Merck is bankrolling efforts to pass state laws across the country mandating Gardasil for girls as young as 11 or 12. It doubled its lobbying budget in Texas and has funneled money through Women in Government, an advocacy group made up of female state legislators around the country.
Doesn't that bother you just a bit? The fact the company, MERCK, making this vaccine, is paying to get it to become a "law" that girls get this vaccine?
The fact that this governor has a special interest in this drug company?
The fact this this governor wrote an executive order bypassing the legislative branch to mandate this?
Just step back and do some research before you buy all this hype.
There is an outbreak of chicken pox throughout the country in children who were vaccinated....fortunately this is a rarely fatal disease and IMO should not be forced either. Thank God people can opt out but not enough know that, let's keep telling them!
To answer the first three questions...yes!!!
Here's some interesting data on Chicken Pox:
Death rate of normal healthy children who acquire Chicken Pox 0.0014% (The Vaccine Guide, Neustaedter). Chicken Pox is a MUCH more dangerous disease in adulthood than it is in childhood (especially if acquired while pregnant). The efficacy of the Varicella vaccine is about 90% (1-3% of vaccinated children acquire the disease annually), and the longevity of the immunity is not known. Some experts feel you may only get 6-10 years of immunity from this vaccine, but no clinical trials have been conducted to test this.
Chicken Pox is being given to children NOT to keep them from dying, but to keep them from the "discomfort" of an almost entirely non-fatal disease (in healthy children), but more importantly to keep this country from suffering economic losses in parental income due to the disease, as parents miss .5-1.8 days of work to stay home and care for sick children (Sullivan-Bolyai, J.Z., Yin, E.K.,Cox, P.,
et al Impact of chicken pox in households of healthy children.
Pediatric Infectious Disease Journal 1987; 6:33-35.)
Here's some very interesting quotes from vaccine researchers:
"It's clear that we can reduce the cost of chicken-pox primarily by reducing the loss of parental income." (Brunell, P.A. Chickenpox - examining our options.
New England Journal of Medicine 1991; 325:1577-1579.)
Vaccination of the entire population will save an estimated $380 million in lost income and wages. (Preblud, S.R. Varicella: complications and costs.
Pediatrics 1986; 78(supp.):728-735.)
"One would not, however, want to vaccinate against varicella routinely in childhood if immunity wanes and thereby produces a population of varicella-susceptible adults...Practically, however, the only means to determine whether waning immunity will be a problem is to vaccinate a large number of healthy children and follow them for many years. Therefore, only post-licensure surveillance of vaccinated children can be utilized to determine if this will be a significant problem. (Gershon, A.A. Live attenuated varicella vaccine.
Annals and Reviews of Medicine 1987; 38:41-50)
Merck (the manufacturer) also notes that the Varicella vaccine has not been evaluated for its carcenogenic, or mutagenic potential, or its potential to impair fertility.
The chicken pox vaccine also contains MSG (monosodium glutamate). According to the Food and Drug Administration, MSG is not advised for use in infants, children, or pregnant women or children of child-bearing age, and people with affective (mental/emotional) disorders. Dr. A. Lavin of the Department of Pediatrics at St. Luke's Medical Center in Cleveland, Ohio, strongly opposes the chicken pox vaccine.
Many who are anti-abortion should also take note that many vaccines are made with cells taken from aborted fetuses.
