I have Dell desktop too. It's my family's computer, we've had it for... I don't know, 5 years? It still works like the day we bought it and it's been cleaned out completely several times (due to a virus that messed up Norton).
I'm getting a laptop before school because I'm getting tired of sharing.
I'm paying for it (my dad is pitching in some money though, and buying the router).
I'm probably going to feel guilty after buying it because I have a loyalty towards inanimate objects.
This happened when I bought an Ipod and stopped using my mp3, and when I moved into my brothers bedroom.

When you get your laptop i'd advise to not get Norton, it'll just slow your PC up and not be able to remove half of the things it finds. If you want an all-in-one program just get AVG. I personally use Avast! Antivirus with COMODO Firewall Pro but AVG is easier to set up and whatnot. If its a Dell they'll probably pressure you into McAfee or ZoneAlarm (not sure what they use now) and McAfee isn't very good either but its a bit better than Norton. [/geek]

I don't mind McAfee, we used it for a long time after Norton screwed up our computer, and it was fine. But it makes you sign everytime you sign on your Windows user.
It's a pain, but then again, it gives me something to do while I wait for stuff to load.

Norton is a piece of crap, we're only using it right now because my brother got it free with his pc, and we installed it too.

I used to have McAfee on this PC but I thought it was too bulky, now I just use my own collection of a few programs and it works pretty well. All free too (without stealing licences) :)

I honestly don't know nearly as much about this stuff as I make it seem >_>

edit: but yes norton is indeed crap!

I know nothing about computers.
I'm not going to be able to just order of the internet for my laptop, I'm gonna have to go into the store and look at them for hours on end.
I don't have many concerns, the only one was the amount of USB ports, but I guess the norm is usually 4?
Which seems to be enough.

I think my PC has 4 in the back and 2 in the front, i'm not positive but it seems to be enough.
I need a new computer though, this is one like 5 years old.

I have a tablet that I like to keep plugged in all the time.
And I have a tendency to leave my camera plug in.
And my Ipod plug.
I have no idea what else I'd plug in.

Why would you need four USB ports anyway?

Depends what you plan to be using it for I guess :/

Possibly a webcam, usb wireless mouse/keyboard (gross), thumb drive, etc.

Yeah there's two in the front and around 4 in the back. Sometimes there isn't always free room on this one because of my dad's USB cords too.

I think that my computer only has one USB port. It might have two....

Mm.
I hate using the USB ports in the back, most of my cords aren't long ehough.
I would like to plug my tablet in the back, because when I plug my camera one in, I almost unplug it.

Could always buy a USB hub thing, plug it into the back then sit it on top of your PC or wherever.

Mm that's what I was thinking of doing.
I might buy a power bar too, I don't have near enough wall outlets in my room.

My cat likes to venture behind my desk and step on the power switch of my surge protector while i'm in the middle of doing important stuff

Ahaha, I would probably scream if my dog did that.

I hate it when I'm doing important things and my family wants the computer or the computer decides to freeze up.

Back, had to make something to eat.
Yeah, I get mad at her when she does it and chase her out of the room but she does it again and again. I have to share this PC as its our only one until I get mine later this year so its in the living room, its hard to keep my cat away.

I'll go into the kitchen to grab a drink or something and come back and my mom runs into the room and starts checking her email and stuff right when i'm in the middle of something. "My mom had to check her email" isn't a very good excuse for going afk 10 minutes >_>

Ugh, I hate it when my parents just get on the pc and start doing stuff.
My mother has to log into her Windows user because she uses Outlook and it's not on my ID so when she's done I have to log her out...
It takes longer than it should.
And sometimes she'll be on for like 2 hours when I told people I'm talking to, like 10 minutes. When I get back, they're all gone.

34 pages..Only 216 pages to go!

woo

We just have one user on this PC, my dad pretty much never uses the PC and my mom just checks a few things every day. I hate when she goes on classmates though, she has 2 different accounts (one is messed up) and she always gets confused and takes forever.
