Testing refusal rates in your district

Nobody opts out here. Not since they made the testing scores 20% of the grade.

That wouldn't work here- they give the test in April and don't even get the grades back till August/sept! By the time the grades come back they are in a different grade! And even if they get a bad grade you are not allowed to know exactly what their week point was so it's not like they could even get extra help in the area needed.

Just curious, where did you find the numbers? I can't find them online.

It was on our local TV stations website. If you want me to PM you the link I will, but for personal purposes I don't want it in the thread. It may direct you to your district.

Your district gets the results in the same school year? Ours won't be available until next year, so there is no way they can even try to claim the testing impacts their grades.

I've said multiple times that I don't agree if teachers are using kids as pawns. You are awful snarky.

My apologies if I misread your posts. I just felt like every time you said you were against using kids as pawns, I felt a "but" coming.

Once again, I'm sorry if that wasn't the case.

Wow. that long eh? Ours are given in May and back in two weeks with breakdowns of the various areas of each subject.

We don't get results until fall. But I have no idea how long in advance of that the school actually gets them.

Wow. If you're taking em in say April and getting them back in September, that's almost 5 months. Why even bother if it is going to take that long? I could see the lengthy time back in the 70s with tape reels and having to key punch cards. But not now.

Wow. I'm a school counselor in Texas (was a teacher for 9 years) and this all just blows my mind! We are not a Commom Core state so maybe that's why we missed out on all this. We have state testing, but it does not count toward teacher salaries or students grades (though they do have to pass certain tests to be promoted or graduate). I can't imagine dealing with the things I'm reading here.

We don't get them back until late September. Which is why my daughter had to be taken out of a class that she was already enrolled in and moved to an AIS class where she didn't need to be. It doesn't make much sense to get them back the following year, after kids already have their schedules done.

Our PARCC results come the next school year. Our district uses Terra Nova and Star testing with quick results they use same year. Star is taken 3 times a year. Terra Nova once and then PARCC. It is way too many tests, but our school is no pressure, no teaching to the test and we still have very innovative and creative lessons like we pre CC.

My daughter's friend found out she was being sent to an extra math class (for doing poorly on her standardized test) when she saw it on her schedule. At first they just thought it was a mistake. I would not have been happy with that.

And then in a couple of months they decided she didn't need to be there and moved her back to her original class.

My daughter's friend was taken out of social studies class for extra math. Somewhere along the line first semester they moved her back, I suppose when she tested at a certain level.

Parents don't see results of the exams at all here. The only results we see are the WKCE tests. This is their third week of standardized testing this year (one in the Fall, one in the Winter and one in the Spring).

It really is interesting to hear how this all happens in different parts of the country. We get a printout with results, usually at the fall conferences.
