orgies.

Most schoolchildren would have insurance to pay for the vaccine. The state of Texas would pick up the cost for the uninsured and the underinsured, at least that's my interpretation.

If you think middle school is too early for anything that deals with sexually transmitted disease, then you are out of touch witht what's happening in today's middle schools.
Unfortunately, the statistics in Texas that I've seen say that most schoolchildren here (well, 40% or so) DON'T have private medical insurance. There's Medicare, the CHIP program, etc-all funded by my taxes. I know this sounds cold to some (had this argument with DH already) but I'm not crazy about my taxes paying for a vaccine so a middle-schooler can have less risky sex.

I've been reading all of this and all I can say is, don't blame me. I voted for Kinky. :duck:

As I stated in the other thread, our DD is getting the first shot of the series next month (age 13), but I don't believe it should be mandated in order to enroll in school.

As for Governor Perry's motives, I think there is perhaps some overreaction here as to why he is doing it. I'm pretty sure that there is legislation pending in MD, VA & DC (the 3 states in our area) that mandate it, and I highly doubt that all of those legislators have ties to Merck.
